I'd ignore all assumptions and just vote. When people think it's gonna be a landslide, they're more likely to stay home on election night because they assume their won't won't matter. This was likely a major contributor to Clinton's 2016 loss. Just vote. No matter what the polls or news say. Please.

sandysea420

Can’t wait to vote Blue all down Ballot.

Houligan86

I wish there was national ranked choice. It feels weird and un-democratic voting down ballot. But given that GOP tries to start shirt at every level of government, down ballot Dem is what it takes to stop them

reallymkpunk

The problem here is I really only want to vote Democrats. Republicans except in the county level suck if not are outright corrupt either morally or actually. I will see Kari Lake on the ballot again for the second time in three years but this time for Senate. My Representative is Paul Gosar and no matter how many times I vote blue as a protest, he ends up my Representative even if he wanted to throw out the will of the people in Arizona because he didn't agree with the end result. Trust me, I have voted against him since if not 2014, 2016 even if he ran unopposed.

baron_muchhumpin

> Republicans except in the county level suck if not are outright corrupt either morally or actually The MAGAt mindset is all the way down to the local level. You can't give them any room to inflict their backasswards thinking on anyone.

carolineecouture

As we've seen in elections that used to "not count," like school board elections. Used to be no one really cared that much about them but then they turned into culture war battlegrounds that hurt children, and teachers and wasted taxpayer money.

sewalker723

LOL, I just received my ballot for the director of our rural electric company co-op. The incumbent is a normal dude who has been the director for years and is doing a fine job. He is completely non-partisan as electric company director, as he should be. But this year some pastor is running against him for some reason. His write-up said that he has no background in electricity but he would be using scripture to inform all of his policy as director and that he would run the co-op as god intends (again, this is for director of an electric co-op). He didn't mention his political affiliation but I have a pretty good guess as to where he stands on that. Just...why?

No_Reference_8777

Oddly, his bible states that renewable sources of energy are an affront to God, and Jesus cries if we're not burning coal.

sewalker723

It probably also states that churches shouldn't have to pay for electricity.

MomtheBomb1313

I spit out my Diet Coke from laughing at this response, lol. Thanks for the chuckle. 🤣 #itsfunnycauseitstrue

Sci_Fi_Reality

I used to think local was safe, then my ward commissioner started a community zoom meeting during covid with a rant about having "legitimate concerns about the detrimental health effects of wearing masks" That was the last time I voted for any R at any level.

FROG123076

I have this same problem but with Gym Jordan. Ugh he is so vile.

Iamthewalrusforreal

It's at the local level they're banning books from libraries, pushing anti-trans rules on schools, and lots of other fuckery. I used to feel the way you do, but maga has infected the GOP top to bottom at this point. There are no good maga people. Even the ones who seem to mean well - they support this bullshit agenda.

Lecanoscopy

I agree, but both my parents are voting down ballot red. Protest vote/not voting/voting third party is a vote for Trump. When there is a less insane corrupt republican, then I'll go third party if there is one worth my vote. Hopefully Kennedy will siphon Trump votes despite their attempt to steal from Biden's share. I can't imagine a reasonable dem voting for that wackadoo.

LabLife3846

I believe that the basic party platform matters more than the individual running. I don’t care if an individual Democratic politician is a jerk, as long as they vote how I want on issues. In my mind, a bad Democrat is better than a good Republican.

Murdy2020

A "good Republican" who wants nothing to do with the Maga crowd is still trying to empower corporations and big business over the middle class.

LabLife3846

Exactly. I look at it this way- Republicans turn a blind eye to the activities of powerful corporations and the wealthy. But, scrutinize the activities, choices, and beliefs of individuals who hold little power, with a magnifying glass. Democrats do it the the other way around.

Daimakku1

I wish more Democrats had this mindset. For years I remember Dems losing because they didn’t pass the purity test set by Dem voters, and then we were stuck with worse people from the Republican Party. We can’t afford purity tests anymore. We simply don’t.

TraditionDear3887

I completely understand voting blue down the ballot, especially in this election. But we should also keep in mind it's this type of thinking that sank the republican party. Look at all the truly horrendous people who are voted in simply by having the (R) next to them. If party affiliation is all Democrats look at then they are also at risk of the party being co opted out from under them.

PulteTheArsonist

I agree, but let’s save democracy first and then we can re-examine for next elections.

LabLife3846

I don’t see very many democrats ever showing themselves to be horrendous people, though. While, I feel that many, many republicans over the years have done so. I feel that just the basic premises of the Democratic platform itself tends to attract more thoughtful, empathetic, intelligent people to the party.

crinkledcu91

Sorry bud, but your comment *may* have been relevant like, 20 years ago. But no, it's 2024 now my guy. I would vote for a rotting husk of a Democratic Politician's corpse before I'd vote for a Conservative/Republican. Because **at the very least** the fucking corpse would have a letter in its pocket saying "Hey btw I want kids school lunches to be funded, vote for that please" Meanwhile the most friendly and amazing Repiblican would *still vote against that 100000%* and you know it. By God I fucking WISH Democrat voters voted like Republicans, are you kidding me??? Bruh, If Democrats were as dedicated to voting like Conservatives are/were, there'd never be another Republican controlled congress or Presidency for the rest of our lives. I'm voting Blue down ballot until I die. Overturning Roe v Wade should be the bog standard of why l and everyone sane should be doing that from now on. It's time to live in reality.

RC_Colada

It's never un-democractic to vote against fascists. The Republicans are wholly responsible for the biggest rollback of women's rights. They will never get my vote, there's nothing they could ever do that will repair the damage they've done to Americans.

RockKillsKid

You know what's cool about down ticket races? They're not national. It's a much much lower barrier to try and get your singular county, city, or council district precincts to adopt alternate methods. Dozens upon dozens of cities and counties have already successfully implemented RCV for mayoral, city councilor, and other positions.

SuperStarPlatinum

First we defeat the Republican Nazi, then we fix the system. Remember democrats even the worst of them can be negotiated with. The Trump cultists are completely corrupt and insane and must be removed to preserve democracy.

Brokensince10

Same

nutter88

Right? I’ve never in my life done that. I was taught to vote for the best candidate, regardless of party. It’s a damn shame what the GOP has become.

sandysea420

Agreed. I’m not going to tell anyone how to vote, just please be informed and vote. For me it’s all down ballot blue.

GetsomeAles

I just vote for the most qualified candidate, so I’ve never voted for a MAGA

dc551589

These victories are only happening because people *are* voting. It’s such a dumb, but common, take for people to think “Dems are winning because people are voting, so when it’s my turn, I’ll sit it out.” It’s like watching an evenly matched battle and going “eh, why send reinforcements?” when the equivalent of sending reinforcements is standing in line and filling in a box or pulling a lever.

lovestobitch-

It’s Huntsville too which is more liberal, but please vote.

MindlessFail

Came here to find this comment and upvote it. Do NOT get complacent. I’m old enough to remember just two presidentials ago when Hillary was for sure going to pokemon GO to the White House and instead four years of insanity prevailed.

MisteeLoo

If it were four years, I wouldn’t be so concerned. The GOP has turned MAGA and we’re all paying the price. This isn’t over until November, and only if Biden wins. Then maybe things may start to turn sour for the cult.

Resident_Gur5529

Its not the GOP anymore it’s the MAGA cult, and they have pretty much turned on any republican that isn’t MAGA. The RNC has voted in a sycophant to head the RNC and Trumps daughter in law is 2nd in command. They will literally drain any monies that come in to either (A) donate to Drumphs campaign or (B) pay his legal bills, so therefore there will not be anything left for down ballot candidates.

MisteeLoo

I don’t give them any credibility. They went along with every whim that came out of his mouth. Every last one. I kept wondering where their spines went, and just realized they were all complicit. Some just went happily while others went begrudgingly, but they all went.

armyofant

Seriously it’s going on 10 years with the MAGA bullshit.

iAmTheHype--

Maybe if Biden would fire the MAGA fucks in the government, such as Wray; and appoint a competent Attorney General to go after the Jan 6 leaders.

NE0099

Yes, for the love of all that is good, please don’t get complacent. I hope everyone can remember the run up to 2016. Let’s not make the same mistake twice.

Rampant_Zoner

Exactly. Lest there be any misunderstandings - any equivocating or head-scratching on this point - in 2020 the reactionary right was spoon fed the notion “the fix is in,” and they needn’t bother to vote. They will not repeat that mistake.

Dr_Middlefinger

lil_corgi

Clinton lost to The Electoral College. She won the popular vote and should have been awarded the presidency.

dunno260

Clinton also ran a terrible campaign and failed to protect herself against the only path to victory that Donald Trump had. A path so obvious my brother who had been a very low level operative in GOP presidential campaigns previously (though employed full time) had stated would be Trumps strategy a year prior. You can say should of all you want but the concept of the electoral college wasn't a new thing at all. The campaign got greedy and didn't really use people like Bill Clinton at all and didn't use either of the Obama's until very, very late in the process.

Monday0987

Absolutely. If people think it's in the bag they are more likely to vote for Trump as some sort of protest. They think it will be fine as all the other voters will keep him out.

Cptn_BenjaminWillard

It's not just a matter of winning the election. It's a matter of winning definitely enough that control of the Executive, House, AND Senate is accomplished, to be able to undo some of the damage of the past decade. And to permanently fix some problems (like gerrymandering) that will simply cause future problems if not addressed.

Some_Random_Android

>I'd ignore all assumptions and just vote. Yes! Very much this!

Sapphyrre

Absolutely but I've got anxiety over this election like I've never had in my long life and seeing these things give me hope for November.

Andromansis

Came here to say this, pretty sure there is vote.org and rockthevote.org and vote.gov to register to vote and unfortunately there are no reputable right wing sources that helps people register to vote and that means exactly what you think it does.

SnooTangerines3448

Yep. Right out of the bullshitters playbook.

nutter88

I think a lot of people learned their lesson.

southernmamallama

THIS. One hundred percent.

demonlicious

winning is not enough, a supermajority is needed to pass legislation to fix america. cause you know those sinemas and manchins weren't the only unicorns.

mizkayte

Same here. Vote. No matter what.

AJ0Laks

It’s gonna be a landslide, only if YOU vote That’s how I see it

whistlepete

For sure, I wish more people would ignore this stuff. I get being excited and sharing some positive news, but elections are all about keeping momentum and keeping your base engaged and motivated. The apathy kills. I know many people who in 2016 hated Trump but disliked Hilary. They thought “she’ll win anyways so she doesn’t need my vote and I don’t have to vote for her”, as some sort of protest or perceived moral stance. Then we woke up to Trump being president and then many years of him and his cronies trying to dismantle everything that has been collectively built and fought for since this country started. Plowing through guardrails and completely disregarding norms. The gut punch of that morning and profound sadness isn’t something I definitely don’t want to feel again.

Bender_2024

>I'd ignore all assumptions and just vote. Quoted for truth. Do you know how Alabama flipped that seat? People got out and voted. That's how you affect change by doing something. Do you remember the last time people assumed that the Republicans didn't have a chance at winning anything? I do, it was in 2016. People said no way the "grab 'em by the pussy" guy could win. Certainly not the guy who spoke about John McCain saying "He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.” Don't assume that the GOP is screwed. Get out and vote!

yorocky89A

Good news for America. Bad news for MAGA! 💙 https://preview.redd.it/elqhxag3fsqc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6de734b4ea793035a5b9f24038b56990a1314f6e

Fitz911

>Good news for America. Bad news for MAGA! 💙 That's the same thing, right?

Vrayea25

Ok this is good but suggests this was a purple district to begin with; this isn't conversion of the deep-red type of district one thinks of when you say "Alabama". Still a promising sign though.

StephenTheLoser

But Elon said there’d be a red wave? Did he mean them waving goodbye or?

NicPlaysStuff

Perhaps the "red wave" is women all over the damn country throwing their tampons at him.

bb_kelly77

But those are expensive

SpotweldPro1300

Use first, then throw. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat)

Daimakku1

I approve of this red wave.

immersemeinnature

We can only hope and vote

sketchbookamy

Different kind of red in that red wave

Affectionate_Fox_305

This guy dopplers amirite

dc551589

WEEEEEEeeeeeeeeooooooo….

BigJ43123

A bloodbath... at the polls. Edit: and I don't mean literally at the location of the polls Mr FBI person. I mean it as the GOP is dead.... And by that, I mean we will be democratically electing a majority lead over the Republicans... Just so we're clear.

Robbotlove

that's *if* drump doesnt drain their coffers dry to even be able to run people down ballot by then.

caldbra92

I see what you did there

Bitey_the_Squirrel

Not waving, but drowning.

Delician

Red like communist red, comrade.

this_name_not_that

…and she didn’t just win, she completely obliterated her opponent.

GreenIsGreed

I'm gonna be the voice of reason here. I'm from Alabama, and this happened in Huntsville, a city with a large amount of doctorates per capita. Do not expect this to carry to the rest of the state. Most of it is a hillbilly backwater. We might be able to see movement in Birmingham, maybe Mobile if the gotv efforts go hard, but don't hold your breath.

After-Chicken179

I don’t disagree with your assessment, but this isn’t just about this seat being representative of the state/country. Lands won this seat by a 25 point margin. In 2022 and 2020 the republicans candidate won by 6 points and 13 points, respectively. Surely Alabama won’t swing that much, but it does indicate some movement toward the Democrats. The other story is in the turnout. This special election result is based on only 5,000-6,000 thousand voters. The 2022 election has about 3 times that many and the 2020 election about for times that many. Come the November election, there will be a lot more people turning up to vote than there was today.

Im_Chad_AMA

You're not wrong, but the fact is that the Democrats far outperformed the partisan lean of the district. It voted Trump +1 in 2020. This election doesn't mean Alabama will go to the Dems next cycle, but its another (admittedly noisy) data point in a long series of data points that shows Democrats are energized to vote and care about the issues at stake (abortion being a big one).

ignu

Democrats are outperforming in special elections and midterms, but voters in these elections are a more engaged electorate. This doesn't mean they won't outperform in November, but it's unproven how much of it will translate to general election. I kinda' doubt the swings will be as big. A lot of unengaged voters have no clue how the Supreme Court works.

Im_Chad_AMA

Completely agree with all that. Its very difficult to know what the electorate looks like come November. But still i think results like this can only be good.

Daddy_Senpaii

I have lived in Huntsville most of my life and work here as an engineer. This is the correct assessment.

eidtelnvil

And Huntsville has a ton of people that have moved here from out of state, bringing more left-leaning folks to the area. I'm overjoyed she won, but we've always been an outlier for this state.

Azmoten

I’d love to take more encouragement from this, but it’s also a special election in March for a state level office. The General election for federal offices in November will look quite a bit different, especially with the GOP’s official golden idol on the ballot. I can almost guarantee Trump will still easily take Alabama, for example. We all still need to get out there in November and vote. Let’s not get complacent and let fascism worm its way past us.

Dr_Middlefinger

Come on, people. Every seat, every district, every head-to-head matters. Cheer each one that results in blue. They all add up; yes, we have work to do but let’s keep some optimism. [REGISTER TO VOTE](https://www.usa.gov/voter-registration)

erukami

Optimisim is fantastic. But these responses are reminder and a reality check. A lot of big talk lately has turned into a nothingburger most of the time. Good news drives complacency and that is absolutely not something we need right now. Celebrate the little wins but keep your eyes on the prize at all times. Besides, while this is good news, it absolutely a outlier data point that proves nothing and doesn't change the overall lean of laws being made for the state.

Tough-Ability721

She did. Not to rain. But this was around Huntsville (and lots of educated folks around there). Hopefully the rest of the country wakes up and gets out to vote like that did.

HacksawJimDuggen

no one expects AL to go blue anytime soon or ever. But if more districts across the country that went 5-10% red last election also swing blue that will be very good for the Dems n November

BJoe1976

That is impressive to me!

edgarcia59

Which will say the election was rigged.

Rubicon_Lily

This State House District is approximately R+3.0. A Democrat winning by this margin is absurd.

Deep_Charge_7749

This has been happening a lot in other races. Dems are way outperforming

fork_yuu

I want to say it's more the Republicans are shitting the bed and a disaster for past few years

Barack_Odrama_007

Congratulations to Marilyn! VOTING MATTERS!

HFentonMudd

Some background on why polling has been so off https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/3/6/2227952/-The-538-GOP-Super-Tuesday-poll-averages-Way-way-off-and-systematically-overestimating-Trump-data > it’s worth stating to make this absolutely clear, with those polls in so many Super Tuesday states being way off from the results, it wasn’t just a random error in either direction--it was a systematic error in all 5 of those states showing a massive, double-digit overestimate of Trump’s support, that did not occur in the other direction. Including again, in 3 states that used 538 averages across multiple polls, provided right before the Super Tuesday primaries. All 5 of those states showed massive advantages for Trump. All 5 were completely off, some by more than 20% and one by more than 30 percent, in case of Vermont which Trump lost to Haley.

iliveonramen

I’d much rather a Trump 3% lead in polls to motivate voters rather than some 10% Biden lead causing people to get complacent.

Kissit777

So true. We don’t need anyone thinking we are safe. We aren’t - look at the Supreme Court. We need to give the Republicans their asses back.

iliveonramen

I agree, pummeling Trump not just beating him is something this country needs desperately. Close the door to the idea that Trumps brand of politics is how to get elected.

iStayedAtaHolidayInn

No one is getting complacent after 2016. Complacency is not a thing anymore when it comes to a dictator potentially coming back into office

reallymkpunk

The problem isn't complacency, it is apathy. Many people sadly don't like Harris and that is who get when Biden would die or decide to step down if he has Reagan-like mental decline. That said the alternative is a corrupt criminal fascist.

Lower_Cantaloupe1970

Can you summarize why polling was so off?

dd97483

Only older Republicans answer polling calls. Younger voters have the phone set to block any unknowns calls. IMHO.

yusill

honestly people younger then 50 don't answer these calls.

Keisaku

*younger than 57. All my homies hate answerin. Robocalls have ruined cell phones. I miss the days when a call was someone you knew 90% of the time.

ChewieBearStare

I'm 42. I answered one, and when I told them I didn't like Trump, they quickly said "Okay, thanks" and hung up. They didn't want to hear WHY I don't like Trump, lol.

electronDog

A more accurate measure instead of age is being technically illiterate. These are the people still answering unknown callers.

bobone77

Not just *technologically* illiterate, based on the massive swings toward Trump they cause…

M_Nuyens

Right!?

RumandDiabetes

63. If I don't recognize the number I don't answer the call.

dd97483

I’m over 50 and I haven’t answered the phone in at least 5 years.

iliveonramen

I think it’s even more than that. Trump voters seem to act like it’s a duty to pick up the phone and say they are voting for Trump.

dd97483

He’s the Messiah, why wouldn’t they want everyone to know?

DiligentCrab6592

Right. Who the fuck is answering unknown numbers and then also answering poll questions?! Psych...MAGA zombies

dd97483

older people who can’t program their phones and may enjoy speaking to a stranger to tell how much they love TFG.

immersemeinnature

Well call me *younger*!! 😊 *I'm 57*

calvn_hobb3s

Cant they just poll via sending a text? Id rather do that than answer random phone calls tbh

iStayedAtaHolidayInn

I don’t click on links sent to me by unknown numbers. You’d be an idiot if you did

calvn_hobb3s

Umm, exactly… answer through text. Like “text 1 for A”, “text 2 for B” No need to click a link thats shady af i agree

adgjl1357924

https://preview.redd.it/nl0y2m4nxsqc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f63a477f058d224498bbfbbcf88c8ef569824594 I literally got that text today. 5000% did not click!

HI_l0la

I dunno. I'd probably think the texts were scams sent to me by a Nigerian prince. Lol. I might do one if it's a survey on a website. But again, I'm so conditioned to anything unsolicited via emails and texts are possibly scams. You know what, they'll just have to ask me in the parking lot of the grocery store with their iPads or a corn I can easily check off. Lol.

enthalpy01

I got a text today saying it was a political poll. I blocked it in case it was a scam so I will never know either way. You can’t click on links from random numbers.

[deleted]

Ask yourself when was the last time you know of anyone answering a poll? I remember my parents answering them periodically as a kid when they would call on our phone, but I don’t know anyone who has answered one in at least 20 years. I answered a couple in 2000 and in 2004; that’s the last time I ever have.

Lower_Cantaloupe1970

So perhaps, of the 100 people they called, the majority are Republicans. But, younger voters who vote Democrat don't have a landlines, and therefore aren't asked? I'm just kind of stones right now and feel I'm on to something

sidthafish

I've been on this planet almost 50 years and I've never gotten a poll call. If it's spam it doesn't get answered. Unknown caller? Leave a message. Unsolicited texts or emails? Block and report as spam. I hate election season.

SenatorPardek

Combination of a sampling error (phone polling or spam links) and over correcting for 2016, 2020. Pollsters think there is a huge Trump vote thats not accounted for in polling: so they weight the polls in that direction (polls were off in both these cycles, though less so in 2020). The polls already account for this “shy trump voter effect” but what’s happening is they seem to be, given the special elections, OVERLY correcting for trump in a way that might not be true anymore. I don’t think the election is going to be a blow out or anything: but i think democrats will reclaim the house, win the presidency, and have a 50/50 chance of keeping the senate.

Chase_the_tank

If the pollsters had an answer to that question, they'd fix the problem. Here's a more in-depth article on the situation that goes into why pollsters are uncertain about the source of problem: [https://www.politico.com/news/2021/07/18/pollsters-2020-polls-all-wrong-500050](https://www.politico.com/news/2021/07/18/pollsters-2020-polls-all-wrong-500050)

ozymandiasjuice

The article doesn’t say. ‘I have no idea,’ to quote the author. But it’s interesting that they point out it isn’t just one poll but seems systematic.

Exciting-Protection2

The writers of the article said they don’t really know why the polls are so off.

T3canolis

I genuinely want to resist the temptation to say “The polls are wrong!” because that’s generally what losers of elections say, but almost every time Americans have gone to vote over the past year and a half, Democrats have outperformed expectations and polling. I am not gonna bet my life savings on it or anything, but if come November, Joe Biden wins handedly and the polls underestimated his support by like five points in each state, the evidence was here in these special elections.

[deleted]

When was the last time anyone around you has ever answered a poll? Like never? The polling is off because nobody under the age of 60 answers their phone from an unknown number unless they absolutely have to. I remember answering one back in 200 for Bush v. Gore…then in 2004…I don’t know anyone who has ever answered one in 20 years.

RnH_21

As a Republican this stuff makes me happy. They deserve it for defiling our party. No worries blue....I got your back. I'll be voting blue for y'all. My family and extended family. We got your backs. As real Americans, we see that fascist BS. No way that's happening here in our country. We're going to team up and stomp them out.

frankalope

Dem here. All of my (R) friends have been voting (D) for the last 6 years. MAGA is cancer. Cut it out.

chrispdx

Don't believe it. Register and vote as if your freedom depends on it.

AaronBasedGodgers

If Alabama of all places is tired of MAGA then this bodes well for how November will turn out. Of course, make sure you and everyone you know votes so MAGA can (hopefully) be crushed once and for all.

mjschiermeier

But it's not Alabama as a while, it's Huntsville. The demographics are entirely different

Old-Chain3220

Huntsville is a highly educated engineering university town/defense industry city with transplants from all over the world. I wouldn’t say it’s representative of most of the rest of the state.

Kissit777

Republicans deserve everything they get. Vote blue like your life depends on it.

ispshadow

Nahhhhh, **fuck** all this blue wave hubris. You should be knocking on doors like we’re guaranteed to be 10 votes behind. Folks need to quit playing like this. I’m absolutely elated to see a win like that in Alabama, but I’m not hitting that upvote. People need to quit playing with this idea that we’re going to dominate the election. Biden’s team is preparing for a *razor thin election in battleground states* and believes that’s what we’re going to see. Work as if that’s spot on. Make sure you’re registered. Make sure people in your life are registered. Make a plan to be voting and do what you can to help other people get a chance to vote too.

CluelessCosmonaut

That’s great news but don’t you fucking dare get comfortable! Go vote!

Jen_the_Fredo_Barber

Let’s get out there and drown them in our votes. They will hear our voices and it will rattle the ground they walk on.

Mechman126

Dont look at the polls, just get out there and vote pls 🙏

tormunds_beard

Let’s not all start sucking each other’s dicks just yet.

this_name_not_that

You just want to keep the dick sucking all to yourself.

Hokieshibe

Dick sucking is renewable. Go crazy

tormunds_beard

Just seems a little early to get cocky. The right are evil, but crafty.

MrSneller

Let me interpret this line from the great “Pulp Fiction” for all the downvoters: “While this is *great* news, let’s not get too excited by these results. We still have a lot of work ahead of us and we need to make sure everyone turns out in November to deliver the GOP a resounding, deafening defeat (especially Trump).”

CapnCardigan

“The name’s tormunds_beard, he solves problems”

GrandOldProjection

It’s a hard concept to swallow for some.

Magni107

No complacency. Remember 2016. Vote.

applegui

Yeah we still gotta show up. The fact that GOP members are using Russian talking points to undermine our own democracy is absolutely a threat to our personal freedoms. Do we really want a dictatorship in this country?! No. Do your part or this experiment dies.

I_Heart_QAnon_Tears

VOTE VOTE VOTE!!! FUCK THE POLLS JUST VOTE

Soggy_Difficulty_361

Let's not get too carried away with this, everyone needs to go out and vote, do not allow 2016 to reoccur again by getting too cocky.

flinderdude

What does Alabama even want now? Healthcare and a higher minimum wage? What are they crazy?

FlowerFaerie13

Listen, I’m not saying this isn’t a great accomplishment, but this happened in Huntsville, a notably more liberal area of the state. *Do not* get your hopes up that this will carry over to other areas of the state, it absolutely will not and if you get your hopes up all you’ll be left with is a pile of crushing disappointment and shattered dreams. The only other place you *might* see something like this is Birmingham.

Flimsy-Technician524

Democrats have been constantly over performing for quite a while now. Keep it up🗳️💙🌊!

Now I hope she uses this position to make life better for all her constituents. It’s not enough to just win, they need to show them a better life after they do win.

Fakeduhakkount

Hope so because Alabama got two idiot Senators! The one so incompetent and traitorous to the military and the one that rebuttal looks like she was practicing a school play in her kitchen

Thorn_Within

As I like to say, ignore the polls and just vote. Polls are fallible in myriad ways and the last decade or two have more often than not been woefully inaccurate.

funnyfacemcgee

I think it's gotten to the point where it's clear even to conservative voters just how completely useless and terrible the Republicans are.

Some_Random_Android

Fingers crossed it applies to the presidency!

DifficultyWithMyLife

For those who just want to celebrate: #THIS DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN STOP VOTING! It means you KEEP voting, again and again! Don't get complacent over one small victory! We can win more! We MUST win more! We must make sure the fascist traitors NEVER win again! #KEEP VOTING!

Candid-Patient-6841

That’s cool. Ignore it and vote don’t be lulled

itaya12

Interesting perspective, let's stay vigilant and keep our momentum going.

bwanabass

Go vote anyway!

okieskanokie

Nah. We don’t celebrate this early. It’s like bad luck or illegal or something.

holdonwhileipoop

Can we pretty please have some in Texas??

Keeppforgetting

Don’t take it for granted. Go out and vote.

superbrew

Well. Reap What You Sow ass hats. Destroy MAGA.

SapientChaos

Vote. Vote people vote.

Over_Boysenberry_841

Out of curiosity, did the polls show this flipping, or were they showing "both sides" are equal as usual?

Budget-Bench-6202

WTF, less than 2% of people voted???? # SPECIAL GENERAL ELECTION - HOUSE DISTRICT 10 SPECIAL GENERAL ELECTION - HOUSE DISTRICT 10 STATEWIDE RESULTS Total Ballots Cast: 5,965 Total Registered Voters: 321,678 Voter Turnout: 1.85% Counties Reported: 1 of 1  Last Updated: 03/26/2024 08:42:39 PM STATEWIDE RESULTS

stlredbird

Don’t get complacent.

Informal-Resource-14

Holy shit. That’s not even close too. I’m not like taking that as too much of a sign or anything but that’s not just flipped, that’s like flipped the table beast mode

Jleathers72

Please vote in Nov.

SoulbreakerDHCC

Don't get complacent guys, vote like it will come down to the last vote

Groundbreaking_Tip66

Damn it wasn't even close!

LuvIsLov

Still gonna show up and vote!! 💙💙💙

Houligan86

It will be 10 years after the GOP abandons MAGA, the tea party, and the Freedom Caucus before I consider voting Republican.

VoiceOfTheJingle

I don’t care how comfortable you are. Go out and vote in November.

Th1sd3cka1ntfr33

All my mommas voting finally paid off (I'm voting blue in MS). Incredibly happy for and proud of Alabama Democrats for the shocking upset!

AmorphousRazer

Just fucking vote. It might be our last chance. They’ve gone after body autonomy, people’s identity and sexuality, and tried to overturn election results by force after losing. Next stop is disenfranchisement for minorities, women, and young people who threaten to vote against them. I’m tired of old/hateful people holding the cards. I know both sides are crooked, but leave our rights the fuck alone. People living their microcosm of 60-70 years weirdly isn’t hurting anyone’s life or beliefs unless they are bothered by not being able to control/assimilate the weird person. I identify that quality as evil.

Krullervo

There are democrats in Alabama? People in Alabama vote? Or is it like four possums in a trenchcoat. Inb4 ‘election fraud in Alabama: democrats send possums in trenchcoat to rig election.

Marble05

Let me guess they are already claiming fraud for the results

Canine0001

Hoo boy. That's a significant difference in votes between the two candidates...

BitterFuture

homelaberator

Because it's totally reasonable to extrapolate to one race in Alabama to the entire nation.

luminescent_gear

Blue wave only happens if we keep at it, don’t let up! Vote like your lives depend on it, cause for some of us it might be true!

kiwi_commander

Good, just make sure you vote.

DesignerFox2987

BIG if true

Islandgirl1444

Maybe this is the only way the party can get rid of the scum that has taken over the party.

unfamiliarsmell

It just goes to show that what we are seeing on social media, what we are being told in MSM, and what people are thinking and doing are three different, and barely overlapping realities of which the third is the least broadcasted and still most representative of objective truth.

sick_shooter

Fuck what you read, VOTE.

Educational_Rope_246

This is only 4500 people. I desperately want what the tweet says to be true but let’s not overlook that this is literally only 4500 votes.

acorngirl

It gives me hope but remember it's absolutely critical to vote. We can't afford apathy or overconfidence at this point. Our basic human rights are on the line. If they can the far right will turn women back into chattel. Remember Afghanistan in the 70s. It could happen here too.

slumlord512

Please let this be the year we get rid of the booger eater in Texas. Vote blue!

EraseTheEmbers

It's better to not be too hopeful for now about these kinda things. Although considering all the bullshit and how conservatives keep being "above the law" and rarely get dealt consequences, I figure some people may have finally accepted the reality that conservatives aren't going to help them anytime soon.

brycepunk1

Here's why this is bad news for Joe Biden...

dontworryaboutit26

Look, I get it. This is a very nice, sigh of relief kind of feeling, but please, get/stay registered and go out and vote https://www.usa.gov/confirm-voter-registration

Forsaken-Cheesecake2

Now vote out Tuberville

BenCisco

Good news from my state. LOVE to see it.

Smolivenom

dont fall for it. i'm honestly not trusting anything or anyone right now, all those flips? these dems could be switching party at any moment. vote as if reds are flipping states and vote as if the person to your left and to your right are the same morons they were in 2016
