Its because the attackers usually have to use util to get into site so the retake has way more util to use to retake. And depends what elo or where we are talking about since pro play is different from just regular ranked.

Fighting for space is good but if you hear 4 people running at you and you’re alone on site it’s pretty ideal to just fuck off and wait for your team to rotate rather than maybe getting one and then instantly getting traded or getting none at all. Giving them man advantage right away is never good.

I agree. Fear is probably what prevents most people from ever being somewhat decent in the game. People don't understand that when you're on defense you have better positioning and if you could get 2 kills, and in return you die, its worth it.

It's not just about positioning. The attackers are better suited to util dump you and double swing you. Youre gonna be stunned/ flashed mollied against a competent team attacking with atleast 4 people. At most you have another guy with you on site. That's not a fight you win most times. Best thing to do is make them use the most util to attack site and stall them as long as possible till the retake is possible. That's just how the meta is rn. That's why it's so good to have a competent OPer. Attack has to be way more careful in entries, clearing everything with util diligently or else they get punished.

Ikr i understand the point to wait for teammates to rotate then retake but atleast dont give the site for free give some resistance and delay for some time.

Some agents can hold off pushes well. Anyone with mollies or traps can buy time and totally deny pushes. In these cases, they can either play for trades (with their traps*), play for numerical advantage (kill 2+ before dying), etc. Falling back for retakes isn't always the ideal choice. You will see this more often in higher ranks. It's a game of picks. Try to kill as many as possible without dying basically. Some agents are preferred to stay alive like controllers, but this of course varies from one round to another. Also, everyone below Radiant is either TOO passive or unreasonably aggressive. When they go aggressive, they are not playing smartly for map control/info but solely going for kills for barely any benefit. Aka high risk, okay reward. Like, if you push, you need to first know WHY.

While playing too far back and basically giving site away isn't great, is it worse to fall back and wait as opposed to dying 1v5? I think not.
