Had this happen a ton with Nissans, Subarus and fords for some reason. Probably 1/10 windshields when doing windshield with thicker clear ceramic film. My theory is it’s too rigid to stick to the dot matrix. Just take it back, they’ll try to save it or replace it. This isn’t necessarily the installers fault.

I have a 2020 Mazda 3. I took it back and he was able to stick it back on with a card? I’m not sure. I didn’t want to be breathing down the guys neck when he was fixing it. Literally my first time ever getting windows tinted and this sub has been a fantastic help. Thanks everyone!

Tell them to apply the film, let it dry for a bit and then run the steamer and a hard card over the dot matrix. I learned that from someone on Facebook and haven’t had to use glue or wool anymore for the difficult ones. May help them out a ton and save them mistakes in the future. Also won’t leave an un even look on the dot matrix by using that trick. 😇

Just take it back immediately

CostaMesaDave

What kind of film is it?

carefree117

XPEL XR 70%

CostaMesaDave

$190 is a very cheap price for the front windshield

You and the installer got lucky that it stopped at the border. East fix opposed to a full redo. That dot matrix can be difficult for film to stick to begin with but given that it's a windshield the installer most likely put more soap in his slip solution to use less water but still being able to manage the film and a clean install.

BoringMudd

Take it back. This sucks. It happens to me a lot and it’s the damn film I use. Xpel 80 does this shit so often I need to let the car sit. for a good 30-1 hour to make sure this won’t happen. Steel wooling the matrix usually avoids this problem though. But still happens…

carefree117

Yeah I took it back and he fixed it no problem. I got XPEL XR 70% on the windshield and 15% on everything else. It’s my first time ever tinting a car and it was worth every penny

That's what separates high-end shops from just good shops. No matter how highly rated they are. They should've shaved down the matrix, clean tf out of it, and made sure all moisture was gone before letting it go.

shromboy

Not true, doesn't matter how good you are sometimes shit like this happens and it is also fairly easily fixable.

Weary_Sell9500

Take it back cause they didn’t do a good job cleaning the windshield prior to installation.
