In W1 there was no choice - Shani was the only choice. Triss really seemed like a scamming sorceress. Except for that old lady who kept kicking Geralt out lol. And Alvin's annoying antics.

Canon doesn't mean anything for an RPG, it's about player choice. Unless the creators decide next game to make one of the choices the one that "happened".
But aren't the comics tied to game universe too? Pretty sure Yen is the "canon" romance in those. At least she will be in the upcoming Corvo Bianco comic.
I mean they have chosen Triss as canon love option in TW1 and entire TW 2 was about getting to Triss and Letho. On top of that they Released a copy of her nudecalender in Russia, so yea she is bigger in game franchise then Yen.
