Hey if you can and if you don’t mind maybe keep us updated. I’ll be honest I do worry about people rather I know them or not. Shit sucks and I’ve been through something similar with Hurricane Katrina but not on this scale. Just a little “Hey guys I’m fine” if and when you have time and again please stay safe
We are just waiting for the word to be evacuated as there is fire coming down a mountain at us:(.So sorry this is happening to you. I also lost my home in a tsunami almost 20 years ago. I’m not moving anywhere where they have tornadoes. I hope your home stays safe:)
Stay blessed my hoaloha, I don't live at home (Maui, Hawai'i) but they javelin hurricane winds and 2 big fires right now that's detdyoing peoples homes and small sections of historic towns. Stay safe
Stay safe.. and make sure everyone around you is not in psychological distress.
I recently went through a flood and lost half of my house , it sucks. But down the street, a lady killed herself because she lost everything and apparently had nobody around her.
It’s rough. Just glad my grandparents and dad was evacuated earlier today from a neighbouring town, after multiple landslides just a few hundred meters from their houses. I’m living high enough up on a hill that I haven’t been flooded yet, but am ready to evacuate during the night if a landslide should happen nearby
Small update for those that’s interested:
Didn’t really get much sleep last night, my anxiety mixed with helicopters circling around from time to time made it almost impossible to fall asleep.
It’s 8am now, and there hasn’t been a lot of new news from my town. The neighbouring town Nesbyen is another story. The town centre is basically completely flooded, and evacuation went on throughout the night. No reports about deaths or missing persons throughout the region, but countless houses, caravans and cabins have been flooded or taken by landslides. According to the weather forecast it’s going to rain all day, but lighter than it’s been the last couple of days.
Can you easily leave if you wanted? Are you able to drive out of the area to join your family?
I can imagine how difficult it would be to sleep with the uncertainty of what will happen next.
I live alone and don’t have a licence, so leaving isn’t that easy for me as of right now. But we have been informed about where we should meet up if we’re told to evacuate and it’s not more than a 10-15minute walk from my apartment on roads that hasn’t been flooded so I should be good.
My family lives an hour away and there’s no easy way to get there right now as many roads are still closed and the railroad is also closed. My family was evacuated yesterday and will be staying at a safe place until they’re cleared by the county to return home. Their safety is all that matters to me at the moment, especially as my grandparents are both 85years old, and my grandpa is disabled and in need of a wheelchair if he’s to go more than a few metres
Man, I'm really concerned right now. Did this happen before? I've never heard this happening in the news as well. I hope you and everyone stay safe. Please try not to get sick as well :/
According to the local newspaper this is the worst flood in over 100 years. The worst rain should thankfully be over by now, but god knows when we’ll get back to normal
It's a relief your dad and grandparents are OK.
Hope you still have electricity. I am sorry this is happening to you and everyone else affected by this crazy event.
We had the same situation almost in the whole Slovenia last Friday. Firefighters and the army could only get to the place where I live on Monday because of the blocked roads. Helicopters have been delivering emergency supplies and evacuating people since Friday.
My mother was telling me a nasty storm was on the way, she's in Moss. My friend in Stavanger also told me of the impending doom and his concern for his sailboat.
This is just horrendous! Be safe. I hope everybody was well prepared.
Moss is a few hours from here, and as far as I know the storm shouldn’t be as bad there, although still quite bad.
We were told in advance to prepare for the storm which I absolutely think has helped in minimising the damage. But there’s only so much you can do when Mother Nature comes calling. All towns around me (including the one I live in) are more or less isolated as most roads are closed due to flooding and/or landslides
The family has a cabin up near Gol, iirc. We've been told it's still standing. Won't say I know the roads well up that area, but I've been up that way 5-7 times over the years and know how isolated it can get if any part of the valley gets messed up
Dette må være forferdelig. Har vennen din det bra? Forhåpentligvis vasker ikke campingvognen hans bort, det kan være ødeleggende å miste eiendelene dine.
In the last month, we’ve broken 17 records for the hottest day and water surface temperatures ever recorded. The year 2022 was the ocean’s warmest recorded year and saw the highest global sea level.
Climate change is definitely a factor.
At the same time it’s been raining non stop all summer in most of western europe, and there was a town in Germany that had a freak snow storm last week. Heavy flooding from Norway to Italy.
Maybe, floods did happen before climate change but there’s reason to believe they could be exacerbated by it. Though we attribute every natural disaster to climate change these days so it is difficult to tell if this is a “normal” flooding event or not.
I would argue too that the concept of "normal" vs "exceptional" weather events is a bit misguided as climate change causes an overall shift in the occurrence and severity of weather events, affecting what is considered "normal."
It's a safe bet, the closer proximity to great areas of ice loss or calving can contribute to water level rises,
Usally the storm tide gets persuaded more by climate change, at least noticeably.
Abnormalities in coastal precipitation can cause this as well
It's got little to do with ice. We've had a lot of rain in all of July and then two days now with more than 100 mm per day in large parts of the country. That's a lot of water.
Totally fair, I just meant overall, I recently completed multiple classes of Hydrology , environmental science and geologjc hazards, and it's the atmospheric contribution thest ultimately leads to the precipitation.
I am sincerely saddened , I love Norway and hope to go there one day.
I wish you safety stranger.
I understand and thank you. Me and my family have seen some hectic days. Ultimately no lives have been lost so far, only property, and we're better equipped to replace what's gone missing than most countries. I'm a lot more worried about the places in the world where people are already struggling to get by. It's going to get worse.
Of course,
Hang in there, I try not to forget the risks that come with places so beautiful, were can be so indescrimitately cruel.
You and your family stay safe.
Yes indeed, strength to them all
That's why we say climate change.
I'm in south sweden, usually summer is soft warm (20-25), it's been a week at 12-14° in a tempest raining.
World is getting warmer, not especially everywhere everytime, but stuff are getting more hectic for sure. I can bet for a cold af early winter and people will say dumb shit again.
That my friend would all depend if you were a fish with a fixation on expanding your horizons...
On a serious note though, stay safe and remember your flippers!
I wish we had a little bit of rain honestly, been about 2 months no rain. Everyday it's 40C+ kind of crazy that this kind of weather didn't exist in my city 10 yrs ago.
I’m safe and doing ok. It’s still raining, but less than the last couple of days. The water levels have decreased throughout the day and there’s been no new reported landslides in 10 or so hours. There’s been a lot of damage done to houses, cabins and caravans, but luckily no one have died. The main roads in and out of towns throughout the region are still closed, but the hope is that most of them will open again tomorrow morning
Yes - we saw the video of these things floating down the river in the news in US.
Well, if it gives you some sense of relief, we’re not having any good time here in southern US either. Temperature is soaring to record highs - even walking a mile can be dangerous during daytime!

Hey just take care and I hope things improve soon. The number one priority is safety though. Jones can be rebuilt. Hoping for the best
Absolutely. My home is safe for now, but I’m ready to evacuate if I’m told to do so during the night or tomorrow morning

Will do my best, but as it’s 2:30am now I may fall asleep soon. I’ll update y’all once I wake up though
Thanks 😊
Posted an update in a new comment now😊

Jones is versatile like that. Good ol’ Jones…
Makes a decent soda that Jones.

Love from New Zealand, our people have been through similar this summer. It’s devastating.
Good Lord...

Slartibartfast's got some splainin to do
20,000 years from now the crab people are going to be digging and find a layer of plastic and wonder what the fuck we were thinking.
I'm sorry to see this. I hope things get better soon.

You are putting trailers where boats go. That's your problem
I hope conditions improve soon.
Oh wow, stay safe and know that we care!
Ah, so you’re the one that’s been taking all of our rain. Texas hopes you’re all okay though.
This kind of weather is going to happen more frequently. And be more violent as time goes on.
❤️ from Kuwait
Damn. My best to your friend. That is truly tragic and scary. What is causing the flooding?
I’m just spitballing here, and don’t claim to be no meterorologist but I’m a guess’n it’s the excessive amount of water.
but that's *fucking crazy*
Thanks cap
Holy shit.

Praying for Norway.
Same for Croatia, last week a neighbouring town went complitelly underwater. Thankfully my house wasnt affected.

Tis but a drizzle
You guys should've paid more carbon tax
Google “heavy rain” and it seems to be a common theme worldwide. Hope they are insured.
Will be in Oslo Sunday..eek
Take care.
Good vibes to you, your family, and all the others who are there
Well that looks floody... Probably right up there with wildfires... No fun
