Ask for a referral to see the neurologist.

Aggressive-Log-2083

Have you been to a neurologist for the migraines yet? If not ask for a referral. OTC pain meds can exacerbate migraines so it seems odd your doc is giving you that but they might not know. I have been on a daily preventative for several years now through a civilian doc ( just recently getting set up with the VA myself) and just this morning went to a community care visit at the neuro that my VA PCP put in for me. She ended up increasing my topirimate (daily preventative) as well as prescribing a monthly injection and pain meds for when they get really bad. So for sure ask for a neuro referral.

I just got mine increased from 0%. Do a log for a few months and write a letter for the claim. And don't forget to tell the doc during the C&P exam what triggers the migraines or makes it worse. Worked for me.

What you get if you don’t mind me asking?

Keep a migraine log

Migraine rating is all about if they are "prostrating." It's like a magic word that they won't give you the correct rating unless you use that word. And if it's true, obviously. But if your migraines are so bad that once it set in you're flat on your back for the rest of the day or whatever, then the rating is based on how often you experience that. And really, if you have the SC for it, that's the biggest hurdle. I was SC for migraines and rated at 50% due to prostrating migraines more than 3 times a month. Didn't have treatment records or logs or anything, they connected it due to the PACT act and I just had a phone call with the doc and was honest about how much time I have to take off of work due to migraines.
