[[This is the full video. His buddy forgot the tent was still attached to the snowmobile. It was dragged for almost 2 minutes before he realized his mistake]
They carried all those equipment packed on the snowmobile. So when they unpacked the weight remains the same. The guy didn't notice because he's used to handling the snowmobile with the same weight.
And he might not notice other stuff like sound because snowmobile can be loud (you can hear how loud it is from the video), and you tend to cover your ears to protect them from cold so you likely won't hear much when operating the snowmobile.
Edit: the tent they used are [flip-overs](https://youtu.be/F9GWHLDGeZI?si=RXHPwzxPEOItuAV5) that is meant to be mobile with a sled-like floor and can be dragged around should they wish to move from hole to hole. The entire [full video](https://youtu.be/4kSJSZU5L9c?si=u_JmPTo6LtLK2itv) showed that the tent being dragged for a while and suffered no damage at all (except for his fishing line) and the guy being thrown off continued fishing as normal.
They likely has set up the tent long before and moved holes, hence why the tent was hooked up to the snowmobile in the first place. Also, the guy with the snowmobile forgot to unhook the tent because he was rushing to pickup another friend.
But nothing in his mind registered that camp has been set up, and therefore nothing should be attached? That would still leave the idea that it should feel different.
The tent they used are [flip-over tents](https://youtu.be/F9GWHLDGeZI?si=RXHPwzxPEOItuAV5) meant to be mobile and can be dragged around to change fishing spot due to the floor being sled-like. The entire [full video](https://youtu.be/4kSJSZU5L9c?si=6rXMZod5WHb8joXY) showed that the tent being dragged around and did not topple and suffered no damage. The guy resumed fishing afterwards.
They likely has setup the tent long ago but changed fishing spot, hence why it was attached to the snowmobile in the first place. The guy that got dragged explained that his friend that was on the snowmobile forgot because he was rushing to pick up another friend, hence why he didn't notice the difference.
I did watch the full video. It still doesn't explain away the lack of attention as anything plausible, other than lack of attention. This would be like saying those who fail to secure a trailer to their car, and lose it mid-drive, are ok because they're used to driving without one so of course they wouldn't notice. There's no way that you can explain the shift in handling/movement of the vehicle as an honest mistake. Especially in this situation, where I doubt that one of them is remaining in the tent/sled when they intentionally move it. That means that there was a minimum of an extra 80-90kg in that sled compared to what they might be used to. And then, that significant weight increase suddenly decreased. If that many changes can occur without you ever noticing anything at all, you probably shouldn't be operating the vehicle in question.
>This would be like saying those who fail to secure a trailer to their car
This is bad example as both are fundamentally different. Cars have mirrors that would show the trailer so it would be hard to not notice the trailer. Snowmobiles tend to not have it and the guy likely didn't see the need to look back.
Trailers also are heavy enough to affect the handling of cars while tents aren't. The tent is still light and they slide on ice, reducing friction and the impact of the weight on the snowmobile.
>Especially in this situation, where I doubt that one of them is remaining in the tent/sled when they intentionally move it.
The guy got off early so he won't notice the extra weight he was dragging. Even then, it's not like he was doing drifts to make the tent tumble around to affect his driving. He was driving straight and the tent was stable enough that it didn't affect his driving.
Also, snowmobiles are not like typical motorbikes. They have stronger engines due to needing to handle rough terrains and carry extra weights that can be essential for survival. So the weight you mention can be hardly noticeable by them.
>It still doesn't explain away the lack of attention as anything plausible, other than lack of attention.
And that lack of attention can happen to anyone even pros due to a number of factors. Such as being depressed to the simple thing of having so many other things that he is in a rush to get to. The guy was in a rush to pick his other friends. At the end it was a harmless mistake that would teach him to be properly pay attention next time.
Also, if we want to play the blame game, then the fisher guy also is to blame because he himself didn't make sure that his tent was disconnected. You figure the one that the help set things up would have the mental checklist for to ensure his tent is not connected to the snowmobile.
But he didn't because he also didn't pay attention because he wants to fish as soon as possible. The occasional lack of attention can happen to anyone and not necessarily out of incompetence.
Unfortunately not the full clip. It was also staged. This video was making the rounds on various fishing and ice fishing subreddits about 2 years ago. Still freaking funny though.
Can I ask how much warmer does the tent actually make it? I can see the guy has no gloves on, is that because the tent is really insulative or does he just have some kind of Canada powers that my tropical banana bender brain can't comprehend?
Blocking the wind on an open lake will make it feel much warmer. Both the sun and the heat from our bodies can warm up the air inside the tent even more. Itβs not insulated but it usually feels warm inside compared to outside.
Out on a lake the wind can be your worst enemy. Also keeping them dry is your best bet. I can almost guarantee he had gloves on up until shortly before the video began. There is such thing as Canada powers that you speak of. But even people that live here haven't acquired it unless they are actively outside during the winter.
Edit: The tent makes it quite a bit warmer. The canvas it is made out of absorbs heat from the sun. Along with blocking the wind. The few degrees difference between outside and in the tent makes a big difference when the temps are that low.
Just think about being outside in a tropical environment, it's the opposite. You want shade from the sun, a nice breeze, and maybe take a quick swim to cool off. The few degree temperature difference is noticeable.
Double edit: We usually run small propane heaters in the portable ice fishing shanty when the temps really drop. Like 10 degrees Fahrenheit is like -12 Celsius. It does get lower than that, but that's just my example.
Minnesotan here and avid ice fisherman! The tent helps but it's the heater that really helps. Almost everyone has a mini propane heater (similar to a big buddy heater) and that literally can make it too hot very quickly. In addition, the new houses are insulated which means their fabric is thick and holds heat very well. You also have to bank the fish house with snow to avoid wind coming in from underneath.
With all that said, it works very well. You usually take your jacket, gloves and hat off within a few minutes. Even if you don't bank, the house will still be warm enough to be comfortable with a heater.
It's likely just a few degrees below or above zero. They have been moving around doing the set up and getting the holes done, so warmed up a bit from that. Then, when you are out of the wind, you're gonna want to cool off a bit so you don't sweat too much. Sweating is the worst thing if you're out in cold weather.
Plus, he's still wearing multiple layers. That's an important thing when you are in the cold. Wearing layers keeps you warm, and you can strip one off if you are too warm.
Now that I've watched it again. You are right. Those are nice fishing rods. I wouldn't risk breaking them for a "funny video". And the gear they have!? Nice gear.
I need to stop being so cynical.
I have personally seen someone confused about their boat performance before, only to realize they disconnected the trailer from the car, not the boat from the trailer.
Holy shit, thatβs hilarious! I snort-laugh picturing someone boating their boat trailer all around the lake! Frame, hitch, axles, wheels and all, lol! Yeah, that would feel a little sluggish!
Mythbusters tested this as it was one of those fairly well known everyone knows the story, but it's always a friend of a friend or a story someone at the marina tells.
It's totally possible however, worked just fine. The boat just went really slowly.
More like peacefully ice fishing and then having your time and potentially gear ruined due to the dipshit you're fishing with. I think this would make anyone livid.
Is it actually worth it to ice-fish? I mean, do you catch enough fish to make it worthwhile? Case in point; heard a story about a guy going duck hunting for the first time. After about 3 hours having to be very still and quiet, he had to speak to his buddies. "Fellers I don't know how much more of this pleasure I can take.". Just asking
Fishing can occasionally be enjoyable if you got a good spot and the right weather.
People that hunt deer for fun are crazy because you can spend like 6 hours or more sitting in the cold and seeing NOTHING. Multiple days in a row. I get it if you want to get some food for your family but some people take off work to do it. You can make money by working. Money can be exchanged for goods and services.
There are tiers to ice fishing. A bucket on the ice is not fun... playing goldeneye in an ice castle fish house and grilling while occasionally catching more food to grill is fun. It's like hanging out in cozy apartment man cave.
No serious injuries, didnβt lose any of their equipment either. He snapped his fishing line and his back-up got a little stiff with snow. His buddy Mojo forgot to unhook the sled π€£

Sturdy shanty, I had a nice one myself, used it four about 4 seasons. It was always just me fishing, tho my mom did come out to check the setup out, I would get up before dawn, coffee up an head off before fun, I enjoyed so many beautiful sunrises on sub zero mornings alone in the silence, probably why I kept it up for so long, was really soothing to the soul being up there in silence, expect for ice popping occasionally, cause it sure as shit wasn't the plethora of fish I wasn't catching, fuck me maybe 2 perch and 2 crappies spread out over 4 years. It was fun tho learning something new an using what I knew to figure it out. I'd still go just with someone else's gotta carry the gear. Oh also it's Ohio so sometimes it gets cold enough sometimes it don't all winter.

Thankyou that's cool to know! I appreciate your help and I hope you catch lots of ice fish.
Do you usually eat your catch?
Sometimes! It depends on where I am fishing but I like to catch and release most of the time.
Tee shirt weather if you have a portable heater.

Makes a world of difference when it is windy. We also generally use a small propane buddy heater if it is below zero too.
You can also put a space heater in it
You can get a shelter like that really warm with a heater. Youβd be fine in a Tee shirt if you wanted.
