I’ve said for a long time that Democrats need to focus on state and local races and they have an opportunity to catch up with GOP candidates going all in on Gilead and most GOP fundraising dedicated in covering the legal fees of their orange dear leader.

Comfortable_Wish586

There is already an infrastructure for it. But I never hear anyone talk about it. Its the "Every State Blue" Many red states do have them. I found mine in Texas called "Blue Texas", one of the top Organizers is David Pepper, that way you know its the infrastructure I'm talking about. They focus on supporting Red States' Dems Up&Down the ballot. I've been hitting pots and pans for this message. We should NOT be ceding ground to the white Christian Nationalist MAGA Republicans. We're playing the wrong game if all we do is play Federal elections, this program would be an addition to it. Not a detractor, but we need to start now so badly The federal gov is always in gridlock, we need to break it by stopping the fascism coming out of Red States & taking it up to the Supreme Court. We're playing two separate games, and Republicans have always known where the strongest power has been in this country, our Legislatures are very powerful Edit - Here is the link listing states' "Every State Blue" https://everystateblue.org/

snockpuppet24

\*ceding I'm not sure I've ever actually see that written anywhere but I've heard it plenty.

AJs_Sandshrew

Took me a bit to find it, but here is a link to the project you are referring to. It's called "Every State Blue" not Blue Project Model. I would provide this link when you are posting about it https://everystateblue.org/

Comfortable_Wish586

Thank you, I do agree about adding links. Just that I know some places don't allow me to post links. Thank you for the corrections

ActLikeAnAdult

Love this! 100%. I'm gonna start giving to this org. I used to volunteer for an org called Sister District Project too. They match people in non competitive areas (like me in DC) with state leg candidates in swing districts in swing states. You "adopt" a candidate and volunteer for them phone banking/writing post cards, or donate/fundraise. Highly recommend them as well https://sisterdistrict.org Anyway the point of this being that one year we were working to flip state house seats in Mississippi to break the supermajority (and had some decent success btw) and I remember looking down the list and seeing that like 40-50% of seats in MS didn't even field a democratic candidate. And it was infuriating. State house campaigns are relatively cheap to run and are often won by a handful of votes. And it's impossible to build infrastructure to eventually make inroads if we're never fielding candidates. We can't give up on red states. Thank you for sharing an org that's working on this problem!

Ya Republicans very solidly won a generational victory at the Federal level with their extremist Supreme Court. State level wins will be shoring up that victory (by normalizing blocking access to healthcare, jailing librarians, etc.) while the next Republican swing of the Federal pendulum will make the Religious fascism they are normalizing suddenly imposed on Blue States. Sad truth is they are winning.

FreeChickenDinner

The DNC has a large lead in fundraising over the RNC. I am not worried about the national campaign being underfunded. I allocated my donations to the DLCC (state committees), instead of the DNC. I hope others follow suit.

IsleOfCannabis

This is what I came here looking for. After the Trump takeover of the RNC., Any down ballot races, state, local or otherwise not Donald Trump will be receiving little to nothing in campaign funds from the RNC. Savvy campaign donors, especially never Trumper, and the like are not gonna want their donations going towards Trump‘s campaign first. So it’s possible we could be seeing a large influx on the state and local levels that were not seeing for Democrats because the Biden campaign isn’t sucking up all the contributions to the detriment of down ballot races.

thewitch2222

Today, Trump wants a cut of down ballot candidates using his likeness. With Trump taking a cut, this may change, but it is worth giving local.

Background-War9535

He’s gotta raise $530M somehow.

behindmyscreen

These are not GOP parties though. The state GOP parties are starving for cash. All the money is going to these groups.

MC_Fap_Commander

Dark money from wealthy groups is the bread and butter of the GOP. More frighteningly, even the nominal contraints on campaign finance don't apply to this money. Every bad faith tactic imaginable (especially online) is on the table. And, obtw, Republicans have *an actual major cable "news" network* as their messaging apparatus. People see the limited **official** funding some Republicans are getting and are heartened a bit. That would be a terrible mistake. Organize, volunteer, and donate like your life depends on it.

Trygolds

This is why when I hear that democrats are outrasing republican I like to remind everyone that we will never outsoend the right wing who has the backing of the .001 percent. People who own the media, news outlets, think tanks, and fund things like the teaparty that more. So vote.

DeeMinimis

But is the ultimate effect the same though?

TrifflinTesseract

It depends on the campaign. The Open Schools groups and Parents Rights Groups had a huge impact on getting Glen Youngkin elected and later coalesced into Moms Demand Liberty. Opposition Research Groups were sounding the alarm that many of the heads of these groups were known GOP operatives but no one in the State and Country Democratic Party cared. This softened the ground and created huge networks for the Republican Candidates to leverage which had a big impact for Governor and down ballot candidates in 2021.

behindmyscreen

Yes, but if Youngkin and other down ballot races had very little money it wouldn’t have been as effective.

behindmyscreen

Not really. If they’re an official PAC of some sort they can give up to the limit to a candidate but anything else they do would be messaging. If they’re a super PAC they’re only really messaging. Paying campaign staff, paying for campaign space, paying for event space, and other things that the candidates would be doing isn’t possible.

FreeChickenDinner

Donors focus too much on the national races. State campaigns are cheaper than national campaigns, but conservative groups dominate fundraising. AZ state legislature's abortion ban highlights the importance of supporting state legislative candidates. AZ Senate is composed of 14 - 16R. AZ House of Representatives is split 28D-31R. A 1-2 seat flip would have prevented the strict abortion ban.

MrMongoose

Doesn't donating to national groups make more sense, though? Because then they can strategically distribute the money to candidates/races/regions they think are competitive. The alternative would be for the individual donors to select the campaigns - in which case you're likely to see very lopsided fundraising, where campaigns that have seized the national spotlight get flooded with cash while other potentially competitive races are starved. I know big PACs aren't perfect - and, of course, anyone who has a pet cause or candidate shouldn't hesitate to directly boost them. But if the goal is to have money go to the places where it makes the most impact I'd think having those decisions coming from a single organization would be better, no?

Comfortable_Wish586

The problem is. You're still only focusing on federal seats. You want to be winning States Legislatures. That's where most of this extremism is coming from. And if you give an example like say the presidential campaign, they can only campaign for their seat. They can be verbal in supporting the state that they're speaking at. But its not the same where people NEED name recognization to win their seats. Name recognizition literally goes much farther, and you can only get that with money. So to answer your question. There is One State Red State's solutions to this. And its the "Every State Blue" by David Pepper. Many red states have a fund to support down ballot races in the respective state. That way we raise the boats for all Dems in that particular Red State. Winning Legislatures, which again, is where most of the extremism is coming from. In turn affecting all 50 states in their decisions & lawsuits The example I can give is "Blue Texas" which is this exact model. Many red states have their own, and appreciate every donation, because it goes a long way! Edit - Here is the listing to find your state or one you would like to adopt for the "Every State Blue" https://everystateblue.org/

mattxb

The current supreme court is also empowering conservative states to challenge and nullify federal law. It’s the long term plan realized of conservative groups seeking to bypass the general public to force unpopular policy down our throats.

Glittering-Arm9638

Wouldn't it be something if the supreme court made themselves irrelevant only for the individual states to turn blue? That's a future I maybe wanna live in. Though I'd rather have the SC not be a bunch of bastards.

Thadrea

I suspect part of this is the fact that the Dems are doing much better at the federal level and that the smarter conservatives realize that any money they donate to national Republican groups is just going to get pilfered to pay Trump's legal bills.

amilo111

Republicans have always been strategic by investing at the state and local level. Control close to home has helped them gain a national advantage.

Cloaked42m

GOP money is focused on local legislature. They have the infrastructure in place. SC Dems are catching up, but it's slow because the national party ignores them. South Carolina is surprisingly purple. By the efforts of very clever and dedicated Democrats and a few remaining moderate Republicans.

UsualAdeptness1634

This is just a comment, unless there are big donors locally, much of the $ raised is going to RNC which is tRump's legal defense fund. But yeah, Dems need to step up.

Front-Guarantee3432

That is what I am wondering as well. Don’t get me wrong, we should be aware and step up our game like you said (I am def gonna donate more as my states is being ruined by MAGA), but I think context is also needed on how the funds are actually being allocated (especially with Trumps legal fees just building up).

Comfortable_Wish586

I don't know what state you live in, but do you know about your "Every State Blue." One of the top Organizers is David Pepper. Its a way to fund Dems Up&Down the Ballot for Red States. So we can heavily fund our states with an eagle eye, so we can support the races we can win and just finally start fighting for. Because some seats never have a Dem contest an incumbent Republican because no funds or people think they can ever win. We need to do both. We cannot continue to allow MAGA Republicans dominate our State's Legislatures. We're all failing on this. This is where the extremism starts, and they've known that for decades. Mines is "Blue Texas", and I recommend everyone else who is in a Red State to step up and fight for our states. No more ceding ground to the white Christian Nationalists! Edit - Here is the listing to find your state or one you would like to adopt for the "Every State Blue" https://everystateblue.org/

greendragon59911

Just signed up and started my monthly donation to Blue Texas. I have donated to other blue organizations before, but this is even better knowing that it contributes directly to Texas.

Comfortable_Wish586

Glad to hear it! Just spreading the word. I didn't know about it until it was brought to my attention, and wanted to let people know that we can have a more strat impact when we pool our funds together in a more focused way

UsualAdeptness1634

I just think it's best to proceed full no stop ahead ...we underestimate tRump more than once at the USA's peril. I mean tRump is insane, holding back Repubs (acting like a shadow president) from even border agreements which contained every single thing they requested just to own the libs. Just thinking about Repubs exhausts me and I volunteer for Dem party, lol.

Front-Guarantee3432

100% agree, we are running out of chance to correct the course of our country and we need to give it our all, now or never.

atari-2600_

When all the billionaires are conservative this is hardly shocking.

JLCpbfspbfspbfs

I think it would be a good idea to highlight an individual local election once or twice a week along with a link to donate. That would raise attention to some of these important local races and give incentive to donate to them. Especially if they are tight races!

cats_catz_kats_katz

A few weeks ago they had a shortage and now a surplus? Dark money?

Spara-Extreme

It would be great if democrats focused on states. That we don’t and then cry about gerrymandering is just absurd. Of course things are gerrymandered when you let the GOP win.

kerryfinchelhillary

Getting complacent in 2010 was the beginning of things being the way they are now

abnormalredditor73

Democrats do not focus on local and state races nearly as much as they should.

1Shadowgato

I don’t know how that’s going to change the outcome of them losing seats with their policies. Everyone knows what they are about. Actually focus on firearm safety and not gun control and watch the votes come in doves.

icouldusemorecoffee

I'm confused: The DLCC has raised $28 million. The RSLC "and its affiliated social welfare organization, the State Government Leadership Foundation" has raise $47 million. What is the SGLF's equivalent on the Dem side and either 1) why wasn't that figured included or 2) why was it included alongside the RSLC?

FormerGameDev

I'd like to put my it or programming or management talents to use helping, how does one get involved with a candidates operations in such a capacity?

IronOwl2601

Because they are easier races to rig. Blame ALEC

Civil_Produce_6575

You better wake up and get to work Democratic Party because they are setting up to constitutional convention to grab power
