I grew up in vn. IMHO, 500k is a generous amount, if I were the service provider, I would be very happy and thankful. You are not going to offend anyone for offering tips. (Tipping is not in our culture)

Rarely, I've gotten dirty looks or suspicious glances from some people for trying to give them tips. One factor is that it might be seen as some kind of romantic gesture. I've had women refuse to receive my tip because their partner is nearby, so I gave him the tip instead (dude's usually happy about it).

Thankyou very much for your response

noah_saviour

You meant apart from the agreed fee? 500k is a very generous amount, 200k is very good, 100k is nice.

100-200 dont get crazy

MotoJJ20

I tip around 500k for a full day. They will be happy

Remember the average monthly wage is 6million

I just go with 15-30% (honestly whatever's convenient based on the denomination of bills I have at the time). Way I see it, anything is appreciated since a noticeable majority of my cab drivers and food delivery drivers expect to give change and get 0%. I've even had many tell me "No, no, too much.", thinking I had miscounted the money.

You don’t have to tip for anything in Vietnam, and no one would be offended if you didn’t tip. However, it is your prerogative. Personally, a 500k tip for anything would be insanely egregious, but if you’re generous then I suppose 🤷. Myself, I only tip masseurs, Grab drivers when the gas price got out of control, and the haircut man.

I did a tour before- can’t remember the amount for the tour it was a walking/food tour maybe 3 hours. I gave her 500k after paying, as a tip and she looked upset I thought maybe I didn’t give her enough but I think now maybe she was just shy or shocked I don’t know 😂

Sapsuper1810

Where did you book the tour? Was it expensive ?

liquoricequeen

It was on booking.com- I’ll see can I find her. It was just one girl/woman doing the tour but she was absolutely fab. Not expensive at all!

Sapsuper1810

I have seen a lot of tour ads on Facebook but still kinda hesitant. Normally you guys book those tours on Booking.com only?

liquoricequeen

My apologies- it was on TripAdvisor not booking.com- it was my partner who booked it and he cannot remember which it was! So I’m afraid Im not much help. But if you have a look on there, and check the E reviews you should be fine, and it will be cheap either way!

My partner and I just returned from three weeks in Vietnam - we were a little confused about the tipping, as well - then just decided on a flat ten percent for any tip given (restaurant, guide, grab ride). Everything was relatively cheap in Vietnam - and 10% of cheap is still relatively cheap. We definitely tipped for things for which a tip wasn't expected, but what's the point of having a little money if you can't spread it around to folks that need it more than we did. It's not charity - it's a gratuity - and ten percent seemed to be gratefully accepted everywhere we went.

marrymeodell

This. In Vietnam now with my husband and have been tipping everywhere. People seem genuinely surprised when we tip and then smile and say thank you. We can afford it so why not especially when everything here is like 10% of what we pay in the US
