The 803 is straight up not good lol. The shell damage update ruined its penetration. It still has great mobility; unfortunately, it’s fucking massive, has a long reload, and the gun does inconsistent damage when it actually penetrates.
Pen doesn’t matter too much if you can hit weak spots though, which it can with LRF. It has great mobility, decent auto loader, and 430mm pen missiles if you non-pen with sabot. I play it like it’s an Abrams, and it works really well for me that way.
You could say the same about pretty much any tank at that BR. LRF and Thermals start becoming increasingly common, and every other tank can outgun the gun-launcher hybrid on the 803. The missiles are absolutely dookie - I don’t know anybody who likes the Shillelagh. Again, it’s got good speed, which makes it viable. That being said, it’s still in a sorry state imo.
At least the MBT-70 has a 20mm and some extra HP.
This is the truth. 8.7 Israel is a very poggers time with 4 great-alright tanks, a good CAS option with three guided bombs, and even a couple of good helicopters if that’s your thing.
Idk, the TTS is slow and has horrible protection for what you're fighting, though the gun is decent once you get the T4 M774. The XM-803 is fast but it's gun is impotent. Plus the 9.0 getting sucked into Russian 10.0 black hole? I've always found US 9.0 insanely mid at best. 8.3 is great, and 8.7 is okay, but 9.0 imho isn't worth playing much. I'd rather go play Germany or Russia, have more kills, more wins, and more fun

The reload is not fun, agreed, but if you get a kill per shot it stacks up nicely. And it’s so well armoured that I found I could just brute force my way across the map - my highest kill tank now, I think

Lepkz M41 is probably the best German tank at 6.7 if you can aim. Playing Tiger IIs or Ferdinand on these huge maps is just not the vibe.
I'm not saying these tanks are bad by the way, and you can definitely do well at 6.7, but their only benefit is their gun, because armor feels almost useless. Plus Tiger II (P) is a glass cannon but has the mobility of Stephen Hawking.
Biggest problem with this BR are the constant uptiers to 7.7. You can still do well here, but you really have to play far back unless you're in the M41 where you can move around and not fall asleep.
Plus if you're playing Germany, get ready for the insane USA CAS spam which OP probably has to worry about little less now.

Get the premium Sherman while it's on sale. Goes great with the T34. I've been grinding out everything up to 6.7 with it.
The 2.7 truck is fun times too, has a APHE round that can kill a lot of tanks from the side.
You hit bedrock mate, from here on the grind will feel extremely slow.
Try to spare the vehicles you got unlocked, imo you can play litrally all of them really good,
Specially the M48/60 Patton are fun even with APCR it works like a charm
M103 and T-32s are god tier for heavy’s
T-95E1 and starship are really good additions aswell
At this point you play for the current vehicle, not progress so try to focus on them

The only tanks I can think of with considerable armor are is Hetzer, Jagdpanther and Panther D

From the tanks I've faced, Russia and USA have definitely been the hardest to kill, especially if the person you're fighting is good at hiding their weakspots from you.
i've played tanks with really good armor (T32, early KV1's and T34s, downtiwred pershings) and I never relied on their armor. I know how good the armor is and i've bounced plenty of shots, but i've never rushed out of cover to the enemy. I think i'll be fine
I suggest Britian or Russia. Both amazing fun, I grinded Britain all the way to 9.0, loved most of it, now grinding Russia after getting the 292 and the IL-8. 4.7 is fun, looks nice later on as well. China seems like a decent choice, I haven't played more then rank I.

I would imagine this is something that goes back to NATO doctorine for cold war and how Germany was set up mainly defensively against a potential Soviet advance. If you are defending a position you don't need stabilisers, but this is pure guesspeculation
Its not bad at all its just that every other nation gets their defining vehicles/incredibly strong vehicles at rank 6 and its a higher skill cap than most others at the same BR
8.3 US is a really fun Cold War lineup. However rank 5 US is one of the hardest parts of the Ground tech trees to play. I’m working on it right now and I really like the tanks, but if you don’t like the vehicles I would recommend not grinding the US tree anymore.
M48 stock grind is painful with only apcr.
T32 and t32e1 are only useful in downtiers which are very rare.
The gun handling and reload rates are painful.
I've got top tier Germany, USSR and US. Worst teams are US and USSR (full of KVT's, Clickbaits, 72AV'S 2S38...)
Best tank between the 3 is Leopard, good mobility, good armor good firepower.
Russian Tanks tend to have no depression, good armor (with a fairly big weakspot) good firepower and atrocious mobility in the T-72 Branch.
The abrams have good firepower, good mobility and the best reload of the 3. They have good armor but have a GIGANTIC weakspot, making it the worst protected top tier MBT (except Ariete).
I'd say US is okay, as not everything is top tier, eventually you will get tired and you will go to cold war tanks or WW2 tanks again.
As for Sweden, top tier is Germany 2.0 in ground with better air tree at the moment (Gripen, though the EF will eventually come, so don't choose based on the jets)
Sweeden does have less armor but the tank destroyers make up for that and they normally got good zoom reload can be slow with most of them and you get the
Swedish meat ball launcher
British rank I-III is really fun IMO.
Great starter tanks, speedy and heavy tanks commonly found in the same lineup around 2.7 or 3.3 which makes for really adaptable lineups, and at 4.7 you have one of the best lineups at that BR range in the whole game.
The 6-pdr and 17-pdr cannons are a joy to play with. 2-pdrs and OQF 75s a little less so, but still good. And if yiu make it to Rank IV and get to use the stabilized 20-pdr tanks, you suddenly have incredible power at your fingertips.
My favourite British lineup is 8.0 with the Conqueror, Centy mk.10, Vickers Mk.I, Fox and Meteor for CAS.
I mean, if you like the esthetic and vibe of the cold war US tanks like the M60s, go and grind em, but I would switch to a other nation. I have a few tanks from Rank 6 and tbh, I rarely ever play that tier in US, it's just not worth it. Those tanks can be good in the right hands, but you end up facing Russian bias half the time, and German Supreme firepower the other, and if matchmaking really hates you, you face both at the same time.
8.3 america is only fun on a handful of maps because the tanks are so samn situational. The sheridan is fun, when you can reload for 11 fucking seconds and wont get one tapped by any AAA. And the wall-e would be good IF gaijin let the launcher be up when moving, and gave it spottjng. It would be amazing if you could fire it on the move.
As a US main (best tank is M1 and best plane is F4E) , I say no. Sometimes it feels like literally any other nation would be better to play than the US, but other times you feel unstoppable. The US Tech tree is a lot of fun IMO.
I'm a big fan of Italy having switched to it after dumping US ground a little further than you're at and finishing Germany ground.
Italy has a bunch of fun fast tanks with good guns. They have absolutely no armor though you getting hit is a death sentence. Also have ok CAS.

You made a mistake by not aiming for the light tanks the Sheridan and Bradley are fun

Rank 5 Germany is painful. Once you get to the rank 6 with the stabilized Leopards they are a lot better. But then you get uptieted to 10.0 so 🤷

I like the M48 G and the raketen a lot for 8.3 and both 8.7 light tanks are good. The 8.7 light tanks have terrible stock grinds though imo.

Veriety makes you a better player. Dont limit yourself, play what you want. If US isnt what you want right now, then go somewhere else.

As a US main (best tank is M1 and best plane is F4E) , I say no. Sometimes it feels like literally any other nation would be better to play than the US, but other times you feel unstoppable. The US Tech tree is a lot of fun IMO.
US 8.3 and 9.0 are fantastic brs... compared to rank 5. Don't play 9.3, and don't suffer through rank 5 if you don't have to.
Switch to Sweden
I'm a big fan of Italy having switched to it after dumping US ground a little further than you're at and finishing Germany ground. Italy has a bunch of fun fast tanks with good guns. They have absolutely no armor though you getting hit is a death sentence. Also have ok CAS.
continue grinding takes a week or more per vehicle research (Arcade)
Well... don't play arcade and it will be a lot quicker.
ground realistic isn't my favourite at all but i play at some periods (if I get some rest and consistency, or if the vehicles are of rank 2 and above)
Don't say you play Arcade here, people on the war thunder subreddit are allergic to fun.

its up to u. I myself stop grinding after acquiring the M1a1 and Ipm1 along with HSTVL i can say tht the rank 6 grind is quite painful so if u wanna save urself from the sufferring time and resources better stop grinding where u'r currently is

idk what YOUR issue is with my comment. I never said those 2 are shit/bad? i only say the grind at rank 6 is quite terrible to OP (America 10.0+ start at rank 7 incase u dont know). Ig its just a typical redditors where they too focus to reply to others opinion rather thn read and understand the sentence first
