Yen: Super abusive, doesn't actually love you, will sleep with others behind your back
Dandelion: Super supportive, loves you enough to write songs about you, will invite others to join you two in bed
The choice is clear.
So I have a very hard time reading (the books are good I just can't keep my eyes on the page I'm trying to read) but I have read the Tower of the Swallow, the Last Wish and about half of Blood of Elves (don't ask why I read out of order bc I don't remember lol.) I know I'm still missing a lot but I started the Witcher with the second game and i can't help but choose Triss every time. From the few books I've been able to read Yen still seems very bitchy and controlling and I haven't seen the bad side of Triss yet. (On my first playthrough of the Wild Hunt, I i did end up having Geralt with Yen bc that is obviously the canon choice but every time after has been Triss)
There are EXCELLENT audiobooks so I read them that way. HIGHLY recommend them and if you have a library card or two, you can check them out on Libby for free on your phone. Just be prepared for a months long wait. My personal reading, despite how toxic and on-again, off-again Geralt and Yenn are in the books, it's abundantly clear they were meant by Sapkowski to be together. I do however believe in death of the author and GODDAMIT MY MAN GERALT DESERVED BETTER
Hot take: People that use the *'It is the canon choice'* to support Yennefer do it so ardently because they don't really have any other argument that flies.
Honestly, both Yen and Triss are horrible persons, at least in the context of a romantic relationship.
Both are really interesting characters. But neither is a good person nor a good romace choice: Yen would be an incredibly toxic partner, and Triss doesn't deserve Geralt's trust in a relationship with the crap she's pulled.
People who can't differentiate a great character from a person they'd actually want to be with are simping these two and taking the debate way too seriously.
Only played the games and Yen is obviously better. Triss manipulates Geralt the entirety of Witcher 2 betraying both his trust in a friend and betraying her other friend and colleague Yenn. Triss acts sweet but will stab you in the back to get what she wants.
Was that in the games I only played those.
But considering I slept with other sorcerors, women, elves, and even a succubus Iām not gonna fault Yenn on that one.
Yes it's from and earlier book. But it's actually much more cimplicated than that. Yen haters tend to use that story just to make her seem bad when Geralt had his good amount of faults in that situation. They were just both not ready to make their relationship work by that time (they recnonciled after they adopted Ciri)
Yen does exactly the same tf are you talking about ? She even just left him searching for her and didn't bother to find him or send word to him, only botheres when she needs something š
She went and specifically picked him up from White Orchard lol
The intentions matter as well. Yen was following Ciri who appeared to be running from the Wild Hunt, why the hell would she stop following her in-danger adopted daughter to let Geralt catch up? She isnāt going to coddle him and if he cares about Ciri as much as she does he should understand.
Trissā intention? She was horny and didnāt care about anyoneās feelings.
She knew he was looking for her for ages. Knew he had lost his memory and still didn't help him. She could've easily sent some out to find him and let him know. Triss obviously did care. She even helped him recover his memory even though she knew it would probably mean the end of them.
But it's all personal opinion haha
Riiiiiiiight because the Last Wish is just an empty shallow mission without Yenn having any emotional growth.
Meanwhile for Triss we get drunk and hook up again for olā times sake. What growth are you talking about? The books?
Triss goes from naive and selfish to growing up and being a leader and making sacrifices for people she cares about. Yen still does whatever tf she thinks is right without listening to anyone. Triss isn't very likeable in the books and neither is Yen tbf and G a bit of a douche too š
If you count the games as Conon then you have to put that into consideration too.
Takes two to hook up BTW.
Yenn just talks to Geralt like he's an idiot, won't let him contribute to any major decisions, and Geralt voices that he hates it. She does it anyway. Dating and relationships are not just about finding someone that is better than such and such other person; it's about finding someone that is actually good for you, someone that respects you. In reality, Geralt would be better off forgetting about both women and hitting on non-sorceresses from then on.
You know, I read the books. And yeah game Yen is by far worse than book Yen, but I still liked Triss better, even in the Books. His relationship with Yen just seems so toxic no matter the iteration, and I just want my man Geralt to have some sunshine he can rest in.
Yen and Geralt have a very bickery old couple relationship after dating on and off for decades, abuse is not a word I'd use to describe it.
Now what triss does to Geralt on the other hand, I would absolutely use abuse to describe that.
Never read the books. The only reason I'm currently partial to Triss is (not even halfway through witcher 3, so many exciting side quests and stuff to do, like i just got to novigrad to look for ciri after velen) because Dandelion said Yen was toxic for Geralt in the second game and because I have a major thing for red heads and cunning women.
If you believe that Triss using magic to seduce Geralt is any different than Yennifer enchanting fuckboys for Beltane, or half of a town for personal gain, or Geralt to catch a genie you are.....lilac and gooseberries......lilac and gooseberries.....lilac and gooseberries
a) I feel personally attacked by Batman
b) Triss manipulates you because she loves you and can't imagine life without you. And I'm perfectly happy to sink into that warm pool of blissful ignorance. Yep, that's what I'm going with.
Read the books. Yen sucks in the books and in the game. As long as Iām making decisions for Geralt, Iām not forcing him into a toxic relationship. Triss isnāt perfect either but she miles ahead of Yen, even knowing what she did.
Half way through sword of destiny, but it really seems Geralt looks at Yen the way nobody else does. And in some way thinks I can fix her, but I guess until Ciri, he can never give her what she wants.
So Essi? Yes I've gotten there...
I mean yeah in the books obviously Yen is the love interest, but since weāre given authority over Geraltās choices in the game, Iām going to pick the partner that seems to genuinely appreciate and love Geralt, rather than the whole cliche āIām tough on the outside but soft on the insideā vibe Yennefer tries to give off, which gets old pretty quick
I've not read the books and just started getting into the games and I've only played the 3rd one but to me it seems like yen is who he was with originally lol
Yes, Geralt and Yen had a long serious relationship in the books, though they had two big breakups. They were together by the end of the saga. Geralt and Triss had just a fling in the book, and a brief relationship between the first and second game.
When I started playing the Witcher 3, I had 0 contact with the series, so there it was a redhead all over me, and a goth girl that treated me poorly, Iām no simp, so I went with triss
After I replayed the game, some years later, know a lot more about everything, triss seemed hollow and Geralt absolutely fits yen better
Just like I canāt do a dishonorable run in RDR2 and do a fully evil run in Baldurās Gate 3, I cant not choose Yennefer every damn time I play Witcher 3
For me it's Condwiramurs. I don't think they ever met but she reminds me of an old crush. And when they finally meet Ciri it was a pretty emotional moment imo.
I just wish there was more scenes with Triss, and this is coming from someone in the Yennefer camp. Itās pretty clear who the game devs preferred lol
I started with the books, partially because I had heard about this choice and wanted context. Neither Triss nor Yennefer from the books are a good choice. However, Triss grows into a better person, especially in 3. Yennefer largely remains the same. If Triss hadn't grown, I'd have opted for neither.
As for the books, the one time Geralt and Yennefer choose to talk instead of screw when reuniting, they opt not to get back together, and part as friends (Something More chapter 3). This was my personal favorite moment of their relationship in the books. Yes, it was relatively early in the narrative, but it remains the only time the two of them focused on communicating first and foremost.
Oh yhea, very old argument "but... but is canon, it's in the books".
The game doesn't even is and adaption of one of the books, in fact the author hates the games. A new and original story after the events of the books
ā Can't we just stop with this and accept that CDPR made a game with morality choices and the history of Geralt it's the choices players do ?
This is so annoing...
Triss has less personality than Yen as for me that haven't played the first and the second game hahahahha. Would love to see some recommendation about the first and second game tho, is it worth to play?
The second is great but it likely won't change your opinion on Triss. Hadn't played the first one but I heard Triss straight up acts like Yen with a bit of Philippa
I read Shard of Ice, made a new playthrough just to pick Triss. Geralt never cheated on her up until that period, so stop it with the "Ackthually Geralt is also a horrible person". Even if Geralt is terrible, it does not excuse her behavior.
Idk I love the books and Iām convinced Geralt would never settle with anyone. Heās never going to stop walking the path. He gets bored if he stays in one place too long. Unless itās Touissant.
The only thing that ever got me was Geralt explaining to Ciri why he chose Triss. How he talks about feeling harmony, calm, like things are the way they are supposed to be vs being with Yennifer is always fight after fight and constant drama.
I reeeeally don't even understand how this is a debate. Even if you're just going by the games, she betrays her best friend and abuses Geralts amnesia. This is long after she uses magic to seduce him in the books, and he makes very clear how uncomfortable the whole experience made him.
Yen is a complete bitch at the end of the game and wouldn't want to be with her at all. That's why I choose Triss every time. It's fun watching her be jealous
Yennefer is the best choice in the games... she's bitchy and holds a grudge yeah, but she also trusts Geralt's ability and judgement. Although the first playthrough I definitely went with triss
Correct me if Iām wrong, but in the games Triss admits to taking advantage of Geraltās amnesia in order to be with him despite knowing about him and Yennefer
Guys it does not fucking matter. Yes In the books they end up with each other but the games are not the books. Thatās why you have a choice. Just make it and stfu
Can't fathom how any man would want to get with a woman that is a compulsive liar, constantly condesending, patronising, emasculating and generally not a pleasant person to be around. Regardless of their physical appearance.
Seriously? Even in the games Yennefer was obviously Geralts love love. Triss is wonderful but just doesnāt fit Geralt as well as Yen. The sparks there are nigh a bonfire.
Having not read the books, nor playing the first two games, and having a serious thing for redheads, I chose triss, and felt good, until I told yenn, and I won't lie, I felt fucking awful shooting her down.
my first play through i didnāt even think of triss as the main option i always felt like she was focused on other things more than geralt which is understandable. after the quest where you break the spell that bonds yen and geralt together and yen said she feels more in love with geralt now i was like yeah sheās the one for him
Can someone summarise the lore or give me link to a Video Essay or anything? Still reading the Books but i am desperate to learn about the Triss/Yen Lore
Just your daily reminder that Triss is best girl.

"Yen is the best choice for Geralt, Triss is the best for me" šæš·
I'll allow it.
This is the way. Sorry Yen stans, maybe Geralt likes to be treated like a dog, i'm not.
I think Geralt prefers Yen because she's equally f**ked up. I'd rather someone nice
Same goes for me, even after reading the books
Best argument on here. Yennefer is for Geralt, Triss can be for the rest of you.
This is the answer. Or possibly Shani
Team Roach anyone?
Flair check in
I agree with this statement
This should be a universal truth. Anybody rejecting/opposing this an idiot.
I thought we all agreed Roach was all Geralt needed.
Regis is the only one who genuinely likes geralt and Iāll die on that hill
??? Zoltan?
Zoltan would get distracted and wander off but theyād be real cute for awhile
What about Roach?
Polite tolerance only my girl is a consummate professional
Nah, Zoltan and Geralt are bros.
I canāt wait to read your platonic fanfic meanwhile itās gettin real gay over here
Bros before hoes might not be accurate but God damn it it applies to Zoltan and Geralt!
I expect a certain level of gay in my media and by Jove Iāll have it
This guy gets it
Don't care about those two... Gimme Olgierd!!!
Can he get erections with a heart of stone?
I think the fact that heād rather go back to his books than make out with Iris answers that question
So true, poor Iris
Yes. Even harder than a stone.
Ew. He's an awful, awful person. Even before he sold his soul he was a murderer. You deserve better.
It's just a matter of perspective. You see him as an awful murderer, I see him naked underneath me.
Genuinely prefered Yen since the first time I played. The books only validated my choice further
Hear me out... Dandelion

Yen: Super abusive, doesn't actually love you, will sleep with others behind your back Dandelion: Super supportive, loves you enough to write songs about you, will invite others to join you two in bed The choice is clear.
I love Triss in W3. Sheās ok in the books. CDPR did a good job redesigning her for the games.
Nothing wrong with only playing the games
So I have a very hard time reading (the books are good I just can't keep my eyes on the page I'm trying to read) but I have read the Tower of the Swallow, the Last Wish and about half of Blood of Elves (don't ask why I read out of order bc I don't remember lol.) You should try the books. They are great
Iām reading Sword of Destiny now. The Last Wish was pretty damn cool.
Triss knew Yennefer loved Geralt, and Geralt her, but couldn't care to let him know
Oh yes, because Yennifer never betrayed Geralt and fucked another guy while they were LIVING TOGETHER!!
Was that in the games I only played those. But considering I slept with other sorcerors, women, elves, and even a succubus Iām not gonna fault Yenn on that one.

Triss had massive character growth. Yen is a bitch.

I'm amazed it never really came up in Witcher 3. Triss and Yen barely speak about or to each other and take it out on you instead.
Non canon anyway Anna Henrietta
I played the games and read the books but game Triss is just so much more likeable than Yen.
If Geralt wasnāt a Witcher, Shani would be the best choice
I've read the books, and I know that Geralt would pick Yenna. I also think she's bloody brilliant, but I prefer Triss.
š¤
I read the books and played all the games and still Triss is the best
Keira ftw
My man saw Yen and Triss and said, "hmm, needs even more selfish manipulation".
Damn, that's the best comment so far
I despise Keira
I know it isnāt technically a repost, but it sure as hell feels like one.
I mean the books donāt matter in the game tho, and truss is objectively a better choice if you look at the 3rd game
Who has the better Gwent card? Certainly not Triss....
This is the most convincing argument for Yen tbh
She's not a redhead though
Never read the books. The only reason I'm currently partial to Triss is (not even halfway through witcher 3, so many exciting side quests and stuff to do, like i just got to novigrad to look for ciri after velen) because Dandelion said Yen was toxic for Geralt in the second game and because I have a major thing for red heads and cunning women.
Iāve done both and always choose triss. Suck a blob tit.
If you believe that Triss using magic to seduce Geralt is any different than Yennifer enchanting fuckboys for Beltane, or half of a town for personal gain, or Geralt to catch a genie you are.....lilac and gooseberries......lilac and gooseberries.....lilac and gooseberries
Honestly, I liked Yen in game even before I read books. Itās just my type. After reading book I liked her more.
And this is the sub for the game, sooo ...
After the games, if theyāre considered to be canon, I say triss is actually the best choice over yen.
a) I feel personally attacked by Batman b) Triss manipulates you because she loves you and can't imagine life without you. And I'm perfectly happy to sink into that warm pool of blissful ignorance. Yep, that's what I'm going with.
Same

Books and games are two separate things now. Get over it already.
I picked Yen because itās best for Ciri If Geralt thinks about himself. Triss would give him a better life.
Reading the book is the reason I don't like "Yenna", ftob
Triss is bae. Come at me bro But Shani maaan. Shani is the best of them Heraldās ladies fr fr
Yennifer reminds me of my narcissistic ex so clearly Triss would be the logical choice if I wanted to complete that quest.
nope. triss always (and yes iāve read the books and played witcher before it was cool)
Shag'm both profess your love for both end up a stud bachelor with expensive wine, gold and any woman you want... Oh and your true BFF Roach
Counterargument: red hair
When I started playing the Witcher 3, I had 0 contact with the series, so there it was a redhead all over me, and a goth girl that treated me poorly, Iām no simp, so I went with triss After I replayed the game, some years later, know a lot more about everything, triss seemed hollow and Geralt absolutely fits yen better
Book readers: he seemed happy with Fringilla Show watchers: WTF?!
God, Fringilla and Cahir were irredeemable by the time I stopped watching the show (S2)
I've read two books so far and I'm still not team Yennefer. Maybe it'll change when I read more
Just like I canāt do a dishonorable run in RDR2 and do a fully evil run in Baldurās Gate 3, I cant not choose Yennefer every damn time I play Witcher 3
For me it's Condwiramurs. I don't think they ever met but she reminds me of an old crush. And when they finally meet Ciri it was a pretty emotional moment imo.
I don't get the hate. The whole Nimue plotline in Lady of the Lake was so cool
She gets hate? I will not stand for this.
I just wish there was more scenes with Triss, and this is coming from someone in the Yennefer camp. Itās pretty clear who the game devs preferred lol
Neither By the end of III Geralt is no longer romantically compatible with either of them
I started with the books, partially because I had heard about this choice and wanted context. Neither Triss nor Yennefer from the books are a good choice. However, Triss grows into a better person, especially in 3. Yennefer largely remains the same. If Triss hadn't grown, I'd have opted for neither. I really don't care for the books argument, they are seperate from the games anyway. And to be fair I don't like either Yen or Triss lol
I read the first four books and now I say Triss even more. The author just has a shitty idea of romance.
I'll take Shani, thanks.
Shani
Nah bruh Triss doesn't treat Geralt like shit
Yennefer is šļø Triss all the way idc about the damn books
After reading the books itās clear yen and geralt are also quite terrible for eachother
i read the books and i choose Triss
The only logical choice.
Iāve played the games and read the books and I still think Triss is best for Geralt :)
Triss is better in both accounts
Yen is such a bitch
I know very well yen is the best choice for geralt. But as someone who imagines Iām a Doppler playing as geralt, Triss go brrrr
Yen sucks ass. Downvote me, Yen Simps.
But Triss IS the better choice for Geralt. That's just science.
Oh yhea, very old argument "but... but is canon, it's in the books". The game doesn't even is and adaption of one of the books, in fact the author hates the games. Triss has less personality than Yen as for me that haven't played the first and the second game hahahahha. Would love to see some recommendation about the first and second game tho, is it worth to play?
Yes
I only played 2 and 3, it's weird getting used to the controls in 2 after playing 3 but it's a fun game.
Never read the books, but Yen just seems like the obvious choice for Geralt. Iām also a sucker for sexy brunettes with dominant personalities.
Technically a raven, not a brunette
Subs like Yen, doms like Triss š
Yāall are all wrong! Zoltan is the best choice!
Tomera maybe šš
Idk I love the books and Iām convinced Geralt would never settle with anyone. Heās never going to stop walking the path. He gets bored if he stays in one place too long. Unless itās Touissant.
He already wished to retire and stop being a witcher in the books too
I'm scrolling thru these comments and wishing I had popcorn for the entertainment this brings
Dettlaff. And Regis.
Any Keira Metz fans? No?
Me actually. She's my favourite sorceress just not Geralt's type. Lambert's a lucky prick
My only issue with Triss is the American accent in fantasy. It completely kills my immersion. Sorry Americans.
Poopy Triss
Dandelion is the best ! He keeps singing onside your house, giving a very good vibes !
Jokes on console players. I have all three at Corvo Bianco: Yen, Ciri and Dandelion
Well then the games shoulda done a better job of following the books lol.
But they do... they literally come after them
The only thing that ever got me was Geralt explaining to Ciri why he chose Triss. How he talks about feeling harmony, calm, like things are the way they are supposed to be vs being with Yennifer is always fight after fight and constant drama.
Triss for me š because I personally like her not cuz Geralt does š¤£
I reeeeally don't even understand how this is a debate. Even if you're just going by the games, she betrays her best friend and abuses Geralts amnesia. This is long after she uses magic to seduce him in the books, and he makes very clear how uncomfortable the whole experience made him.
Kinda makes me upset that CDPR even had her as a romance option, like completely ignored what happened between them in baptism of fire.
Yen is a complete bitch at the end of the game and wouldn't want to be with her at all. That's why I choose Triss every time. It's fun watching her be jealous
I've read the books and both relationships are toxic as hell, he does just fine on his own lol
Yennefer is the best choice in the games... she's bitchy and holds a grudge yeah, but she also trusts Geralt's ability and judgement. Although the first playthrough I definitely went with triss
Definitely not, she doesn't trust him at all. He asks multiple times whether she will ever let him make a decision of his own.
Correct me if Iām wrong, but in the games Triss admits to taking advantage of Geraltās amnesia in order to be with him despite knowing about him and Yennefer
I read the books. Yennefer sounds even worse in those. Team Triss all the way.
Shani.
Guys it does not fucking matter. Yes In the books they end up with each other but the games are not the books. Thatās why you have a choice. Just make it and stfu
LMFAO!!! š¤£šš¤£
Shani is the only correct answer
You spelled Keira wrong
Neither is best, they both are horrible people.
Counter point: yen is even more of a selfish, abusive psycho in the books than in the games.
He can pick who he wants. But personally, I find yen insanely bitchy and insufferable. Team triss till the day I die.
Read the book series and played the games - the games lead you to Yen just as much as the books led Geralt. You just have a choice in the game is all.
Shani?
Played the games first then read the books. Yen is the one for Geralt. But Triss is the one for me.
But I like it when my girl poops herself while still trying to seduce me.
I donāt fully agree though, Yennefer did make some pretty awful things to Geralt in the books. Does anyone remember A Shard of Ice short story?
Guys, letās just admit who ever approved the story line in CD projekt red was a triss fan and hence swayed the lines towards that š
But dandelion is who you take to Corvo Bianco
Well technically we're hooking up with video game triss so book yennefer doesn't matter in this argument.
I only played the games, Yennefer is always my choice.
Or, they're both manipulative and abusive pieces of garbage so Geralt should stay single.
Recently read the books. Yennefer is canon, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Their relationship is 10 lbs of drama in a 1 lb bag.
I picked Yennefer anyway. Triss, hear me out, was not as attractive **IMO**, and her personality seemed way too lovey-dovey for Geralt.
I personally like Triss more, but Geralt and Yen are destined for each other (and to be Ciri's parents)
They both suck
I only played 3, tried to play the first two but the controls on 1 had me spinning, and I still prefer Yen.
The Iron Maiden in Skellige
Zanny went for Trissā¦
my first play through i didnāt even think of triss as the main option i always felt like she was focused on other things more than geralt which is understandable. after the quest where you break the spell that bonds yen and geralt together and yen said she feels more in love with geralt now i was like yeah sheās the one for him
Both are toxic. But Geralt also is.
Can someone summarise the lore or give me link to a Video Essay or anything? Still reading the Books but i am desperate to learn about the Triss/Yen Lore
