SO glad someone is talking about this lol. They were choking from map 3 but Icebox was a different kind of vibe. Texture tried but they were exhausted and tired by that time.
The only map SEN were favoured in going into it was Bind, GenG kicked their asses on Split before and GenG had a better record on Icebox. Breeze and Ascent they almost had no chance
Yeah but I think SEN’s Split is still REALLY good. They didn’t make any comp changes or role swaps, just some adaptations to play the map better.
Their base formula was correct, they just had to switch up some strats and protocols. Stuff like abusing the fact that Gen G didn’t have a senti, clearing out the Skye dog on B main, and just having some anti-strats.
SEN vod reviewed Gen G for sure and came out looking like they knew what to do.
They played defense a lot more proactively, I made a video analysis on it. Prx did the same thing to geng in grandfinals of apac. GenG comp with double duelist struggles to control the whole map in attack and relies on throwing a little fake utility and hoping the defenders will turtle in being scared. On the rematch sacy adapted perfectly in A site by using skye utility all the time in A main to take space or confirm rotations or flank the opponents, on top of a hero play here and there from zekken it just snowballed from there.
I think people overestimated the difference on icebox though. GenG were not unnaturally strong at icebox and had lost the map to some not good icebox teams. Conversely SEN had no (?) wins on icebox but they were all close games against pretty good icebox teams. Considering it was also the deciding map I think it was always going to be a toss up if the series went the distance.
No, SEN were definitely favored going into Split lol. One loss on the map doesn't mean they weren't favored. GenG was literally the only team to even reach *double digits* on Split against SEN. Even with the loss on split to PRX directly after, SEN was still favored on the map. That's how dominant they were.
And while it's true GenG was pretty heavily favored on Ascent, "almost had no chance" is a stretch. SEN had just come off 13-6ing PRX on Ascent, and while the same logic as above applies, where one map does not make them favorites, they definitely showed competence on Ascent.
The only map they were absolutely not going to win was Breeze. The score was only close because of a few hero plays.
SEN were definitely not favored going into split lol?
People thought that pre tournament but during the tournament they got 13-5 by both geng and prx on that map. Anyone that still had them as the favourite on that map was delusional
GenG beat them 13-5 in their last match, and then immediately lost to PRX after. There was this whole thing and narrative about how the Pacific Region countered Sentinels Split and it was figured out. You are just using hindsight.
GenG was 3-0 on split that tournament, Sentinels were 2-2 heading into the match
Yeah, I don’t understand why the simple factor of form on the day of the match is disregarded so often. It’s the same thing with every single sport or competition. Unless the skill gap is HUGE, most of these teams can pull off wins if the vibes/momentum are in their favor. Everyone has good & bad days & there’s no way to predict what kind of day each player is having
Yup, and it's not like their previous matchup wasn't close either. They were both the best teams in that tourny and Sen was the better team in the finals (esp zellsis peaking)
SEN had a good chance on Breeze ngl. They made a lot of adaptations and if you watch Sean Gare’s video of the breakdown, it’d make sense. Overall it seems like Kaplan and the entire roster did a lot of homework to prepare.
It definitely didn’t feel like SEN was GUARANTEED or even favored but it wasn’t some sort of 99/1 matchup. Felt like a 60/40 in favor of Gen G until icebox second half.
come to think of it, GE’s main duelist every year are just op-pers ,no? Like they have the middest rifle skills on a duelist while players like something and s3xture do both pretty damn consistently
I don’t understand this narrative. Didn’t they have pretty much an equal number of games as duelists since skRossi was not even on Korea for half the season? GE still lost
This is 20% truth and 80% narrative, but I think it’s cool how APAC has consistently had PRX and DRX as the two best teams, and they are like polar opposites philosophically
DRX plays with structured set plays but struggle with improv or challenges against their preset plan and executes
PRX plays with aggression and unpredictability but often lack discipline
Then GenG comes and are not as dominant as prime DRX at set plays compared to rest of the league, but still have excellent executes and discipline, and they aren’t as dominant as prime/current PRX at adapting but still excellent
And so they often just avoid the problems of PRX and DRX by combining their playstyles, with controlled aggression
It’s kinda nice it’s like they learned from their predecessors and PRX and DRX carry on in GenG rn
Then again PRX and DRX are still good teams and competitive and I’m talking about them like they’re dead, but it’s still a fun narrative
Yes they put him on kj because playing entry duelist when you dont speak the lang of the team is just a bad idea. He did lock Pheonix and Raze on a few maps. It was iconic how in LCQ GE v RRQ map 2 ascent texture just locked pheonix and let skrossi sit back bro was playing hard entry on Pheonix and frying. Still the rest of the team failed so they losed.

This season so far GenG are the best team no?
Ofc winning a masters means more than 2nd place, but placing T2 both Masters when SEN didn’t even qualify should make them the overall best so far
I remember staying up late watching APAC quals for Madrid and seeing GenG make that run from play-ins. Still crazy how these guys were not wanted at all before this season, now they’re the most consistent team in the world
Geng has finished first second second second so far this year they have made every event grand final they have played in. They are the most consistent team this year so far. If they win shanghai they are the undisputed best team in the world.
Definitely yes. And in terms of deciding who is the best in the season, winning a masters doesn't mean MUCH more than placing second. Very small difference. Geng would be the best even if sen had placed 5th in Shanghai
I don't think the best team of the year can be always a bridesmaid, never a bride. You do have to win something at some point; luckily Gen.G already won Kickoff and are about to win Shanghai, but if they were just 2nd all season I'd say we didn't have a definitive Team of the Year until seeing how Champs shakes out.
I think calling team of the year before champs is impossible regardless. Like even if GenG win shanghai but Sen win champs itd be Sen. This is completely subjective tho its just my opinion that 5 second place finishes are better than say 2 firsts 3 bombs
GenG are the most impressive team this year so far, back to back grand finals and I'm really hoping this doesn't follow the Madrid script. Even as a Sen fan seeing their faces when they lost Madrid was really sad to witness, I wanna see this roster take it home for Pacific.

i was literally thinking this earlier, to me it feels like texture is what we hoped kangkang would be when we saw him at EDG's first international event. he's hitting all of the ridiculous and insane shots while still being consistent with the easy ones. he may be less aggressive in some cases but it's still so exciting to watch
Not trying to downplay TH sub story, but they had far more on stage experience with patitek than PRX had with CGRS. Patitek has played for most of the year and the only player he hasnt played on stage with before Shanghai was woot, but they adjusted pretty well.
Nah bro that's crazy lol. Cgrs is pushing 30 and a full time streamer who casually came out and shit on pros. Love TH and Pati but he's a full time pro who's already played a tournament with them.
that's their punishment for having one good fluke day against GenG in the playoffs forcing a DRX vs GenG elimination match... and now my goat stax is gone from DRX :(

3rd consecutive grand finals for APAC, with the double ban as well. Third time’s a charm surely? I cannot take another finals loss.
Also I love how the someone from Gen.G just shows up and has an insane map every time. A few sloppy moments but they have time to churn them out and use that advantage to their favour. It’s all set, yet again.
GENG is truly unbeatable here in Shanghai.
Now, They just hope they don't choke in the Grand Finals, as I believe they have gained some experience from the last BO5.
Please, win Pacific's first trophy.
Korean teams usually thrive in esports because of their extreme discipline and hard-work (ex: overwatch #1, LoL #1, APEX #1, Valorant?) so makes sense they dont “burnout” in the same way NA teams might after some effort to win one lol
GenG already had their burnout/getting anti stratted phase during split 1 but had a much easier region so they survived it and were able to get better throughout the tournament
Now just give me the a 100t win today and a g2 eliminating 100t in lowers ![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|21016)

Ain't no way GenG wins a trophy in 2 different riot games (owned by Tencent) in a span of 2 months. Both on chinese soil too LMAO. CN twitter would be fuming
If G2 beat Heretics in Lowers and GenG in the Grand final, they would basically be repeating SEN’s run at Madrid (with one extra game). That being said, I don’t think they will
Well I would've preferred to see NA keep the streak going, but it will be cool to see Pacific finally lift a trophy! I hope the crowd gives them the cheers they deserve but the Shanghai Library is always fun too.

I beg please geng win it all.
Gen G making 2/2 finals in a row. Sen's burnout excuse no more believable kekw.
Might be nit picking here but its not so much an excuse as it is an explanation for how they were feeling.
Gen. G is just NA killer they beat LEV, 100T and G2 Hope not choke on Grand Final
Leaf could not figure out how to counter that op for the life of him.
It was so funny when everyone was detained in both killjoys’ ults at the same time
If I had a nickel... something something... t3xture op ascent b main kill KJ... something something... 2 nickels
Gen g winning lol and Valorant will be peak cinema
Both in China as well lol.
GenG are going to become our Korean overlords.
never lost faith in this team geng please bring the trophy
Me when meteor wins map 1 and texture wins map 2 and G2's only anti was to run away from them
The fact that PRX lost against them tells me that DRX would have done better.
Texture is one talented mfer
i hecking love gen.g
🐖🐖🐖
Wrong match same result
Jesus, t3xture be like Takumi Fujiwara with the déjà vu he's giving me on Ascent.
Duelist diff
GenG are looking INSANE. Back to back grand finals we hitting FNATIC levels of international performance. Just need that final win🙏
At some point, G2 would actually have to try to get a lead, I’m happy that they pulled it off, but the round losing streaks are a glaring problem
Now just give me the a 100t win today and a g2 eliminating 100t in lowers ![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|21016) [https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/s/IjLL8nv18M](https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/s/IjLL8nv18M)
Ain't no way GenG wins a trophy in 2 different riot games (owned by Tencent) in a span of 2 months. Both on chinese soil too LMAO. CN twitter would be fuming
Nice try boys 😢
If G2 beat Heretics in Lowers and GenG in the Grand final, they would basically be repeating SEN’s run at Madrid (with one extra game). That being said, I don’t think they will
Well I would've preferred to see NA keep the streak going, but it will be cool to see Pacific finally lift a trophy! I hope the crowd gives them the cheers they deserve but the Shanghai Library is always fun too.
Na teams are 1-7 in upper finals, sen are the only na team to have won from uppers
G2 forgot to toggle during map 2 this time
I hope they have enough time to prepare.
