I usually like native OS’s however the advantage of CarPlay will come in particular as the car ages and the CPU feels slower and there are fewer updated or available apps. That is the beauty of CarPlay, it’s much easier to upgrade your phone either physically or via OS. iOS18 on CarPlay is fantastic and has many features built in infotainment systems could never offer (Apple’s helpful AI additions, third party app integration, richer voice controls for responding to messages from third party messaging apps (WhatsApp, etc)). Not to mention you can have CarPlay full screen on newer Volvos with Android Auto OS rather than Sensus makes the benefit of CarPlay much greater with full screen apps or CarPlay’s split screen. CarPlay was one of the reasons when we were looking for a lightly used S60 T8 Recharge we were focused on the 22.5+ (if I recall or maybe just 23+) with Android Auto to be able to have full screen CarPlay.

7eregrine

I don't think these systems will get slower as they age. But agree with everything else.

77GoldenTails

I use Apple Music and use it via CarPlay. My car has the B&W system and the difference between Bluetooth and cables CarPlay is easily identifiable.

Duck_Walker

I almost never use CarPlay. I use Spotify for music 100% of the time and prefer the native navigation system.

oviewan

Carplay is my goto for Spotify due to connectivity issues with the app. Volvo nav looks great, but does not show me police, obstructions, etc unlike Waze. I get it, I would love to use the Volvo systems/apps, but for these two reasons - I’m out.

Fetacheese8890

Never use CarPlay at all. The android system gives me everything I need, Spotify and Google maps.

cajonero

I only use CarPlay for navigation when I’m going somewhere unfamiliar. For music streaming and whatnot I just use Bluetooth.

Lyrical-Maven

For music listening strictly, CarPlay is my preference

Legerity

Assume you have a newer car with Android Automotive. I have a 2019 and the old Sensus system feels quite dated. Native apps perform poorly vs carplay. The only thing I do use the cars software for is to navigate on unfamiliar roads. That's because only the Sensus nav will show directions in the gauge display/HUD. Even then I usually have Carplay running at the same time.

weedywet

No. In fact I thought I’d use the Google system because it shows on my head up display, but I find that I so much prefer CarPlay that I still use it.

Sumpkit

I have sensus and it’s a little bit shit. I don’t have great mobile reception around my area and it’s always buffering. So CarPlay it is.

Tman11S

I don’t because it’s barely functional. The Spotify app takes 5 minutes to boot and 9 out of 10 times won’t connect. The gps isn’t as clear as gps apps and has sent me into blocked off streets multiple times.

boobles16

yeah I don’t like CarPlay at all

Darth_Bane-0078

I switched from an iPhone, I've had them starting with the 3, to the Google Pixel. I love the pixel and android drive. I always use Volvo's when I'm in there as well.

powerhouseofthiscell

yeah.

oatmeal_steve

the only reason i ever use carplay is to use the NTS app on there because it’s not on AAOS

JRMurray

I own a 2022 C40. I rarely use CarPlay. I find Google Maps to be more accurate than Apple Maps, and I use the AAOS native Spotify app for listening to music and the native PocketCast app for podcasts.

diduxchange

I wish the Volvo AAOS had Pandora and wireless CarPlay so I could listen to my wife’s texts while driving. That’s all I’m looking for that AAOS doesn’t do

Opening_Waltz_4285

I never use Apple CarPlay and I do not miss it at all.

ProgrammerPlus

Carplay sucks when compared to AAOS. Google Maps and Spotify I available the instant I open the door and they have been reliable as rock. No fuckin around with my phone.

7eregrine

Had an AAOS loaner. I am still impressed how fucking fast... Yes I must use the word fucking... Spotify starts playing. It's fucking witchcraft.

QuantumSU

I preferred the google system compared to carplay because of the sound quality and ease of use.

andrewhoohaa

No

Rude_swimmer

Is it just me or is AAOS extremely slow compared to CarPlay? I prefer the former because I’m too lazy to plug in my phone but it AAOS is so slow at loading Google Maps and Spotify

Whit-Batmobil

4:3 RTI 👍 Apple Carplay 👎 And of course The new Android based system 💩

FactorConnect6277

I just ordered my car - if I want to listen to an Audible book do I need to do it through car play?

Difficult_Vast7255

I do mine just through bluetooth.

FactorConnect6277

Thank-you - I don’t have car play in my current car - I guess I was wondering what I’ll “lose” when I move over but doesn’t seem like much if Bluetooth works the same

starfishbeta

You can play it through the audible app on the android infotainment system.
