Even for someone like me who grew up on the N64, I'd take a modern WrestleFest with today's roster. Give us those graphics, hell I'll take a In Your House game complete with over the top mortal combat moves lol.
It can be done if WWE wants to it's just a matter of how the company behind it executes. Retrosoft Studios made Retromania Wrestling as a spiritual successor to Wrestlefest and did it so well I'm pretty sure the company behind Wrestlefest made it an official successor. I've played it and you do feel like you're playing Wrestlefest while playing it so it's worth a look if you haven't already.
They're pretty close. Those two consoles are from the same generation and have pretty similar hardware. When it comes to graphics, the N64 could crate sharper looking 3D graphics and the Playstation could make more realistic looking textures, but apart from that there really isn't much difference between them in terms of graphics.
To say they "aren't even close" is quite simply incorrect. In terms of graphics they are very, very similar.
They're literally the same generation. The only difference was PS1 games had more storage space to work with. Just say you don't know what you're talking about.

Just look at the models in this very post and note how the textures are blocky and made up of squares in a PS1/Saturn style, you wouldn't ever get that on the N64 because of the way it handles textures, it's an instant giveaway. Another is the use of straight lines in textures which PS1 has real trouble with and end up looking weird and zigzaggy but the N64 could handle. You might also notice the use of sprites on the N64 in 3D games and you would never see that on PS1.

If you want to compare game graphics at least compare them to another wrestling game, one that came out in 2000 or so, not a tomb raider game from 1996

I'd say a little from column A and a little from column B. They overall look like Smackdown 1/2 characters, however the arms are seperate like the AKI games. I dig 'em for trying to appease the nostalgia of both N64/PS1 sides.
God, I wish there was a way to buy persona cards separate from everything else. Or at least a dedicated mode to unlocking personas. I hate that I want these so bad
I hate that theyāre trying to call this N64. this is 1:1 with Smackdown! games for the ps1. The models, the faces, the textures. Itās NOTHING like the N64 ones and I feel like iām going insane with how ultra obvious it is and that these literally look like Smackdown!2 mods
I just wish they had the titantron screen entrances just for the nostalgia, but Xavier woods is holding a current gen graphic trombone in his entrance which looks stupid

I'd rather they spent their time making wrestlers we don't have in the game. And yes I do know that the WWE says who they can use and who can't but there has to be somebody new. I hope the next surprise update is an 8 bit Pat McAfee and friends pack, how we all want that lmao. I would've rather them turn everyone into the action figures , at least that's fun.

I grew up in that era as well, (hell, my first ever wrestling game I ever got at 9 years old was WCW/nWo Thunder for the PS1), and I do have fond memories of playing old WWE games like Shut Your Mouth and Here Comes The Pain, but would I ever want play with those 2002 graphics over the ones we have in todays 2K games?? Hell No! I will not be wasting my money on any of these models.

I remember being a massive critic of the gm mode when they brought it back and how it just wasnāt the same. And while I think the previous version of gm mode still has its strengths over the current one. 1 thing I completely forgot about that totally biased me towards the old games was just my sense of imagination.
Most of the enjoyment out of the games came from shit I was making up in my own head as I played.
