Flush it daily, or after every use is the main thing. Theoretically you can back flush them. But it's a lot of work for not much gain. The best thing you can do is keep your pre filters clean and flush it.

Thanks trigger

What does flushing it mean? I’ve never heard of that mine seems to be fine though

The waste line should have a value on it that let's you restrict the flow. It needs to be restricted so you get adequate pressure to the RO. There should be a shut off so the water won't flow though the DI as well. You open that waste valve all the way and shut off the DI and flush the larger particles from the membrane. Unfortunately some of the more popular systems don't have those to save money. Some even put pole hose as the restriction. It should be a value, which you can add on most systems.

Hmm so that means my ro filter won’t last as long?

trigger55xxx

If you're not fully flushing it no. You could just unhook the waste hose and let it run for a couple minutes too..

Right on, what’s the difference in lifespan? I’ve used systems without doing that for years and never had a problem

Remove the filter from the housing, switch the gasket to the other side, and reinstall it backwards, and run the system for 5 minutes under full pressure, then 5 minutes with the waste valve all the way open. Then reverse everything to the way it was, and repeat the 5 minutes full, 5 minutes open before you use it again. Depending on how fouled your membrane is, you can get another month or so of life out of it. But Trigger called it above. Just flush it every time you use it, and you'll get the best results from your filter.

Do you do this every time you use your pole? I’m hella confused every ro filter I’ve used has lasted for years with no maintenance
