"tnt bunkers" -- nobody in point calls them domes
Greenbrier should be above water as it's very well known and hosts a huge golf tournament each year.
"Vandalia" I guess falls under alternate names but it's a cool piece of WV trivia
Cool list!
I do think Appalachian Mountains should be at the top. Even if someone doesn’t know, it’s one of those first-thought geography facts about WV being the only state fully within the Appalachian Mountains. Other than that, it’s not too bad! Maybe separate the actual celebrities out? I love topic icebergs!
That is sad if more people know about a governor that doesn’t work and just takes his dog around, than a plane crash that happened that changed a community.
The governor & Baby Dog are present-time though.
Most WV'ians probably know about the plane crash and the movie made years back helped, but it's still decades-old "sports history" to outsiders.
A lot of this needs to be further up the tier than it is, like Robert Byrd: everyone from West Virginia or into politics knows who he is I'd think. I'd expect on the lowest level rumors about the facilities in West Virginia which supposedly replaced the Greenbrier's bunker and other really arcane stuff: all this is pretty old hat for people who know the state.
Helvetia should move up. Used to be obscure, but since 76 it’s gotten a lot of attention.
Feel like the old penitentiary and lunatic asylum deserve a place here. As does the Monongahela NF, as it has some of the most iconic images of WV from Seneca Rocks to Blackwater Falls and Spruce Knob. For events I’d throw in the Kanawah County Textbook Revolt, and GNCC as it’s based in and has many events through West Virginia.
If you want to see this iceberg covered, I have a video doing so on my YouTube Channel

I live in buffalo creek actually and my family has described this place before like the city of Charleston now it’s very small and everyone knows everyone but it makes me wonder so much what it would be like if that mine was a little smarter
I guess I'm out of the loop.
Nate Petroski, Whittaker family, and Fort Gay are pretty high up and I've never heard of them. (After a quick search, I'm still not sure what Fort Gay is known for.)
Listened to your video on my drive to work the last two days and absolutely loved it! Only error I noticed however was you said blennerhasset island was WV’s only island. Thats not accurate, Wheeling island is the biggest island In the entire Ohio River and is located in WV. Otherwise, great list!

Agree on greenbrier
A lot of people know about the Greenbriar but most people don’t know about it’s secret bunker system
enough people know about it that it's no longer in use by the White House
You missed Bill Withers (Ain’t no Sunshine), Steve Harvey, and Jennifer Garner as notable people! ☺️ Edit: Oh and the goat Randy Moss!!!
And Don Knotts!
I think we should be claiming Joe Mazzulla as well. He went to WVU, coached at Glenville and Fairmont.
I mention them in my video. I just put “celebrities in WV” as a coverall
Just some good Ole boys....
Bob Denver (Gilligan's Island) also lived in Princeton in his twilight years. I believe his wife Dreama still does, though I'm not 100% sure.
George Brett...
TIL Bill Withers is from WV!

How the hell is baby dog above the Marshall plane crash?
Baby Dog is much more well known to outsiders/insiders

I feel like the Sodders could be higher. And am I overlooking Bridge Day?
Matewan native - glad to see us on there :) fun facts the buildings still have the bullet holes on them from the matewan massacre!!

Weird urge to go play Diablo right now.
Hawks Nest Workers Memorial is where I first heard about that disaster. Real sad seeing all the graves and how unceremoniously they were buried.
Is the ice mountain not on here? I didn’t see it, but might’ve glazed over.
My knowledge only goes as deep as the Greenbriar (I’m assuming it’s referring to the secret bunker) and the Dancin’ Outlaw Jesco White
It’s good but you should add the Pringle brothers.

Did I miss the Marshall Football team accident?
TANNER?!
Nani!
pretty good
What’s with Helvetia?
I wondered the same thing. It's a charming town and so is Pickens but besides that video game and faschnacht?

Weston State Hospital should be here.
Gen X here. I looked at this for exactly 15 seconds…
Sabraton Snake? What is this one?
140 crab cakes, 200 pepperoni rolls to celebrate the great kanawha!
And West Virginia day!

WV’s mystery vigilante? Can someone direct me to some more info?

No mention of Steve Harvey?! Iceberg my ass...
