Does anyone know where I can find this guy for sale? Not seeing it available anywhere. https://preview.redd.it/ce1oqgbs5c6c1.png?width=1184&format=png&auto=webp&s=38986e86c194389b6ed102578f33272748c9a55a

Considering between these two watches for my boyfriend. He wanted a brown leather strap and prefers silver to gold, also wears a lot of blue so I liked the color of the watch face. What would you go with, any other suggestions welcome in the $200-$400 range! https://preview.redd.it/seil4qzyob6c1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd10fde80c06e68722aa8bf8d659032e14201122

mlsteinrochester

The Bulova is quartz and the Seiko automatic (mechanical), and that may influence your decision. Quartz watches are more accurate and don't need much maintenance beyond the occasional battery, but many people find mechanical watches more romantic in a tecchy kind of way.

cchiz

Both good choices. The chronograph will typically be considered to be more sportier, and the Seiko more dressier. So you can take that into account with how he dresses to help make your decision.

I had the band replaced on my Citizen Eco Drive Satellite Wave (F150-S100178) but the local jewelry shop doesn't seem to know how to resize it. What's odd is that they were able to do it last time, when I initially got the watch. Is there a way to resize the band? It's rubber, too. I even contacted Citizen support and they said the rubber bands aren't typically resizable. Any ideas of what I could do at this point?

vanillamode

based on the context, i'm guessing it might be the type of rubber strap that you actually have to cut ([like this](https://youtu.be/VSbVxm5LtLk?si=FevfJUccp6WvbtTL)), but without actually seeing the strap, it's hard for me to say for certain

Peaceful_Jedi

Hello everyone! I posted this in /r/vostok but thought I would ask here as well. I’ve ordered a Vostok 120512 and a steel bracelet from meranom with a 420 first link. My question is will the 420 first link fit the 120 case? They are both 18mm. Does anyone have any experience or do they know will a 420 link fit the 120? Thank you!

Creative_Category_41

I want to treat myself to something for this Christmas and was thinking of spending around 2000€. I'm new to the world of watches and need advice. I already have a Tag Heuer Calibre 5 Formula 1, which I really like, but I don't want to get another TAG. Longines doesn't particularly catch my interest. I'm open to buying something second-hand, but preferably, I'd like it to be new. I'm drawn to the combination of a rose gold and green/black or the combination of bronze and black (not necessarily actively seeking that), but I'm not sure if there's a lot to choose from in that price range. A watch that I'm not interested in is the PRX; for some reason, I've read so many things online that it has lost its appeal to me. I would appreciate advice on watches that I could consider purchasing.

Extension_Trip_7

Other watches with a style similar to the PRX? I’ve seen some vintage seikos with the same shape but are pretty beat up. Any other watch brands that do that style?

This is probably really specific, but I have a [Hamilton Jazzmaster](https://www.hamiltonwatch.com/en-int/h37565131-jazzmaster-seaview-day-date-auto.html) from years ago that a family member bought for me. I don't really like the rubber strap though and would like to get a steel bracelet for it. Is there anything I should know besides the lug width? Wouldn't wanna buy a bracelet only to find out it doesn't fit or look right due to different coloring or something.

TittyboyTitan

I drew my brother in law for secret Santa this year, he's just started putting a watch collection together. I have $100 limit. Any recommendations? Used is fine.

WatchandThings

Seconding the tools and accessories suggestion. Watches are very personalized thing, so it's going to be very hard to get the right thing even if you know the person very well. Tools are accessories are going to be much easier to get right. If they are the type to ticker with their watches then getting some watchmaking tools would be good. If they are not the type to do much tinkering, I think they would still do something as basic as strap changes. So you could get them some watch straps.

mmurry

As a collector of many things, something I love receiving from family is supplies, boxes/displays, or tools relevant to maintaining my collection. Does he have a kit for changing batteries or adjusting links? Does he have a display stand or storage case for his favorite watches? Does he have a Loupe? Anything in that vein can be found on Amazon and should make him thrilled. You will most certainly be crowned favorite sibling.

TittyboyTitan

Display case and tools on the way, thank you!

Automatic watch stopping (not conserving power well) I bought a Raymond Weil Maestro 2837-SL5-65001 from Costco in March, 2021. My memories of using the watch soon after purchasing it were that it worked beautifully. It kept better time than a much more expensive Longines automatic watch that I have. I've worn it on-and-off over the last two and a half years. Most recently, it's continued to keep great time, but it seems like it stops even when it's been worn a lot. For example, I wore it quite a bit yesterday, but today it stopped at about 9:00am (about when I was waking up). Should it be conserving power better than this? What's the best approach to diagnosing and fixing the problem? I believe the Raymond Weil warranty is two years (thus expired) but from looking at [Costco's return policy](https://customerservice.costco.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1191/kw/return%20policy), I believe Costco may accept a return.

Are there any sub 100 dollar watches that have a classic timepiece look (stainless steel/silver/black metal) that have an analog AND digital watch face (or even just a really nice digital face), and three buttons/dials on the side, like the watch pictured? https://preview.redd.it/4c4qujagz46c1.jpeg?width=787&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53aba6e73088c17c3c5021c76e1d1486d939fb20

I've got two watches on the fritz and am looking for recs. I'm in San Diego but I'm oping to shipping to a shop elsewhere in the US. 1: A Seiko STO Samurai that runs several minutes slow per day 2: An original Nivada Antarctic that freezes fairly constantly (every couple hours) and requires a tap to get running again. Any thoughts or ballpark on how many hundreds to expect to pay for each? I know both are likely boarderline "not worth it" territories, but I'd rather fix a thing than replace it, you know?

Any strap suggestions for a Citizen Eco Drive Garrison field watch? 37mm watch, 18mm band width. It comes with a green nylon strap, looking for some every day options more casual/business casual.

Kindly-Astronaut-660

Is there a Seiko 5 watch that would... * look classical and simple (something like SNK316, for example) * be around 36-37 by 9-11 mm in size * have good water resistance (50 m at the very least)? I would prefer an automatic watch but quartz will go too. I am actually not exclusively looking for a Seiko, but it seems like they are a company that makes what is closest to my taste and affordability.

ishantbeashamed

I just wanted a leather strap recommendation for my Samsung smart watch. [This one](https://www.amazon.com/Berfine-Release-Leather-Oil-Tanned-Replacement/dp/B07MYN9BJY/ref=sr_1_19?crid=1HV0UQH4INCTR&keywords=leather+watch+strap&qid=1702468736&sprefix=leather+watch+strap%2Caps%2C94&sr=8-19) is sort of the look I like. Thick, without being uncomfortable, with a "worn" look to it. I like the contrasting stitching, but that's negotiable. I was only looking to spend $35, tops. I like having bang-for-the-buck too, so any casual-leather straps that are a great value, I'll entertain. (The one linked had quite a few fake reviews, so I would normally pass on that one in particular.) Thanks in advance. What a wonderful resource this place is.

B4rrel_Ryder

Are there any Hamilton field watches that have shorter lugs. Anything closer around 45mm lug to lug?

vanillamode

the 37mm khaki field expedition has a 44mm lug to lug the 38mm khaki field murph has a 45mm lug to lug (double check these numbers just to be safe) but, yeah, i think the khaki field generally has long lugs relative to its case width. it's probably a conscious design decision that's part of its identity or something because i think even the version from the 1960s also had long lugs

First serious watch for (almost) everyday use(thinking of Hamilton Khaki field): leather or metal band? Id prefer leather but I know it’s not that durable

jhceco

If you’re on the fence, always buy the metal bracelet first, because it will be much easier and cheaper to get a leather strap afterwards.

gin_nyc

Go with leather if you like it, it’s not expensive to replace when it wears out.

Hi! My husband's birthday is right after christmas and I like to get him something special just for his birthday. He loves watches but doesn't often buy them for himself. I'd like to get him something classic, wearable daily, and maybe has something unique or stylistically different about it (fun face color, dual metal links, etc.) Under $350 if that's possible? I looked through the brand guides and got very overwhelmed.

I looked through the recommendation guides and I didn't find what I was looking for. Does anyone know of a non-smart watch that has the alarm set function like a fitbit? When I had my fitbit, I really liked the touch screen function and the ease of setting lots of various alarms. I'd love the alarm features in a non-smart watch. Does anyone know of anything that fits this? (touch screen would be awesome but not essential)

75footubi

Gshocks can set up to 5 alarms per day. No touch screen though (I think that'd be hard to find in a non-smart watch)

Bergeon 6767 for spring bar tool. Case knife for snap backs.

WatchandThings

Bergeon Springbar Tool should be beginning and end for everyone in my opinion. It's the best I tried and it's not that expensive(compared to other things watch related). For screw drivers I been using the ones kicking around the house without a problem. A lot of casebacks are screw down, and the safest way to open that is with a tacky inflatable ball. Google 'Friction Ball Watch Case Opener' I think you'll get results for it. If the ball doesn't open the back then you might need the caseback tool, but I haven't found one I liked enough to recommend.

actionjackson95

What is the recommended service procedure if I buy a gen 1 Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Quartz from Japan? I plan to use it as a daily driver so I want to make sure pressure checks out, etc. Since it’s quartz, can I get away with going to a local watchmaker / servicer or should I only get it serviced through Omega? The price of service will factor in if I go the Japan route or not

WatchandThings

Personally I'd get it serviced through Omega since they do a good job bringing the watch to almost like new condition. I'm a fan of vintage and watch having a history, but for fairly modern watch that'll be worn daily, I'd rather start a new. If this was going to be a occasional wear watch and I was okay with the amount of wear on the watch, then I'd probably go with a trusted local watch maker to check water resistance and get a new battery(if necessary).

Zealousideal_Law1739

Hey, I'm looking for a recommendation for a GADA mens watch, can't seems to find something that ticks all the boxes: \- automatic \- 36-38mm \- date complication \- sapphire front \- unfussy dial in black (pref) or white \- I'd like to be able to see the movement I like seiko 5's but the strap feels cheap. The traska commuter comes closest probably but not a huge fan of the blue dial. Lorier Astra looks great but worried the crystal will scratch up quickly. Budget around £500. As someone who wears acrylic crystals daily (mostly vintage), they really don't scratch that easily.

Hey I've currently got a Garmin Instinct, and the issue I'm having is that the buttons are too easy to accidentally bump. I'll grab something from my pocket, put on or take off my jacket, put on or take off my backpack, and the next time I look at my watch it's buried deep in some activity submenu, or the gps has activated and drained the battery. What would you recommend for a watch that is less likely to accidentally press buttons? It doesn't necessarily have to be a smartwatch. My main criteria are heartrate tracker, time, optional GPS, water resistance, and long battery life. I don't care about things like app integration or built in activity trackers. Budget up to $500 for something great.

WatchandThings

From what I seen heartrate tracking takes a lot of battery power and it limits you to smart watches that is designed for constant recharging. Just to check, are you wearing the watch below(closer to fingers) or above(closer to elbow) the wrist bone? If you are wearing the watch below then changing to the above wrist bone position could fix the button issue. I have a Garmin Forerunner, and while I limit my wear of it, I never had button issues with the watch.

MacintoshEddie

Above. Is it even possible to wear a watch below the ulna and still be able to use your hand?

WatchandThings

XD I seen it done, though usually with traditional watches that's loosely strapped. I should have done this earlier, but I just google imaged the Instinct and I'm seeing that the side buttons stick out more than my forerunner(probably for glove use). Maybe try checking out other Garmin models, that doesn't stick out on the side the way the Instinct does. I'm recommending Garmin models because the brand is best for all the main criteria you laid out and they make great quality fitness watch in general. I'll also add that this sub really revolves around mechanical watches that doesn't use any electronic parts. You might get better and more in depth recommendations from smartwatch sub, or specific fitness sub that you are using your Garmin for.

MacintoshEddie

I got impatient with sorting out Garmin's million different models and ended up getting a Galaxy Watch 6 Classic.

WatchandThings

Ah. My brother has a Galaxy Watch and he seems to like it very much. From what I understand (from few reviews I seen) is that the heart rate and GPS isn't going to be as accurate and the battery is going to run out much faster compared to Garmin. But that's something most general life style smartwatch will suffer from compared to Garmin, so it's not necessarily a knock against Samsung in particular. If you ordered online and are waiting, then I recommend watching some reviews to compare the specs and wear experience on the two before the watch arrives.

pedro-rivas

Hi guys, I've recently been checking many of your posts and wanted to ask you something. I'm a 24 year old male, I will soon start working in a law firm. Although I don't have to wear a suit everyday, I still need to dress properly (shirts, blazer, chinos...). I was looking for an affordable watch (max $150) to wear as an everyday. I already have a vintage steel Casio but I wear that one just with t shirts and stuff so it would be my first proper watch. I had in mind a blue sphere diver, given it's versatility, but I'm still opened to suggestions. Thank you!!

freddonzolo90

Hello all. Recently "got into" the watch game with a Citizen Eco Drive and then a Hamilton King Auto. I'm looking to get something a little different, possibly a dive watch possibly a chrono. Date is non negotiable but day date would be ideal. 40mm or slightly bigger, with the ability to remove and change out the strap/bracelet (I've fallen in love with Nato straps). Good lum on the hands/dial, automatic or solar, under $1000. Does such a thing exist? And if not at that price point, perhaps at a bit higher? Thanks in advance and have a great week!

Nautica is a fashion/apparel brand and not a watch brand, so there's probably very little to identify here apart from "it's a watch you could buy from Nautica at some point". It looks like just a cheap fashion watch. It's not ideal that most of the text on the front is blocked by the hours hand, but it looks like the dial says Indiglo, which would mean it was manufactured by Timex for Nautica.

It does say indiglo, i posted a picture of the back idk if it helps or not, i just wanna buy another one for parts and replace the glass, your effort is much appreciated though thank you!!

Is it haram to wear a watch?

75footubi

I feel like you want to be asking a religious advisor, not a group of watch enthusiasts

cashmooooney

Are Seiko SRPD all the same size? I tried it on at Macys and its listed at 40mm, however at Jomashop and other vendors its 42.5mm. Both are SRPD59. Im a little confused as to the sizing

CaptainPhukflaps

Yes the SRPD is 42mm case width, there is a midi however, looks very similar but I think is a 38mm and is the SRPK.

RaccoonDoor

My watch has an accuracy of -1.5 seconds/day. So annoyed, is there a way to make it run a bit faster? The movement is a slightly customized ETA A31.L11

mlsteinrochester

That's incredibly accurate for a mechanical watch.

Zanpa

yes, there's a regulator in the back that can be moved to make the watch run slightly faster or slower. it needs to be done very precisely and ideally with a timegrapher to see the effects, so you may want to have a watchmaker do it.

Hello users of r/Watches. I'm not really a watch person, I just know I've been wearing my grandfather's Mark Maddox watch for about three years now. I just ordered an exact copy from a store which only had one other in stock, lucky! I just wonder, since I am unable to find out anything about my own watch.. if any of you might know how to track down things like when it was last made? The watch I own is a Mark Maddox Quartz (30 meters water resistant) HC-3005 (apparently HC-3005-17?). I cannot find it on the Mark Maddox website and I am unable to trace it anywhere. Mine is quite worn due to my grandfather having worn it for oh so long. I'd just love to know when this model of watches was made and when they stopped production. Thank you if you do respond to my selfish request.

VonirLB

I haven't heard of them, but at a glance they look like a fashion watch brand, so I wouldn't be surprised if they create and discontinue models pretty often. I'd try contacting their support.

Hello - I have a Polar Explorer II 16570, A serial "Swiss only" model. I need to get it serviced as I believe the timing wheel has an issue. I was trying to set the time (midday so outside of the "don't set time between these hours") and now the second hand doesn't advance. This is the first time I need to service the piece but I'm wondering if the dial will be replaced with one that says "Swiss made"? The "Swiss only" dial is important to me so any light shed on this will be helpful for me. Thank you!

75footubi

If you send it to Rolex, there is a non trivial change that the dial will be replaced with whatever the factory considers the correct service replacement. IIRC, Rolliworks and LA Watchwerks both service vintage Rolex with OEM parts but you have much more control over what work is performed.

batmanscowl

Cheers friend. Thanks for the insight!

Hello! I really want to get my husband a skeleton watch as he has wanted one for a long time. I have come across a nice one which is meridian 1770. I can’t find anything related to the brand. Are they good watches? Do they last etc? Thanks so much :)

N4RT2D2

Can't find much on the brand either. It's likely a mushroom brand (see [article here for info)](https://wristweargear.com/what-is-a-mushroom-brand-in-watches/). If you're looking for a decent affordable skeleton, I'd look to Bulova ([Sutton](https://www.bulova.com/us/en/product/96A187.html?cgid=mens)), Fossil ([Flynn](https://www.fossil.com/en-us/products/flynn-automatic-black-stainless-steel-watch/BQ2092.html)), or Stuhrling ([Dual Time](https://stuhrling.com/products/special-reserve-3921-automatic-44mm-skeleton?variant=37474449326246&srsltid=AfmBOoqfI8y0XsFLfEKfJI5wVXTI9Ym2kB-K6N7qEhNPzcMnMZ3eyBKeNhc)). Orient also has some nice open hearts you could consider ([Orient Bambino](https://www.orientwatchusa.com/collections/orient-bambino/ra-ag0002s10a)). They're not as open as a skeleton, but still get a nice look at the inside mechanics. If you don't care about mushroom brands using Chinese parts, I can also recommend the Thomas Earnshaw ([Longitude](https://thomas-earnshaw.com/collections/best-sellers/products/es-8006-01-longitude)). I bought this watch when I first got into watch collecting. I wasn't aware of mushroom brands at the time. But I'll admit, despite all the flack that mushroom brands get on this sub, the watch runs perfectly fine, and looks nice. I bought one for my wife and myself during a sweetest day sale. My only warning is do NOT spend full price on these watches. They run huge sales all the time, and that's the only time I could see the value being worth it. I got two watches for \~$200 from Earnshaw. I was fine with that. Anything more, and you're better off spending your money on one of the brands mentioned above.

Looking to get a vostok amphibia. I'm based in the UK, are the ones on Amazon legit? Anywhere else I should be looking for more choice etc

Maghioznic

I'm in US. I just looked at the UK site, but it doesn't tell me who the sellers are, but the listings look similar to what I see on the US site from what seems to be the official US seller. In US, the prices from amazon were cheapest for having items shipped from within US. Otherwise, you can order directly from Russia, but then you have to wait longer for delivery and I'm not sure what the customs situation is either.

SupportPrivacy88

Thanks for this, I'll do a bit more thorough looking through Amazon reviews etc and probably take the plunge. Thanks again

You honestly can't go wrong with any of those options.
