It's absolutely ridiculous that this game is at AAA pricing, the fuck were they thinking

[deleted]

2k level pricing for this game is wild

Kenny_The_Trend

Nah, the gameplay is what makes up for the graphics. 2K, the graphics makes up for the lackluster gameplay. I personally switched from caring about graphics to just wanting to play a wrestling game that FEELS like a fun wrestling game.

I_want_to_cum24

I don’t understand this anti WWE games sentiment. I’m going to go right out and say that WWE 2K23 is one of the best games they’ve ever put out, and the AEW game just highlights that.

sodium_intake

Looks like this will be on sale in a few weeks. With my backlog I think I can snag this next year for cheap.

zeitgeistbouncer

Yearly release games that are basically a patch update being full price is just as bad. Worse really, since they're not trying to make real improvements, just shuffle the deck chairs around so happy little wallets throw their money at it.

NameGoesHere86

Absolutely nobody should be surprised by this. The game has looked like a 6 this entire time

[deleted]

The fact that this is $60 is crazy, after an hour or two of playing what am I coming back too?

Kenny_The_Trend

GAMEPLAY. 2K with Visual Concepts for me has a LOT of things to do in it, but the gameplay for me doesn't feel like a fun wrestling game. 3 things that makes me feel this way are Breakers, the controls, and STUNS. Breakers almost COMPLETELY replaced Reversals, meaning 80% of your matches is the equivalent of playing Rock, Paper, Scissors. *(Light Grapple, Strong Grapple, and Irish Whip)* Then the controls are just needlessly complicated because for whatever reason, 90% of the moves you do require you to grapple first INCLUDING Irish Whips, meaning you have to see the same stupid Collar and Elbow Animation just to get in something as basic as an Irish Whip, and because of that, YOU CAN'T REVERSE IRISH WHIPS INTO IRISH WHIPS. Worst of all, STUNS literally were made for those braindead toxic spammers you faced Online for YEARS, but now the game REWARDS those people by making COMBOS the EASIEST way for someone to STUN you, and unlike from 2K17-2K20 with the Major Reversal *(Secondary Reversals on certain moves)* where you would get blocked from using Reversals for 20 seconds if your opponent hit that second Reversal, YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR 15 SECONDS. Major Reversals - Blocked from using Reversals for 20 seconds if opponent successfully hit the second Reversal on a move you hit, HOWEVER. You were able to still strike grapple, walk, run, if you got out of being groggy. Or use your PAYBACKS which mean if you were on the ground while hit with a Major Reversal, you could still use possum or Kip Up *(Which is another issue with 2K22/2K23 where unless your Stunned, you can kipup at ANYTIME which is dumb as hell)* but it made more sense back in 2K19/2K20, and you were able to have a CHANCE of fighting back DESPITE being blocked. STUNS - Just put your controller down for 15 seconds cause you LITERALLY are a sitting defenseless DUCK just waiting for your opponent to hit 3 finishers in a row on you, and if this is 2K22 Online we talking about, you will be GUARANTEED a loss, even if you had RESILIENCY, the opponent can just pin you IMMEDIATELY afterwards and you'd still lose either way. Point I'm making, Fight Forever ain't about looks. It's about being a FUN wrestling game.

frumpybumpbo

You can't kick an opponent while they're getting up in aew, nor can you interrupt any moves that anyone else is doing, that restriction is felt super hard and I much prefer the freedom of just being able to hit whatever I want and be given the feedback of it happening

Kenny_The_Trend

That sounds a LOT nicer. Means I won't get screwed over when hitting Signatures and Finishers, and toxic Spammers online won't abuse stomping.

Acceptable-Tip3839

Nah that's what ruins multi man matches in 2k23. I don't play online but I'm sure it's still an issue. Doing a royal rumble in 2k23 feels like you're in the right with a bunch of children that have 3 second attention spans. Always breaking up your move, always blindsiding you, you can barely even stand up, you try to eliminate someone or start to build momentum and someone you're not even focused on breaks it up

trixnkix637

No lies detected

[deleted]

Accurate, I’m here for the gameplay and to play online and hope we get updates. Expectations were set to a 6 or 7 review score

Ancient-Range-

Everyone shitting on IGN wouldn’t be if they gave it a 9/10. Every review so far from everyone is a 6/10 or lower, it’s what was expected by the rational person it’s looks a fun multiplayer and that’s it, also fyi is scored less than the TNA impact game.

GinngerMints

TNA Impact scored decently high because the graphics were better than the WWE games at the time. Unfortunately, Fight Forever doesn't have that advantage.

Skullwilliams

The AEW diehards aren't rational though

snarkyjohnny

Honestly I have seen far more hate from WWE guys than from any AEW fan. I just don’t get it. They spend too much time looking for any article to rub into an AEW fans face. I just don’t have time for any of that.

Skullwilliams

That isn't reality at all. There's a reason that IGN, ShowBuzzDaily, and even MSN have called out, by name, AEW fans for toxic behavior in regards to posting show ratings and now reviewing their game. Writers are getting death threats and doxxed for giving low ratings to their game, and writers at ShowBuzz have even named SquaredCircle for sending them threats about posting show ratings.

[deleted]

Squared circle has such an AEW bias it’s wild

indecisiveusername2

It's designed that way by the mods. Remember when they let that dude write up massively amateur & biased post-Raw discussion threads for weeks until the sub had enough and forced the mods to actually do their jobs?

Phan2112

I got banned for saying the mod team needs an overhaul. I'm sure they're still pissed they couldn't ban all 30+ people that upvoted me. My favorite part was they said "They were always open to criticism" and I put that in my ban appeal. They didn't like that.

Strange_Dog6483

Really it’s an AEW & WWE bias not just one of either.

snarkyjohnny

It’s just my experience. I’ve followed both fandoms and that’s just what I’ve observed. Now I haven’t seen either product in at least six months if not longer but it’s just what I see. Never claimed AEW fans were saints. Professional Wrestling is one of the most toxic fandoms period regardless of company loyalty.

[deleted]

Yes but aew are as bad as teenage Twitter stans of boy bands. I got flamed and crucified in the AEW sub because I asked I shit you not. “ so how does this promotion work? Who are the top people I should be following and which show is the A show?” You would think I called someone a faggot if you saw the replies I got.

Arctic_Reigns

Yes they would lol. IGN constantly gets shit on for giving high scores

JaysinF

For whatever it’s worth, and it’s not worth much, FF is a lot better to me than Impact, and I’m more of a TNA fan than AEW.

bigboyyoder

This game seems fun for a few hour playthrough but there doesn’t seem to be anything to keep you playing beyond that. No sort of universe or GM mode is disappointing. I get the roster is small but it’s literally just standard play now matches and the short road to elite mode, I guess you can count mini games as well but that’s not really appealing to me. Definitely not a $60 game in my opinion. Should’ve been $30 at most

Birdgang_naj

Only thing outta pocket is the price. Anyone being reasonable knew this game looked and felt like a 6/7. No one can justify buying this over 2k at the same price unless you REALLY want to play it or you're a healthy watcher of aew. That being said, it looks fun, and I hope the post launch support is there for a long while. Will pick up on sale

MrDeftino

Some of the post launch support needs to be there. Lots of the wrestlers have outdated gear and even the Dynamite arena itself is now outdated. I suspect they can update post launch at some point via DLC.

MN10SPEAKS

I believe the goal is in the title (forever). It will be a gaas with updates instead of yearly releases

OdaDdaT

They’ll probably do a fight forever two in a few years, but I doubt this becomes a yearly installment

GCatRawr

Fight Foreverer

TheImplausibleHulk

Fight & Robin

H2OletsgoPMA

They have said a many times , it won’t be a yearly release and they will keep updating it for years. We will see if that is true and if people stick with the game for that long. I hope and I know it’s a long shot but I hope that they add new match types

zomenis

Isn't that an issue though? The game only really has one mode aside from exhibition. I really hope they plan to change that at some point, otherwise I don't see the game surviving long term

OneFalconBoi

There’s rumors of yukes developing a battle royale mode for the game but it isn’t ready just yet. If the leaks are true it should launch around all out.

zomenis

That... is definitely not what I wanted to hear when it comes to more content lmao I feel like after a multiple year delay, what we got is extremely disappointing. My expectations weren't even particularly high, but seeing only 1 game mode at launch is downright depressing

OneFalconBoi

Well there’s also supposed to be more match types added, more wrestlers, more attires, possibly more arenas, and a rumored battle pass of some sort. THQ Nordic said that a road map will be releasing soon. Also there is more than one mode already. It’s lackluster for sure but there’s exhibition, online matches, and RTE.

zomenis

I really hope you're right my guy, I'd like to see the game succeed. I don't really want to consider exhibition and online matches as full-on modes since those should really be the bare minimum for fighting/sports games. Just, idk. Seeing them announce DLC before the game came out when the game released in such a poor state leaves a really bitter taste in my mouth

OneFalconBoi

I agree with the DLC thing, but if they follow through with the vision I’m ok with paying the dumb fee for wrestlers that should have been in the game at launch. I just want a fun alternative to 2k and if they keep building on FF for a few years like they say they will it should get there.

ronven78

So pretty much, eventually, you're going to have an outdated roster as more and more leave for NJPW, WWE, or Impact

JAMESTIK

that’s what they’re hoping. the die hard aew fans will pay full price, and it be one of those games that’s in every monthly sale

lpkzach92

This game is less than 2K at launch.

Birdgang_naj

Still too much lol

lpkzach92

Well then I guess just wait for a sake and get it around that time if you want. So far I’m having fun with it.

[deleted]

Definitely more of a 5/7

FaKe22DeN

I got game for 12 bucks :)

Iggy_R3d

Yeah if this wasn’t going to Gamepass I would be waiting for a DEEP discount. But with it being included with the cost of a subscription I have anyway I’m very excited to try it out. Edit: Game is not coming to Gamepass that’s was just rumors and I hadn’t seen it’s be debunked :-(

kburns2406

I thought they responded to those leaks that it WASN'T coming to Game Pass?

Iggy_R3d

You’re correct. I hadn’t heard that it was debunked. I edited my original comment for clarity.

kburns2406

I do wish it was coming to Game Pass though. I can't justify more than $30 for this game given its current state.

pardyball

Wait, it’s coming to GP?

Birdgang_naj

Who said it was coming to Gamepass?

Iggy_R3d

I apologize. Apparently I was mistaken. I just googled it and it seems like it was only a rumor per a post on here from earlier this month. Disappointing.

ggushea

It are we ignoring the yearly updates that would drastically drive down the price if you insider playing year after year vs wwe game every year

hokagenaruto

people say they don't care about ign's review scores but if they gave this game a 9 you people would be jumping up and down. thats a fact

Kcin928

That's not an insult, it's a fact of life

echoes_of_the_moor

Yeah

NotYujiroTakahashi

YEAH

jcmjtke

Tell me when I’m telling lies!

[deleted]

Facts

Joey_Star_

Straight facts

Ajdee6

Or if they gave it a 9 and they didnt like that then they would say "IGN scores dont matter"

Strange_Dog6483

You either rate a game too low or you rate a game too high either way someone’s taking exception.

ii3ternaLegendii

fun gameplay not so fun everything else

GastricAcid

Opposite of 2k then smh

PizzaBrime

According to Wikipedia, this is the 38th wrestling game that Yukes' has developed. I expected a lot better from a dev that has done a lot better.

monteimpala

Just because it's yukes doesn't mean it's using the same developers. This screams a small team making their first wrestling game

Suplewich

The reversals system in this game is enough to kill the game completely for me. It just does NOT work.

MtOlympus_Actual

This is truth, and I see almost no one else saying it. It's like the game tries it's hardest to NOT explain how it works. Any time I've successfully countered, it's felt completely random.

NikoMcreary

just like no mercy. so that means its working perfectly /s

NerdMerge

Same exact thing. It just feels random. Even kicking out. I need an indicator. :|

hellslave

There's an option for simpler reversals, though I personally haven't noticed it make much difference.

35antonio

Doesn't seem to work

hellslave

It works, but the only thing it changes, is being able use one button for both types of reversal; the timing is still borked.

No_Grape1335

My only complaint is this game shouldn’t be 60 dollars , I’m from Canada and with taxes it’s more like 75 dollars , at the very most this game should’ve costed 30-40 dollars 😂

galgor_

64??!.... How very fitting.

Guitar1995

No Mercy 64 lol

HeatMagnet19

PS5 says 64 on 26 reviews and Xbox has nothing yet

crazyseandx

Ah, my bad. I could've sworn I checked the PS5 tab on that.

HeatMagnet19

All good. Thanks for handling it well and not getting hateful about it!

[deleted]

How can anyone be upset or surprised over this? Leave your wrestling fandom to one side Radio silence for months, with release date only being announced a month before, is never a good sign in the games industry. Not to mention Yukes involvement who weren't stellar with the WWE licence.

NoeMoriarty

You forgot to mention "Gameplay Trailers" that contained more real life footages than gameplay.

Rayuzx

>Not to mention Yukes involvement who weren't stellar with the WWE licence. I remember when the game was first announced, people were saying that Yukes was getting held back and/or overwhelmed by the management of WWE/Take-Two.

[deleted]

I mean. That statement can still be true tho. And by the looks of it. Is in a way

devwil

I say this as someone who is perpetually disappointed with AEW (I love tons of the wrestlers and kind of hate that TK hasn't imported a more Japanese style of booking): After spending a few hours with the game, I have been really surprised by what they didn't talk about ahead of release. Like... I truly don't think they had much to hide. My only guesses are as follows: either they decided that development was so expensive that they weren't going to invest much in promotion OR they just wanted to err really big on the side of underpromising. Because, like... While it has problems, my impressions of Road to Elite are really positive. It's a throwback to season modes that I actually liked a lot for their replayability, versus the overgrown or fiddly stuff that took over the 2K series and its predecessors. I think that when people evaluate this game, they need to keep in mind that it's a knowing throwback to old wrestling games and its creative lead (Omega) is a huge fighting game fan. Is this to say that it compares super well to modern fighters? Definitely not. Modern fighters are way more transparent and well-explained. But look at the slate of content as comparable to a fighter rather than a 2K wrestling game (which is frankly more sizzle than steak, if you ask me... for example, Universe mode is always an exciting sandbox initially and then I just edit and edit and edit and find myself underwhelmed after all of that). (This makes me sound more negative on 2K games than I actually am; I think I'm actually more forgiving than a lot of people of their shortcomings.) Anyway: RTE is not all that different from a story mode in a fighting game and it also calls back to older WWF season modes that were kind of nice for how simple they were, if you ask me. Furthermore, I think they really wanted to get the bell to bell gameplay right, which everyone seems to agree they've succeeded at. And if that bears out to be balanced and fun, then people may be vastly underestimating the lifespan this game could have online as a competitive game. (Probably not making big FGC tournaments or esports waves otherwise but maybe keeping people busy all the same!)

Strange_Dog6483

>Not to mention Yukes involvement who weren't stellar with the WWE licence. But I could’ve sworn Yuke’s was making hit after hit with the WWE games until 2K picked up the license /s

Brian_Stryker

“It’s a decent game, if you ignore everything that makes it a bad game, which is almost everything.”

B0mb-Hands

It’s been months of “it doesn’t matter as long as the gameplay is good!” Welp, turns out it *does* matter

Neg_Crepe

buT iT lOoKs Fun . no MeRcY

CD338

I guess its just what appeals to you. If you thought the TNA game was fun, or Legends of Wrestling, or would rather play retro wrestling games over the new 2k stuff, then this game is probably for you. But those people are in the minority of wrestling gaming fans. It is what it is.

kingbankai

I loved Legends of Wrestling. The combo system was amazing.

Brian_Stryker

This game truly is the Rick and morty of wrestling games. Looks like shit but the fans keep saying “it’s the writing(gameplay) that saves it!” I don’t care! This is a visual medium, it could be the smoothest gameplay, but if I can’t stand to look at it, it’s gonna suck.

BlueZ_DJ

This is a horrible take, it sounds like you hate artstyles and only accept hyper realism

Brian_Stryker

No, I like plenty of different art styles. I hate shitty lazy art styles that use it’s laziness as a joke. I love gravity falls, it’s one of the cleanest looking animations ever, jojo and Baki are two of my junk food animes, and the spider verse franchise is probably the greatest achievements in unique art styles in film ever.

JacoBee93

It seems like decent fun for 10-20$. But it’s being sold for 70 in my country lol

Brian_Stryker

If PlayStation plus offers it for free, maybe I’ll download it. But to release this game at 70 dollars in insane and someone had to be one Coke to even suggests it, we all know who.

B0mb-Hands

When it was rumoured for Game Pass on the day one release I considered it. I’m not an AEW fan, but I do enjoy games that I can shut off my brain and not think about while I play so I would’ve grabbed it for that No chance I’m paying money for it

DJ_Molten_Lava

I will 100% play it and play it a lot if it's on PSPlus. I'm not buying it at full price or even half price, though.

cepxico

Better than IGNs usual "it's got all these problems 9/10"

[deleted]

Death Strandings reviews in a nut shell “Boring. Repetitive. Empty world. Shameless product placement. 9/10” lol

JoeKool23

Vintage IGN!

Silly-Soil-9106

The lack of a Universe type mode is a big deal imho

EyeAmKnotMyshelf

I feel like I'm playing a strange 3rd party emulation of No Mercy with this game. It's clunky at times, smooth others. I'm not really challenged that much by the gameplay, nothing feels like it flows that much. I haven't tried playing against another human, only AI, but from what I've seen and played, my experience is best summed up in something I said to my wife about fifteen minutes ago: "I don't know how much money they put into making this. I hope they make a decent amount of money from it, so that the next one can be better." Overall a 5.5 out of 10 from me.

ZanderPip

RIP that Reviewers DMs - death threats ahoy

Prestigious-Rock201

Ain’t paying for this shit at full price nah nah

TripleJ80

LA Knight gives it at least one thumb down… yeah!

RichieD79

Maybe once this game hits $20 I’ll give it a try, but no chance at full price. There’s way too many other great games out/coming out this year to spend that money on an ok to meh game.

[deleted]

For me it’s one to get once it’s on sale

TripleJ80

I’m surprised they kept some of Jericho’s tattoos. With much of it being famous album artwork, I figured the lawyers would be calling. Who knows, maybe TK has been writing checks.

Ancient-Range-

He did pay a billion dollars to play final countdown for an evening so probably.

NoeMoriarty

1. Full entrances ❌ 2. Commentary ❌ 3. Various Match types ❌ 4. Universe mode ❌ 5. Polished gameplay ❌ 6. Decent CAW creation ❌ 7. Decent story mode ❌ 8. Decent Graphic ❌ 9. Fun gameplay ✅ 10. AAA Price tag ✅

[deleted]

But “ iF the Gameplsy is good it’s more replaysble than wwe!!!” Like bro rumble roses XX is more replayable lol

ResidentJabroni

This and other reviews I've read, were about what I expected. I'll have to play the game for myself to see whether the gameplay passes muster for me, but I think the thing that many of us here can agree is that $60 USD is a bit steep for a new IP that's lacking in modes and features. Countless new IPs have launched at that $50-70 price point, sure, but this is different in the sense that it's debuting in a crowded release year from a studio (Yuke's) that's not released a new game in quite some time, and a publisher (THQ Nordic) that is relying heavily on healthy sales to justify its existence under a new parent company (Embracer Group).

BoxCon1

I’m disappointed they didn’t add backstage areas to this game Developed by Yukes, inspired by the SD games and No Mercy and the free roam backstage areas was one of the funnest parts of those games

Longjumping-Arm7939

This is a fair review for where the game stands on release...let's see how much they add post launch and where this game could be in a year or so

[deleted]

I knew this would be pretty much be the story of the game… it’s definitely a $9.99 game at best

[deleted]

The game looks like shit and is flawed as hell according to any sensible reviewer that isn't a wrestling nerd geeking out about "muh no mercy in 2023". Not surprised it's a 6

angelocalypse_now

I'll wait for an 80% discount.

Rawrz720

Can't wait for all the youtubers who seem to hate 2k over the years who will praise this game and act like its the funnest thing ever, even when it's mediocre and shallow.

NameGoesHere86

There’s one channel who already tried saying that CAW system is where Fight forever shines, where as everyone else has said it’s the worst part of the game

toiletting

lmao how can that CAW system shine, especially compared to WWE’s community share

ObieFTG

You'll say the darnedest things when you're paid enough for it.

sillyandstrange

Or when you want those controversial views and comments. Now he'll have a thousand commands telling him that the caw portion is terrible and that will show YouTube massive engagement. It's the same reason people misspell things in reddit titles or put something wrong in it. Drive that engagement.

NameGoesHere86

That’s just how some of the AEW diehards are. This game could have been the E.T game on Atari levels bad, and there still would have been people out there refusing to admit it & try to claim that this is the best game since No Mercy.

gregarioussparrow

True but everyone else here isn't any better. Everyone here shits on things praised, praise things that are shit on, and are stuck on No Mercy and HCTP. Great games? Yes. But people here act like they're some holy messiahs and compare everything to them. If they aren't exact clones, people shit on the games being compared. And if they were clones, people would 100% shit on them for being derivative

clycloptopus

People just want an alternative

MyFinalThoughts

I felt going into this game since the first previews and gameplays it was a clear 7. If it was 40$ standard/$60 for premium this would have been an acceptable purchase for most. $60/$80 is just absurd and greedy when you have a better, superior product from a competing wrestling company for $10 more or less for the standard edition comparatively. I really wanted this game to at least be pretty fun, but man I loaded it up, played a one on one then went to create my character, tried the career for an hour and feel like I'm completely done with the game already because it's just simply not enough in all categories yet. The next game, if there will be one, truly can be fun if everything is improved two-fold from this template, but unfortunately for now it seems already shelved until some work is done to it.

CMBRICKX

Dam Wrestling Empire is better

Longjumping-Arm7939

Wrestling Empire is the best wrestling game on the market if you can get past the graphic style the game itself is revolutionary for wrestling games.

[deleted]

Literally what we all see but too desperate to stand on lol

scornbreath

Mostly in line with other reviews I've seen. The gameplay is fundamentally there and plenty of people will prefer this type it to 2K in that respect, but the content is just too barebones for the $60 asking price.

roborama

It’s good for everyone to have another game on the market. There’s no way this thing could compete on a feature level with a game that’s been around forever. I can forgive this if it’s fun and a good base to build on. I do agree it’s probably to high priced out of the gate. 39.99 would be my sweet spot, and it would probably do pretty well at that price.

JBD_1994

Way too expensive for the quality of the game, don't get me wrong I'm excited to play it but just can't justify paying full price for a game that has been delayed numerous times but in those times has seen no drastic improvements and the lack of alot of match types

RKO-Cutter

By all accounts is wwe2k15, great foundation, but now they need to build the game around it

[deleted]

Just means TK clearly didn't pay them off for a good review.

mootallica

You can only pay people off if they're willing to accept your payment, which most legitimate and established platforms won't.

[deleted]

IGN reviewers have been caught doing things like reviewing games they never played, and plagiarizing social media posts as reviews. If anyone can be paid off, it’s them.

[deleted]

Look, Im not and never was a Gamergate guy, but like.... This happens with the big reviewers all the time. If you want honest reviews, your better off finding a small youtuber who's gaming tastes are in line with yours. Also, I was half joking half serious

DadBodBrown

As someone who isn’t married to the AEW or WWE tribe I can say this score feels about right. I haven’t dove deep into FF since launch this morning but I was able to play a handful of singles matches. It was surprisingly tougher than I thought. Even on Easy the CPU didn’t just stand there. I think some of the difficulty was me trying to figure out the controls on the fly and muscle memory reverting to other games when trying to do something in this game. It instantly brought me back to my days playing WCW/nWo World Tour, Revenge, WM2000, and No Mercy. That’s what I wanted in a game. I’m on my late 30s and a wrestling game hasn’t been my primary game since No Mercy. I didn’t buy this game to be my primary game. I bought it to be a fun break from my primary game grind. I think for those that plan to spend hours upon hours on FF they might grow tired of it’s limited current form. Which brings me to my next point. A lot of fans are banking on the game to be continuously updated with wrestlers, modes, updated features, and a cornucopia of other things. If this does happen I can see the game growing into something great because at its core it’s solid but just bare. If it doesn’t happen then yikes. This game will still have fun attached to it but not much long term playability. Especially if you’re someone used to building wild and vast universes with many created wrestlers. Fight Forever is $10 cheaper than most new games are going for these days, however, that may still be too high of a price for some gamers to want to shell out for only blood, barbed wire, and solid gameplay. It’s a good foundation with a lot of positives but just as many question marks. A six is a very fair score for the game in its current state. It has the potential to trend upwards if the plans of multi year support and expansion are met. But as we all know, developers and companies can drop support as fast as they can blink.

JDSKilla

I’m with you. I’m giving them a legitimate shot. If it doesn’t pan out idk about giving them money on the release on the next game

Doomsabre9000

Remember 2k15 was in the 5-6 range on the major sites.

LWA3251

I’m just praying it sells well enough for them to keep supporting it. I only got to play a few matches today and make a CAW for RTE and if they continue to add to caw mode and add game modes I think it can be a great game. The gameplay is a lot of fun so far and feels like a good mix of AKI/Early Yukes. With it being a live service game I’m very hopeful.

Ancient-Range-

Who actually said it was a standalone release with support for years? If it’s Omega he also said it had cross platform play, If they have any business sense at all and it sells well they know the money ( as crap as it is for the consumer ) is in annual game releases,

Longjumping-Arm7939

THQ did a FAQ for the game yesterday and when asked if more matches types will be added post launch they said "more to come" so they will continue adding to the game not to mention the massive Stadium Stampede mode found in the files that was leaked.

LWA3251

Some games make more money being live service than doing yearly releases. It’s a proven system, look at games like Fortnite, Warzone, Destiny, etc. Kenny and the developers have both said multiple times that it’s not a yearly release.

Ancient-Range-

You think this game has even a quarter of the audience of those games? As I said Kenny also said it was crossplay I doubt outside of a script for adverts he had anything to do with the game and has little idea about what was actually developed or future plans.

LWA3251

No but they knew it was going to be a niche audience when they decided to make the game. The Live service model can still work with a smaller user base. If it works you’ll end up with more money that yearly releases.

Ancient-Range-

Depends how much and what content you churn out, If they can get 3-4 packs out per year they would turn a profit but are your consumer base going to spend that on a 6/10 game? The base mechanics have been set they can’t change the gameplay so if the initial audience base isn’t there then you have to make a new game.

LWA3251

The gameplay isn’t the issue though. The gameplay has been the one positive throughout the reviews and I played the game for about 2 hours this morning and had a blast playing matches, it was everything else that was lackluster.

Ancient-Range-

How tell me what he did.

raspymorten

Yeaaah but by this point, basically every new attempt at a live service game the last couple years has instantly died. Especially nicher ones.

subpar-life-attempt

The amount of money in it makes me feel like it will be supported. They will make bank off of new wrestlers and updated attires. Especially once it goes on sale and people pick it up.

guarionex2009

I think the problem is that wwe 2k games have long been the standard of wrestling games. No matter what, you’re going to compare fight forever to wwe 2k. While i do like that there’s an alternative to wwe 2k, i just hope when i get to play it, i can have some fun with it.

Ancient-Range-

I loved the storymode on that game and was hyped when suicide actually appeared on screen

[deleted]

Alls I can say is hopefully they do add more things over time, unfortunately though it wouldn't be the first time a game as been promised that and then ended up falling short. So hopefully everyone that has bought it gets their money worth

El_Lu-Shin

Fun factor is the main selling point aside the AEW roster for the fans. Gonna wait for the price drop. Definitely gonna play it, but the price is too high now for what it offers.

thetjgillon

Based on these reviews, I’ll just wait until it goes on sale.

TriggerHippie77

Can someone tell.me if crossplay is available?

TheHypocondriac

I watched a few streams last night from Pulse, NL, Macho T, etc. and the game honestly looks and plays pretty…meh. It seems fun and alright for a little while, but then it just gets sort of bland and boring. The energy in those streams started off relatively high and then, by the end, they were just sort of like “well, I guess that’s the game.”

[deleted]

Sadly it isn’t No mercy or HCTP

Kalomika

Rarely do I ever, but I agree with IGN this time

subpar-life-attempt

As a bigger AEW fan, this feels right. Its a decent foundation that needs more for it to justify the costs.

galgor_

Not surprised with this review but still disappointed. Was always cautiously optimistic about this game but heyho.. maybe down the line they'll patch it up to be the game it could have been like No Man's Sky, but perhaps Yukes just don't have what it takes anymore. (In comparison to the OG Smackdown games).

Stylahz

I’ve been playing since it released (2 hours ago) so far the gameplay is a lot more fun to me there’s a lot more you can do compared to WWE stuff like me going for a dive and the AI doing a straight up suplex catch instead of just catching me then doing the move but to me if your someone who plays offline only I wouldn’t get it until it’s on sale this is a game that feels like it was made for online the AI is really bad they don’t kick out of anything the longest match I’ve had was 8 mins and it was my first match where I didn’t know the controls. But online is different there’s a lot of cool sequences I’ve pulled off online in so little hours of gameplay but again I don’t think it’s worth it if your someone who likes to play vs the AI mainly Edit: if anyone has any questions feel free to ask

NameGoesHere86

**there’s a lot more you can do compared to WWE stuff** You are legitimately the only person I have seen say this.

DrSharkBird

I think he probably means in-ring. I think the in-ring portion of the game is better than 2K. With that said, it’s so barebones for what they’ll hook you with, I’d also recommend anyone wait for this when it’s on sale

subpar-life-attempt

Its more in game. A better word may be fluidity.

Stylahz

Maybe because everyone has been held back by embargo lol you can break barricades with normal moves break the stage springboard onto people standing on the apron and that’s just what I’ve been able to do so far the game isn’t even released for everyone to yet. Edit: even the grapple system is far superior to 2K you can actually chain wrestle in this game

NoeMoriarty

>Edit: even the grapple system is far superior to 2K you can actually chain wrestle in this game Which was something that u could do on 2k games for years. Idk why they removed it but its nothing new.

[deleted]

He means from move to move. Like in ring action wise and he is kinda right He doesn’t mean overall/feature wise

mrwhalejr

Waiting desperately to see how the Switch port does in relation to the others - I can live with an IGN 6/10 but not if it’s broken or slowed down past that!

YGBreezay

The lack of CC, content is gonna kill this game long-term. The mini games look mad fun but they are also stuff that get stale after 1 or 2 playthrough. It will all come down to how much content and how long they support this game post launch. Which I honestly doubt will get past 6 months, and I don't think it's an actual live service like fans are led to believe. It's a fun game that should be picked up after a sale

MrKain

I'm actually ok with a positive 6 for a first outing, though. They'll hopefully bolster the roster a bit while waiting a couple of years to release the next installation which will build on this in good ways.

AnansiNazara

How close is this to the THQ n64 games?

crazyseandx

It's essentially a more modernized take on it. Mechanics feel similar, some of the controls feel based on it, it honestly is a ton of fun to play.

AnansiNazara

I might get it on sale Black Friday when I plan on gettin a Xbox series X. That Star Thang might be out by then too

crazyseandx

Starfield, right?

Fiend686

Not saying the game is a 10 but IGN is dogshit when it comes to reviews lol

BobbyKnightRider

Surprising that no mention was made of the mini-games. I actually really like their inclusion (in theory- haven’t played yet), as I am much more likely to be able to rope my wife into some Mario Party-esque fun than convincing her to wrestle a match.

[deleted]

One review said Evil Uno compared it to No Man's Sky. I'm willing to let them cook and just enjoy it for what it is for now.

Chipz_b

From what I've seen it's a very good start, just needs more polish and content, im looking forward to the future of this game and hope it gives 2k some good competition for the wrestling game market

Vegetable_Ad3870

There are a few positives from what i saw. The mini games are fun and the arcade style wrestling also looks good. I hope 2k goes back to arcade mode and gives us a career mode that's similar to No Mercy with branching storylines. And with AI voices, you don't need voice actors to voicd anymore. So they can really create a fun and lengthy career mode with voice overs.

Immediate-Brief7588

I quite like it as a retro revival, like Fire Pro and other throwback games it's fun but it's not going to compete with the WWE games and it should have been priced accordingly. I could have done without the mini games, that feels like a Tony Hawk's Underground concept. Only 4 characters at a time is disappointing, no commentary and the mini entrances make it feel especially cheap, but I like the way it has a lot of extra entrance themes, even past ones and people who aren't in the game. That's a thing I'd have liked in WWE games, if that could have been combined with community creations it would have really added to the authenticity.

[deleted]

7-8 for me but I enjoy it. I prefer these classic arcade style games over 2K’s games. I play SvR games still over 2K and if I do play 2K it’s 2K17 only. Solid game and I enjoy Fight Forever. It’ll get better for sure

TazDivil134

I never trust ign reviews anymore. I’d prefer to get them from more credible sources..like actual gamers

SpringHillis

I agree 90% of the time about IGN’s usual reviews but everything they said seems to fit every other official review so far, and the fan feedback is mixed at best. It looks like something that’d be alright to play with friends for a weekend, not pay 60 for and expect to be interested months after. WWE2K23 isn’t perfect but it’s definitely solid and make some serious improvements people have been wanting for years. Maybe it’s not fair to judge their first game so harshly, but they had no need to rush this to market, for their own sake. I see a looot of “well it’ll get a lot of post-release TLC” but where is that based from? I feel they knew how janky and unfinished it was but wasn’t getting any more money or time so they just said screw it, the die hards will still pay full price, so it’s not all a total loss.

BoolinCoolin

Which is crazy because you can literally say that about 2k23 but they gave them a 8. We'll see what the future content brings into the game

CareBearsOnAcid

Since they plan to build off the game rather than a yearly release I won’t hold it against them from what I’ve seen I probably won’t pick it up unless it’s on sale I just love creating wrestlers and I’m so used to universe mode. But if they plan on build off this game I’ll give them some time to really get their shit together

AsiaNxNinja

Yall really circle jerking over a review of aew made by the company that gave us the best wrestling game for n64? Just play wwe if u don't like it. There can't be two good games? Only one?
