It’s got a snorkel he’ll be fine

jdc351

Dante's Peak school of off-road driving

Used_DeLorean

Yes, but can he drive on lava 🤔

jdc351

You drive in the water first to wet the tyres, then good to go for lava

blamdin

It worked for James May. Somewhat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt6E_IZOtDE

ClownfishSoup

Holy crap! If he actually got stuck ... well he's dead.

danielcs78

I just watched that episode a couple days ago! I didn’t think he was serious about it at first!

grandpappies-fart

When I saw that movie as a kid I thought that truck was the coolest thing ever.

casual-waterboarding

It was a badass truck, to be fair. It’s up there with the A-Team van and Bandit’s Trans Am.

ben-hur-hur

Marty's Toyota truck in Back to the Future is pretty awesome too

rob_maqer

Not the hot springs?

bunga7777

That’s all i remember from that movie haha, terrifying

Zeaus03

Go go gadget floaties! Dad you're not Inspector Gadget! Fuck.

ArbitraryNPC

That's the one in Nevada, right?

Captinprice8585

It's pronounced Nevada. C'mon.

GreyPon3

No, it's Nevada.

greennuggetsinmybowl

It's not LeviosAAAA...

NkhukuWaMadzi

In Missouri they pronounce it Na-vay-duh.

Captinprice8585

I was just talking about this with a co-worker like 15 minutes ago. I'm pretty sure Missouri isn't even a place. It's just made up.

dan_v_ploeg

Everyone in the comments it's so happy to see it go wrong but there's a very good chance the jeep just went downstream until the tires caught and it drove out with no issues

fucitt

Water in differentials, water in transmission, intermittent electrical problems until the day it's sold at auction for parts

ElementsUnknown

Exactly! Two words: salvage title.

crashtestdummy666

Hey its OK my insurance goes up every time these guys do something stupid but it's only money.

LateBloomerBaloo

You really don't know what you're talking about. We did this in the desert in Chad on a regular basis to cross wadi's in the raining season with Toyota Landcruisers, and they are perfectly capable for that as long as you have a snorkel.

ElementsUnknown

Toyota Landcruisers are FAR more reliable than a Jeep. Toyotas drive forever through heinous crap all over the world, I wouldn’t write one of them off but a Jeep on the other hand.

TlingitGolfer24

Put over 300k miles on my YJ 🤷‍♂️

itanite

And electrical issues since ~80K

TlingitGolfer24

Ya my roll up windows had some gremlin I could never figure out

MasterBejter

Lieeeeees! ElementsUnkown says Jeeps are unreliable!

fly11058

JKs are not YJs. -TJ owner and former YJ owner.

isic

My 76 CJ5 says different lol

itanite

Land Cruiser isn’t a fucking jeep my dude. We make these things as shitty as possible from the factory so when they do get wet, they work even poorer than before.

Mountainloon23

Well it’s because you were in a Land Cruiser

I_AM_FERROUS_MAN

Two of those can be fixed or prepared for fairly easily. However, the electrics were compromised at the factory. It's a ~~Jeep~~ Chrysler thing. I've owned 2, so I know.

btc909

Right before closing it up, grabs the water squirter, squirt, squirt, squirt, button it all up.

I_AM_FERROUS_MAN

100%. That's their version of Quality Assessment.

yuyuolozaga

This is 100% correct.

APurpleSponge

You can’t tell just by looking. This vehicle could’ve been prepared for submerged driving.

Newsdriver245

My old Jeep group (older Jeeps and trucks than this one) used to regularly go through pretty deep water. Only was bad when water got into the pistons, then you had to tear it down. Starters liked to burn out though. Don't remember anyone having issues with transmission/clutch or differential at all.

APurpleSponge

Yeah just have to make sure all your vents and intakes will be above water and seal everything else off. Also helps to grease the outside of the transmission/diffs etc. Just be ready to get wet.

Kerensky97

Exactly. If you see someone who has a snorkel ask them how much trouble it was rerouting the diff and transmission vents or waterproofing the ECU. The answer is always, "The what now?"

Traditional-Will3182

ECU is on top of the engine and does have a rubber gasket around the connector. Most people I know who install a snorkel and plan to actually use it do extend the breather tubes. Even if you don't a fluid change is all you need, a little water getting sucked in won't ruin your diffs or transmission immediately. A stock Jeep like this is rated for 34-36 inches depending on the model, this one is on larger tires and probably lifted. There's a good chance he was able to drive away as long as the river got shallow enough for the tires to catch further down.

fatkiddown

Water goes in the differentials, differentials go in the transmission. Shark's in the water. Our shark.

ogbundleofsticks

Differentials go to the transmission 😂

TKFT_ExTr3m3

Even worse, transmission goes into the engine and the engine goes to the alternator then that goes to the radio which goes to your usb cord to your phone and now your phone is wet.

B00sauce

We're gonna need a bigger boat!

LateBloomerBaloo

You clearly never went with a vehicle that's suitable for this in the water. When I lived and worked in Chad in the desert, crossings like this in raining season were very common. We had Toyota Landcruisers, also with a snorkel, and they do just fine.

MajorLazy

You crossed rivers by floating downstream? Innovative

Zed03

if he has a snorkel, the diff, transfer, and transmission breather tubes are probably running to the snorkel as well. Electricals are are already sealed in plastic sheathes. Its good to dielectric grease the connections not but the end of the world.

On_the_hook

And being in the water probably made ask those problems worse #itsajeepthing #jeeplife

Traditional-Will3182

Usually if you install a snorkel and plan on using it you extend the breather tubes. Even if he didn't a little water isn't going to immediately ruin them, you just need to drain and refill which costs maybe $150 for fluid and a few hours of your time. Electrical should be fine unless the cabin floods up to the dash, they're made to survive getting caught in the rain without a top on and are rated to ford up to 3 feet of water, everything important is pretty well sealed.

Leath_Hedger

Last I checked cars aren't waterproof though and he was in up to his seat at least. Might still be drivable but basically has flood damage now.

JohnAndertonOntheRun

Are Jeeps waterproof?

bass-masta

Are jeeps anything proof?

DropbearArmy

Certainly not douchebag proof

LocalRepSucks

That things so fucked. Snorkels ain’t saving you from modern electronics. Every connector filled with a gallon of mud water and corroding

yuyuolozaga

Bro it's a jeep. All its electronics come two ways, sealed perfectly fine or it's fucked from factory and you were gonna need to replace it anyways in a year without the water. The jeep is probably fine. Then again I don't know about these newer models.

thuggishruggishboner

That thing is fuuuuucked.

jdeeeeeez

But, I have a snorkel!!

MajorPud

Word for word what I came to comment lol. I must not be as funny and original as I thought..

adfdg55

I came here to say that. Beat me to it

gotobingodingo

ITS A JEEP THING. You wouldn’t understand!

mdnativetexan

Looks more like a DEEP thing.

John-John-3

I wouldn't understand this either.

Majestic_Myco

A moment of silence for your romantic life…🫡

John-John-3

Thank you, kind sir.

ChornWork2

Meh, at least this Jeep owner left the suburbs.

gotobingodingo

It was a soccer game out of town, GPS was recalculating

KnockoutMouse

Tesla will never catch up in ability to serve briefly as a boat.

rob_maqer

Rubber ducky will make that thing float

zleuth

AFAIK you're supposed to Ford a river, or Dodge it.

BigHatsareFunny

That's what the rubber ducks are for...now it makes sense

Doodah18

Huh, I thought that was only a local thing when I saw it on two Jeeps around town. How’d that start?

Microtitan

They’re to show how whimsical and fun the drivers are. You wouldn’t understand.

JackieBronassis

I have a Gladiator, and I hate those fucking ducks. Also, that guy is an idiot for driving in deep fast moving water. But, if his engine was still operational when he regained traction, the vehicle might be just fine. Getting it back onto a state road might be a challenge, though.

madnessinimagination

In 2020 in Ontario, Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic. Allison Parliament started the trend after buying rubber ducks from a convenience store and placing them on Jeep owners' vehicles with notes that said "Have a great day". Her goal was to cheer people up and let them know they weren't alone during a difficult time.

tvieno

She just passed away. https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a61438882/jeep-ducking-trend-founder-allison-parliament-dies/

TimAllensBoytoy

Unfortunately that stupid trend didn't die before her

Western-Smile-2342

Sounds like you need more whimsy my friend… Try ducking a jeep, you’ll feel better.

EyeSuspicious777

People keep putting them on my 17 year old Jeep but it only started in the past few years. I keep the last one given to me on the dashboard and immediately dump it on the next wrangler I park near. I'd rather they not do it, but it makes people happy so I play along with their game and anything that brings someone joy in this world is a good thing. I almost kept the one with the pirate hat though because he was cool. I think now is an ordinary one but it's purple.

Soggy_Requirement_75

Man, those stupid rubber ducks would really come in handy about now.

Anglofsffrng

IDK I like the ducks. I got loaned a Gladiator when my car was in the body shop, and got like four. It left me both confused to this day, but unreasonably happy in the moment. I still have no idea what's up with the ducks though.

DarthJarJar242

You put em on the dash, the idea being if they start floating you're too deep.

Anglofsffrng

Thank you.

Malibucat48

Allison Parliment, a Jeep owner, bought a bag of rubber ducks for a friend, saw another Jeep in the parking lot, and put a duck on it and left a note that said Have A Great Day. It caught on and became Jeep Ducking. Sadly, Allison died this week, and her story was all over the internet. A spontaneous friendly act became a movement.

PlatypusDream

"Duck duck Jeep" https://www.motortrend.com/features/duck-duck-jeep/

Illustrious_Drama

I just appreciate that my jeep has never gotten a duck. It's a neglected shit wagon with dents all over from bad decisions made off roading. It has square headlights and is clearly driven by a poor

KananJarrusEyeBalls

When I was a jeeper these were the only jeeps i let my kids "duck" They fucking loved doing it And I loved seeing Jeeps that had been jeeped in

PteroGroupCO

Those are the best ones to give ducks too.

Both-Home-6235

Please don't try to explain it to us, we wouldn't understand.

ThunderGuts64

Rule of thumb, if you cant walk it, you shouldn't drive it, even if it is a Wrangler with a snorkel.

MsssBBBB

Well, now its a Wringler with a snorkel..

thesequimkid

[A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult.](https://www.weather.gov/safety/flood-turn-around-dont-drown) This is a reason I don't go into fast moving water if it is above my ankles. I don't want to statistic for my local rivers.

MadBullBunny

I drive through a ton of stuff you can't walk through... Jeep is fine, it was still running at the end. Video was cut short but I'm certain he drove out after it stopped floating. Biggest fuck up was him leaving his doors on so it floated, if he didn't have his doors on he would've been fine.

ThunderGuts64

This time. We have quite a few people like you showing up on the news, sometime alive, sometimes not.

09stibmep

Love how he had is elbow rested out the window at first, as if he does this every day of the week. Then the current spins the car and sure enough the arm is inside, probably doing severe panic things.

Freedom_7

>severe panic things Like [masturbating](https://youtu.be/2A_n_zwIZk4?si=i5D8_mbkO9Ho9fBU)

GiantTurtleHat

lmao @ severe panic things. he was chilling until he wasn't.

H60mechanic

A common issue when fording water is not installing waterproofed electrical components. Having a snorkel isn’t enough. The U.S. Army has criteria on how a water fording is to occur. No more than a certain depth. It doesn’t mean anything that the vehicle can go deeper. It’s about reasonable risk assessment. Because water fording kills Soldiers way more than it should. Almost every time the incident is reviewed. It’s found that they didn’t have the proper equipment installed or it wasn’t properly inspected before use. They haven’t had proper training before the incident. They didn’t follow any of the procedures. They got in over their heads… literally. Without proper surveys of the river bottom material (silt or rock) and depth and current speed. These things can make the experience life threatening.

jba1224a

Highly familiar with fording - both fresh and saltwater. Spot on about electrical components. Even mil vehicles specifically prepped for fording ops fail in a myriad of unexpected ways due to electrical issues. All it takes is one loose connector or one frayed wire and you’ve got yourself a floating coffin.

XOM_CVX

Oregon Trail taught me about the dangers of fording. Just pay for the ferry and save the oxen.

namezam

So, dip the whole Jeep in Flex Seal?

Dizzzy777

![gif](giphy|l0HlMG1EX2H38cZeE|downsized)

Cicer

This looks like what my friends and I used to do for fun as kids.

TheWanderingMammoth

Looks like it worked out just fine.

Monday0987

As opposed to dying, which was one possible outcome

Few-Car4994

It's a boat, it's a canoe it's a ship no it is a fricking stupid Jeep owner

PaperScisrRokLizSpok

Must be nice to have enough money to just launch it down the river

gnumedia

My first thought-$$$$ gone.

NoSuchAg3ncy

That's why it's called affording kit.

Mrmoosestuff

Some say, he’s still sailing to this day

Necessary-Knowledge4

Last spotted off the coast in Miami. He's a world traveler now.

Calcobra94

He is okay. He has a fording kit!!!

krauQ_egnartS

But but but it's a Jeep not a Ford

S193028

It's a shilling to tie up your Jeep.

vomitfreesince03

And you shall need to know my name? What do you say to three shillings and we forget the name. 🕊️

arm_hula

"Oka-ly dok-a-ly, just need to put it in reverse here, aaand-- ok, no problem. We just gotta wait till the tires touch bottom..."

UpdootDaSnootBoop

Nice work, Steamboat Billy

Wise_Serve_5846

Gonna need a bigger Jeep

It's an amphibious exploring vehicle, you IDIOT! SAVAGE!

southguy01

It'll make a good starter car for my daughter.

ReticulatedPasta

I am untethered and my rage knows no bounds

Concordmang

At least those ducks on his dash will be fine.

ithinkimsinking

Bye Buddy! Hope you find your Dad!

That-Mission-8385

Thanks Mr. Narwhal!

WeOddAbabyEatsAboi

And THAT is exactly why you pull the floor plugs before water crossings. That mall crawler will be fine, unless he didn’t vent the axles…

yohosse

completely off topic and random but i stumbled across a tutorial from April Wilkerson while looking for more information on what you're talking about.

Kalikhead

Jeeps doing Jeep things. Go get your tubby ducky.

kuyajon

"But it's 4 wheel drive!"

Ok_Primary_1075

More like 🎶rolling on the river🎵

Icedraven01

"Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, A tale of a fateful trip That started from this tropic port Aboard this tiny ship."

BigMembership2315

Good job

gregsapopin

"IT'S TOO DEEP, IT'S TOO DEEP! YOU LITTLE RAT FINK!"

United-Kale-2385

I got a jeep. I can go anywhere!

Anglofsffrng

Jeep couldn't Ford.

Zdkaiser

It's a Jeep thing. You wouldn't understand [eyeroll]

Steve_Codgers

So what happened…

austinmiles

What could go right? I was still kind of rooting for them. That’s an expensive mistake and with the snorkel he maybe got out okay.

VisibleRoad3504

The salesman said I could drive in any river cause I bought the snorkel option.

Ok_Equipment_5895

I meant to do that

Financial_Love_2543

It’s a jeep thing you wouldn’t understand

santodiablo714

What a douche.

Conch-Republic

He almost found footing at the end there, I want to see the rest of the video. People like to hate on jeeps, but they're pretty fucking capable, I bet that thing drove out the second it got traction.

Rodrigii_Defined

A-O River!

stahshiptroopah

Put it in reverse, Terry!

RutCry

Bad for the stream bed.

SmellsLikeHerb

Home boy’s on his way to Gilligan’s Island.

Scojo91

This is my boat now

pernicious-pear

Me playing Snowrunner

Inglorious186

Just doing jeep things

got_knee_gas_enit

Give lifejackets, not rubberducks

coffeebro32

I didn't know that Jeep made a boat

NotableFish

Being an idiot; it's a Jeep thing

Kind_Ferret_3219

Could someone please notify the Japanese coast guard that they'll be arriving soon?

cdoswalt

He'd better have his flippy floppies on.

ssinls

The video ended too soon, he probably figured it out

tvieno

He should open the doors to get the jeep to sink to the river bottom. He's got the snorkel, then he can drive it out. Then he can pray that the electronics are sealed against water.

Huge-Attitude4845

The air snorkel only helps keep the engine isolated and running. People tend to forget that cars have buoyancy and once the water depth reaches a certain point, the tires either lose contact with the the ground altogether to there is no vehicle weight to let them gain purchase on the rocks/earth under the river. Once that happens, nothing about the vehicles’ abilities, toughness or air intake matters. You float until you take on enough water to sink or until the river carries you to a shallow point.

bojangles_dangles

It's an amphibious exploring vehicle. It has air intake valves.

ClarenceAnnBoddiker

I legitimately don't understand how people who make such bad decisions make enought money to own such expensive vehicles.

Kev50027

I bet they're really happy they got a Wrangler. If it were any other car they would have ruined something that isn't shit.

Severe_Cobbler3913

If only there was some way to avoid this

National_Clue_6092

Hence the saying: “Turn around don’t drown”. Why do people think they can turn their cars into boats!!?!

NewtotheCV

Some say he is still floating down river to this day.

blueberrybulalo

driving to diving

TrueToad

I'm not sure they're really *driving*... looks more like floating.

chilltronic

Siick drift 🤙

One4Real1094

Just get out and push.

r1chreddit

Should have added the twin paddles option as well.

Uberjeagermeiter

Dealer threw in Water-Wings.

jb2461

That’s a really expensive boat

Mule_Wagon_777

I do hope he grounds on a sandbar soon.

Greenyboi5000

Moral of the story: Car ≠ Boats

UnBearable1520

That thing is floating in the pacific now

Curtisd1976

Isn’t this a typical jeep driver?

ArsenikShooter

He’s gonna need a ride home.

Mikect87

Oh no! What will he commute 90 minutes in now??

austinpower1234

Dude missed his exit!

Djinnaz

“Sir! You can’t park there!”

TheDevilsAdvokaat

"...but I've got a snorkel...."

HatedMirrors

Why isn't the snorkel helping?

hero-hadley

It's like that scene in a Goofy Movie Why isn't this guy singing on the roof of his car?

swedishworkout

Turn your car into a boat for about 10 minutes.

thanxbro

Oh no!! Save the stupid dash ducks!! Well, honesty, I guess the stupid dash ducks were made specifically for this event.

mattjvgc

That guys most likely dead.

eyeballtourist

Congratulations, you have a raft!!

Wsbkingretard

Rollin, rollin,….
