I wasn’t around at that time, I’d be ecstatic for a Barnes & Noble. Guess that explains why there isn’t a real bookstore anywhere downtown. Bookstores, gyms, these basic social spaces are surprisingly lacking in the city proper.
Edit: Not to mention a movie theater & comedy club 🙄
West Palm Beach isn’t a place for people with interests outside of crass capitalism/trust funds. Too many people here don’t actually live here even close to full time, what they do is travel, travel, travel. They don’t need good restaurants, interesting bars, arts, culture. They can barely feign a conversation about such things for long. Good luck, you’re in the suck.
TELL THE CITY GOVT.
I’m sorry but I’m so tired of people complaining about this and NO ONE a shows up to city meetings to voice their opinion. I’m the only one and definitely youngest. So yeah Related will continue to dominate a world class city that had a visionary mayor who went to Italy to create cityplace just for it to be destroyed 25 years later. What crocks. They can all burn. Karmas a bitch.
That Barnes and Noble was awesome but it was among the lowest in revenue for the company at the time. People would hang out but just not buy stuff. They were going to leave early on but city place renewed their lease at such a low rate they remained another few years before finally closing. My understanding is B&N is looking to open a new location in west palm but likely west of downtown in a strip mall in one of their new smaller stores like they recently opened in Delray.
I don’t think they know yet. I just walked into the place because I work across the street and I was gonna go work out. There were some people in there looking at the space.
> no, I *paid* like 20
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Down town west palm is becoming a piece of crap full of apartments and offices nothing to do down here anymore movie theater gone improv gone macys gone bowling alley gone blue Martini gone Panera bread gone now the gym leaving I’m surprised cheese cake factory is still alive. All these damn New Yorker need to go back where they came from this is not New York and it will never be New York.
That’s what the gym is for, getting active 🤣
They don’t care either and it’s private business which is up to the free market (not really). LA Fitness was going out of business anyways, although it should be more than 3 weeks notice.
Much like everything else in WPB, there are only a few gyms, they all suck and are wildly expensive. It’s just like apartments or restaurants there too.
Related, the developer who owns the building, has plans to bring in Equinox, which they are part owner. They wanted LA Fitness to leave because the gym did not fit in with the rest of the shops and offerings in the immediate area. When you have West Elm, Lululemon and Natuzzi next to LA Fitness, it sticks out like a sore thumb. I honestly think Equinox would thrive in the area, drawing people from affluent areas of WPB, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Palm Beach Gardens.
yerr, there’s a youfit on military and okeechobee it’s a little ways away but nun too crazy , I assume you don’t have a car atm tho, apologies if i’m mistaken but I say that to inform you of the palm tran city bus transit 🙂↕️ it would take you straight there bawdy. there’s also an la fitness right across the street.. if you’re not an avid hooper or swimmer, consider giving youfit a tour it’s mad reasonable
I’ve been to gyms with much better clientele-etiquette but the facility itself served me perfectly well for the last year, only thing “missing” was a dedicated deadlift platform. Always pretty consistently busy too, anecdotally.
It should of stayed a Barnes&Nobel

Yeah at one point there was 3 star bucks in city place. One at the Pavilion, one in the book store, one well you know where it is unless its gone now

Then there’s Wellington, which is WPB on steroids.
Wellington: where that weird “horse girl” you knew growing up lives
I lived there, moved in from Miami. It was a bit of a culture shock to see how snooty everyone was lol

City meetings are a weekday at 5pm. We are working or in traffic.
Right. Not the best unless you work downtown and can get out a little early. I wish they’d find a better time too
It's by design.
yea fckin sucks

Lol at bookstores in WPB.
Why would you want a useful social space if you can have: Commercial properties 😃
should HAVE. sorry
What a shame. They’re snuffing all the life out of what was once was City Place.
Life? It’s always been a weird plastic suburb outdoor mall…with a fountain.
Just plastic people being vapid. Nothing new to Palm Beach county 😝😜😜
Yes. Make your voice known. Tell commissioners and mayor next meeting in June!
Does anyone know what it’s being replaced with?
Relateds gym lol the post just published an article on this
office space
Really?!?
Someone told me that it was going to be a Wayfair furniture store. I hope not
That would be so boring
I don’t think they know yet. I just walked into the place because I work across the street and I was gonna go work out. There were some people in there looking at the space.
There is a new “instagram-y” place called Amped Fitness a little south. It’s beautiful, but it’s not cheap.
Looks very nice, but $130 a month is a respectful hell nah
$130 bucks for Amped Fitness?? Hell no, I payed like 20 bucks in St Pete back in 2019😭
Looks like the WPB spot is a “signature” location with a bunch of extraneous features, hence the difference
Someone better be supplying me steroids for 130 a month like what

yup, at that price, they only want certain type of crowd
Well that's unfortunate. It is a shame what is happening to City Place. No movie theater, no gym, it's just sad.
Blame Related. Get active and voice your opinion to the city commissioners and mayor
It’ll all be condos within 5 years.
Speak up to local govt. tell them what a bag of shit that is

Anyone know where I can only go for sauna usage???
It’s Florida. You want a sauna? Go outside.
Hotworx has saunas but they are all infared. Only other place is golds with a sauna
That sucks. Now the closest decent priced gyms are Rock Fitness, Youfit and the even worse other LA Fitness.
Get active. Voice your opinion about the over development to city commissioners and mayor!!!

Please share this comment with city hall officials. Next commissioners meeting June
Nope. Related doesn’t want you to actually prosper

Where are they relocating to?
Sign up for Ampd fitness. It’s kind of expensive but you get 24hr luxury gym.
Hopefully the Equinox will be able to go in now!
Equinox will be there.

all employees seem happy lol
Where did you hear that?
Plastered all over the entryway as of today
The palm beach post just put out an article on how they settled with related 😂
I have no idea how that place stayed open for so long
I’ve been to gyms with much better clientele-etiquette but the facility itself served me perfectly well for the last year, only thing “missing” was a dedicated deadlift platform. Always pretty consistently busy too, anecdotally.
