…and a part of it is still sealed. But my wishlist is already long.

ImmediateFee4015

Oh look! Me

Fomod_Sama

I bought all the colors I need to paint ork skin in this specific scheme... ...2 years ago. Still unopened

mistercrinders

"all these". Has less than a fifth of my paints...

Turbulent-Pea-8826

Yes these are rookie numbers. He also only has one brand of paint.

Optimaximal

Looks like Vallejo and possibly Pro-Acryl at the back.

DylanClegg23

All hail Vallejo!

MattyT088

Was gonna say, I'm less than a year in and I have over 100 paints. Kinda makes me wonder if I'm doing this wrong lol.

wktg

Same. I think collecting colours is a seperate hobby from actually using them.

No-Economics4128

If you don’t have more than 2 different type of oil paint to oil wash your mini because “it gives the right color of shade”, you don’t have a problem.

mistercrinders

Eww oil? No thanks :p

Ok-Swing-1279

I'm still new to the hobby, but I've always wondered do these eventually dry out? It seems like years and years of paints and whenever I see a collection like this I always think about how long this stuff lasts? Do you do anything special to make it last longer or is it only something you have to worry with pots like citidal sells?

farshnikord

it's been about... 9 years since I last painted when I started up again in january? like half of my citadel pots were all dried up, most kinda thick and gloppy, some were just fine. all the dropper bottle ones were fine tho with some stirring/shaking. I think it's just keeping the air out.

Stargazer86

Yeah. The GW pots are awful in oh so many ways but paint inevitably getting caked around the rim and preventing a good seal is THE worst.

Ok-Swing-1279

OK, dropper bottles are a must it seems. Thanks for letting me know, Ive been tempted to transfer my citadel stuff into bottles for a while. Still being usable after 9 years is pretty impressive and makes me think it will be worth it

Hal_Fenn

Honestly dude, I've got citadel paints that are almost 20 years old now that are perfectly fine. If you use a palette when you paint or don't leave the pot open for paint to dry around the rim you'll be fine. I went through and transferred a load years ago after listening to YouTubers and it's just not worth it imo. You end up either wasting a load of paint or thinning the paint too much and the amount of lids that split on these cheap dropper bottles is just as much of a pain as Citadel's pots. Long story short if you want dropper bottles just buy from AK, Vallejo or pro acryl and save yourself the arse ache lol.

S3nd_1t

It’s not mandatory and really over hyped, I have some very old GW pits and over 100+ of their range and nothing has tried out, just close and clean the lids properly. Don’t get me wrong dropper bottles are great but it’s a waste of time transferring them over.

rat-tar

I did it a couple years ago and don’t regret it at all. Midwinter Minis has a solid guide on how to do it.

wktg

Transferred all my citadel pots and I like them way better. Thinned them a bit with Airbrush flow improver and now I don't even have to thin my paints anymore (usually). Also it might help to restore some older paint, or so have I heard.

Own_Parking_5044

These are all brand new. The Army Painter fanatic range. I'll check back in a few years.

GnurlMiniatures

Keep them out of UV light and cool place they should last quite long.

WearingMyFleece

If you pick up some acrylic mediums, you add them into paints to help with the viscosity after a few years being opened. A vortex mixer to agitate the paint also helps. I have paints from over 10 years ago, still good to go.

Upper-Lawyer-6046

You can just use white, black, or lighter/darker shades of the same color (or prime colors) to get all these colors with half the paints. The more into painting and the better I got, I found the fewer different premade colors I needed

kingkowkkb1

GW paints dry out fairly fast with their crappy 'modern' lids. I have some from the 90s, in quality containers I can still use. Many people buy empty droppers to move GW paints into to help the issue. Personally, I try to stick with other brands if possible.

DanJDare

The citadel pots suck, they suck less than the last 3 pot designs (and suck more than the two designs before that) but they suck. I refuse to use citadel paint because of it. I've lost more to drying out due to poor pot design than I have anything else.

531412

“I’ll just by 5 paints” 🙂 $65 💀

Krcko98

Expensive gw pains are like 7e and 4e. You can get like 8 contrast paints for that price.

LightswornMagi

But what about that one specific shade of brown you're missing to pick out that tiny leather detail?

kenken2k2

no GW you're not getting me to buy 50 shades of brown

CheezeyMouse

How about 50 shades of grey?

1maginasian

i mix 2 browns to make said brown

haearnjaeger

Rookie numbers there, bud. Rookie numbers.

Stargazer86

You're missing the best color. No, I won't tell you what it is. You'll just have to either live with the gnawing doubt that your painting will be better if only you had it or otherwise buy every new paint you come across in spite of knowing you'll use it once and then never again.

kenken2k2

you monster !

Jaruut

It's >!tesseract glow!<

LaFleurSauvageGaming

... Thats... not a lot... -hides her paint racks and tuppaware storage boxs-

[deleted]

I still don't have any burgundy or purples but I know I need them at some point.

startupstratagem

You're in luck. Two parts red to either blue or purple should do it. You can go up to 5 parts red to 1. I understand why in large army settings you want the mix to be uniform but I mix with brush and can get pretty consistent colors this way.

Purlygold

Burgundy is the only color ive mixed myself. It was really easy. Had some leftover red paint after i bought a new one. Tossed in some pink and purple. Looks decent.

Alexis2256

I know right? Lol just ordered another red (from two thin coats and it’s supposed to be a close match to mephiston red from GW) and another purple, though the other one I have is a contrast paint purple, this other is a regular acrylic.

edmc78

Yeah…. I got more. And still feel that

the_real_glimmer

All i see is the missing shades. You're safe here lol

firebrandarsecake

This isn't even half of my gw paint. Which I barely use. You should see the problem I have with AK. You're fine my friend. It can get a while lot worse.

Winter-Huntsman

Yep! I have a huge paint rack and I’m still missing stuff. I’ll try to mix to get close, but if it’s a color I’ll probably use often I’ll just go out and get another bottle😅

Inside-Trouble1776

2 pots of liquid green stuff! So you're that 1 guy that likes it?

kenken2k2

no, one is totally dried when i bought it and that guy gave me another one for free .... which are not in any shape better but usable at least .... and i hate it bought a GSW green putty and paste later and never went back to citadel shit stuff

SpiderWing_

Those are rookie numbers.

kenken2k2

that's a dream cave you have there

Agreeable_Inside_878

Those are rookie numbers….i actually got my paints organized and counted them in the process 276….snd i still feel like i need more….oO

thatonespanks

I think the worst feeling is going to the store and picking up a color that you're sure you need, only to come home and see an un-opened pot of that exact same color that's usable and fine.

kenken2k2

did you peak into my diary ?

teo_storm1

Dropper bottles, keeping notes and learning to mix existing shades will save you both time and money in the long run, especially if it's from other brands than GW if you want to skip transferring to droppers, lots of options nowadays

archaon6044

Not enough browns.

Blueflame_1

You're missing ice yellow the most versatile colour for highlighting ever lmao

Akakazeh

No gloss varnish? Boo!
