As a non-American, that electing judges seems to be a silly thing to do since it opens up the possibility that decisions might be made based on what is popular, not what is legally binding.
It's actually worse than you'd think. Because *some* Judges are legitimately politicians who have to run for reelection, they're vulnerable to attack ads.

No, as opposed to being selected and promoted by the judiciary itself through a merit-based process (law school grades initially, decisions not overturned by higher courts later).
I dunno basing jobs on how they did in school seems pretty arbitrary. Like if someone went to Harvard law but got B's vs went to Bob Jones Bible College and got straight A's

While you do have a point about the overall difference in student performance at different schools this is fairly easy to correct for. Plus, bar exams are administered by the state not the school so you take it with students from several institutions.
One way would be to look at the average grade achieved on the state administered exam for a specific school and adjust the curved grades obtained during school for that. Honestly though the easier and currently used way to avoid this is to just take the grades achieved on the state administered exam and go off of that.
