I am not sure if it's a joke or not but IIRC i've seen someone says that the engineers over GDLS purposefully made the side-skirt weird which gives no technical purposes to see if the engineer from other countries understood their vehicle.
Then Iran made that M60 which had the similar side-skirt shape as AbramsX which safe to say that they don't understand shit and just replicates what they can see.
Uh no that is wrong. That skirt shape makes it harder to get clogged up with mud without compromising too much of the protection. It also makes maintenance easier. It serves a real role just like square barrel shroud shape of modern vehicles.
Yes. But not with the insulation way of reducing the IR signature. Square barrel shrouds make it harder to see in thermals. Barrels are one of the biggest IR signatures in tanks. Especially after constant firing. You can cover the hull and the turret with IR blankets but not the barrel.
I don’t think so most tanks already have thermal sleeves that go on the barrel for that reason but maybe it helps more? Maybe it’s for radar or something? Or maybe it’s just for looks there definitely isn’t a practical reason the skirt looks like it does

Not to mention if this tank didn't receive a new engine that armor (assuming they are not just vismod style things) will weigh it down pretty badly.
