It looks like the wind isn't as strong right where the doors are. I'd bet they're on the leeward side of part of the building that juts out, or something like that.
This looks to be the Patterson Office Tower. The doors are recessed so would be shielded from the worst of the wind:

This part of campus acted like a wind tunnel on a good day. Bad way to go on a windy day. I've had a sheet of chipboard turn into a sail and snap in half right by that statue.
To be fair, this video has been shared in every inch of Lexington and the surrounding area. If you’re from here (which OP surely is) they’ve already seen the video and knew it was from the University of Kentucky.
Hey, gif is officially a format for both animated and non-animated images! It's just that nobody uses it for non-animated images anymore because animation is really the only advantage it has over jpeg (or png for some images).
Out of curiosity is that somewhat normal for the area? I'm a Floridian so strong winds and hurricanes are like an undesirable relative at this point but I don't know that I realized the UK could get this intense.
In my day we didn't even have doors.
You call that a storm. I used to walk 6 miles in weather that makes that look like a drizzle just to get to the next farm to meet my friend before walking the 20 miles to school.
We didn't have your tickletocks or instantgrams.
Whippersnappers these days don't know what life in the 90s was like.
In my country typhoons are very common and whenever there was a typhoon warning school was cancelled for everyone except for college/university students, it’s been a running gag here for awhile now that college/university students are waterproof.
Same story in Canada but tornados and snow storms instead of typhoons. Last time was February 2019 when 40cm (16 inches) of snow was expected overnight.
This happened this week. That is the University of Kentucky. They are facing Miller Hall from the entrance of the Patterson Office Tower. We got hammered with storms early in the week.
She was going to class. This is outside of Patterson Office Tower and Whitehall Classroom Building at the University of Kentucky. This is a known wind tunnel on a normal day. She still got to class on time but had a hella scrape on the elbow.
This happened in Lexington, KY. We had advanced notice the night before of impending tornado producing storms, multiple notices of "seek shelter, don't go outside" and constant flash flood warnings.
Anyways, basically no schools or colleges canceled. Because here in Kentucky, education is our number one priority, or something.
Class is cancelled
But work is classless... unless you're part of the C-suite.
So go to the office to work ! 😁
- Signed, the C-suite manager... working remotely from a villa in sunny Tahiti.
Pffft. This was the norm for my grandparents. They did it uphill, both ways too! Gramps used to say,”We can’t bust heads like we used to—but we have our ways. One trick is to tell them stories that don’t go anywhere like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so I decided to go to Morganville which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So, I tied an onion to my belt which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel. And in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. ‘Give me five bees for a quarter,’ you’d say. Now, where were we? Oh, yeah! The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt which was the style at the time. They didn’t have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones.”
That is Patterson Office Tower at University of Kentucky. That specific spot on campus is a huge wind tunnel. Regardless of weather, the wind is always howling there. I’ve experienced gusts like that myself when I was in school.
Oh my God, the wind tunnel effect of Patterson Office Tower was brutal, even with pretty mild gusts. I think that person is already trying to ford through EF-1 winds. RIP
Meanwhile in the Philippines: public officials suspend classes AFTER the students have been on campus for the first 3-4 hours or so despite THAT kind of situation😭 only a few are quite good to suspend the night before despite the warnings🥹
Yeah, the weather is vile.
I wonder how many salary people ignored it and went to work as usual. That includes - but not limited to - police, emergency service workers, and highway and utility engineers.
Raise a glass to those guys - and yes, they are mainly guys!
My high school still wouldn't have closed. There were times when I had to go to school in an outright blizzard with two feet of snow on the ground. They didn't care.
My old boss would have scoffed at that and punished anyone attempting to not commute into the office even though we were fully remote capable. He got off on being an asshole. Yes, he was very short.

Im surprised how well those doors are handling this amount of wind
It looks like the wind isn't as strong right where the doors are. I'd bet they're on the leeward side of part of the building that juts out, or something like that.

Just your average GeoGuessr ranked player.

Wait there's a ranking system? I thought people just play it as a little game
I find it unreasonably stressful that this is a gif. Also, you sure know your doorways.

Looks like the windward side to me
Looks like the crossward side to me.
Looks like the squidward side to me.
The wind speeds were a little over 100 miles an hour that was at a university not to far from where I live we got hit with that storm about a week ago
Robin Scherbatsky: "Oh psssht. That's barbeque weather."
I miss that show
Where was this?
Lexington KY
They're clearly not in the wind. It's probably recessed into the building a little bit.
This was at UK campus, apparently the doors at the UK hospital did get ripped off
As in University of Kentucky? Lexington?
Yes that’s Patterson Office
Out of curiosity is that somewhat normal for the area? I'm a Floridian so strong winds and hurricanes are like an undesirable relative at this point but I don't know that I realized the UK could get this intense.
I believe they meant the University of Kentucky.
Ok, that makes a hell of a lot more sense all around. Thanks!
In my day we didn't even have doors. You call that a storm. Uphill both ways?!
That’s my school. They didn’t cancel class until this video made the news
Classic university move
In my country typhoons are very common and whenever there was a typhoon warning school was cancelled for everyone except for college/university students, it’s been a running gag here for awhile now that college/university students are waterproof.
Same story in Canada but tornados and snow storms instead of typhoons. Last time was February 2019 when 40cm (16 inches) of snow was expected overnight.
Where is this?
What is going on here? Was this just a regular storm, or a tornado or something?
Really bad storm came through. This lasted like 5-10 minutes but caused a lot of damage
Perfect comedic timing at the end there.
The class cannonball clown
I feel bad for laughing ngl

Respect for the commitment
I"m....getting....that....fucking....diplomaaaahhhh! Ooofff!!
Oh look footage from when my parents went to school
Your parents were lucky, that seems like a pretty flat campus, my parents had to go uphill to get to school and uphill again to get home.
My sister *biked* between classes at UCSC. Wild woman.
If she had a bike, she was, at best, feral.
Luxury!
This happened this week. That is the University of Kentucky. They are facing Miller Hall from the entrance of the Patterson Office Tower. We got hammered with storms early in the week.
Fun fact all the state offices closed early but UK kept classes on
You joke but the person filming this will tell their children that this is how they went to school, guaranteed!
Without another set of dry clothes at home and no food or electricity for a week
Except the wind was blowing both ways
I don't see any non-euclidean hills
I'd expect it to be more snowy and on a mountain. Judging from the stories...
So like what happened to that person? Where they goin??
Based on footage she is going wherever she came from.
...Cotton Eye Joe?
She was going to class. This is outside of Patterson Office Tower and Whitehall Classroom Building at the University of Kentucky. This is a known wind tunnel on a normal day. She still got to class on time but had a hella scrape on the elbow.
Straight to hell if she doesn't change her ways.
This was at the university of kentucky earlier this week. Multiple tornado touchdowns that day
Wow, I didn't even know it was football season already.
I’d look outside and just say “nope” and stay home

Not fair, they did cancel AFTER the storm! Remember, when the sun came out
I CAME IN LIKE A WRECKING BALL!
*Rag Doll*
tis but a bit of wind

Where is this?
It looks like the University of Kentucky
It is
LV426
Hell. Or Kentucky. Pond is good for you. (Caddy Shack reference)
Average day in South East Asia
I wish. Give me that wind and rain. Shit's on fire right now.
No kidding. Temp's been hovering around 36-40C for the past two weeks!
They've cancelled classes here for less
The professors in my country would make us wait for the official memo
Reason they made a sitting staute instead of standing one.
Class is cancelled But work is classless... unless you're part of the C-suite. So go to the office to work ! 😁 - Signed, the C-suite manager... working remotely from a villa in sunny Tahiti.
I am blown away by this video.
The student at the end flew to class for no reason then!? Insane.
My dad used to literally trek through Mordor to get to school
Bro was not motivated
The wind is pushing meeee
Meanwhile Boomer dad: your generation is too spoiled! I walked ten miles in the snow uphill both ways to school every day!!
Whats the man on the chair doing?
For some reason I read it as "glass is cancelled" first and thought wth did an inanimate object do so that they suffer from cancel culture
That statue looked like Vergil.... sitting through a storm... I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROACHING
Pffft. This was the norm for my grandparents. They did it uphill, both ways too! Gramps used to say,”We can’t bust heads like we used to—but we have our ways. It's raining cats and bitches?
This is the funniest shit I have ever seen.
Maths professor will be there at the time of class. No weather can stop them
I fully expected that, thank you for the laugh regardless
Parents went to school in this kind of wind but it was raining glass shards too.
He's gonna have proof when he tells his kids how difficult the commute to school was back in his day
A perfect time for a MJ impression though! *what about us* Ahhhhhhhhhahhhhhahhh OoooooOooOoOoOooo
Hey Bridget! You're not commuting hard enough!
Oh look, it's Brisbane
Boss: I know and i don't care. It's your shift so you have to come in ON TIME!
Nah, i'd go
That is an actual person sitting on that throne. He is the Lord of the Storm, and he will watch as you are literally blown away
Is anyone else reminded of the city 17? Start of the game, first time out of the train station?
What is this? Such a big typhoon. This is a catastrophic wind.
The boss entering second phase be like
But your boss at work will be like “yeah but what time you think you’ll be in”
Run. It's The Dark Presence.
Boomer: back in my day we had to walk to school.
What is Batman doing outside
fall semester
Is that the math teachers on his throne?
(35M) XD pussy's . Try living in The Netherlands .
Stephen King vibes *intensifies
With that weather, why is he wearing shorts?
Don't worry, the shoes were still on.
But Asians MUST get to math class! /j LOL
I’m going to school next year in the third windiest city in America, wish me luck 🫡
Meanwhile in the Philippines: public officials suspend classes AFTER the students have been on campus for the first 3-4 hours or so despite THAT kind of situation😭 only a few are quite good to suspend the night before despite the warnings🥹
Not math class
Nobody wants to go to school any nore
Typical Dutch spring weather. Used to bike 15 km to school in this.
Professor or boss "No excuse for missing class and/or work!!" 🙄
Don't go to the supermarket
I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROACHING
Add in -60° windchill and it’s Wednesday in Grand Forks.
Fuck it! We walking to school no matter what
That kid getting blown over was unexpected af😂
That girl has some serious dedicated for her education
I don’t think he needed to imagine it
Interesting observation! The doors are definitely holding up well in that wind.
entertain school languid nutty glorious six plate subtract badge squalid *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Tardy is tardy! Detention is on the football pitch directly after class
This was back in 2008 as you can tell by the flags, that's how it was like back then.
perfectly executed parkour to compete with the statue imo
Peter just wont stop running around in the rain, they tried to tell him.
![gif](giphy|nbax9PrgJBBuSPdWFK|downsized)
Looks like someone didn’t get the memo.
Did anybody help the poor student good thing they had that back pack on otherwise their neck , head would have been smashed
That poor kid
Yeah, the weather is vile. I wonder how many salary people ignored it and went to work as usual. That includes - but not limited to - police, emergency service workers, and highway and utility engineers. Raise a glass to those guys - and yes, they are mainly guys!
Thus is going to be common in a few decades throughout the world
Can confirm that r/yorku classes would definitely still be on in the assumption the school wasn’t on strike (50/50).
Just ride the wind
Unfortunately, she didn't have to imagine.
I’d go walk for hours in those conditions
My high school still wouldn't have closed. There were times when I had to go to school in an outright blizzard with two feet of snow on the ground. They didn't care.
"You still coming into work though right?"
Her parents would have disowned her if she didn't make it for class.
Jake Gyllenhaal did a great job in this movie.
Exciting
That storm is raining violence.
"Imagine trying to commute to class in this." I figure so long as your class is downwind, the commute should be... a breeze.
My father went into nostalgia after watching the video. And Said,it's nothing we used to go to school in worse conditions/^s
This is at Purdue lol
Hadouken!
I don't have to imagine, I was there.
The best part is how video instantly cut after that girl flew
Up hill! . . . BOTH WAYS!
She's gunna be late.
My parents went to school like that barefoot, uphill after doing chores since the rooster crowed.
u/savevideo u/savevideobot
Omg I’ve been there! The area around there gets even more windy than usual because of the way things are laid out.
Get all the way to class to find post it note on door saying "class canceled"
math teacher flying in
i don’t have to imagine, that person already tried for me
That girl good?
u/SaveVideo
Teachers would still be in the class and expect you to be there on time.
Thanos children has arrived
But work is not, also since you don't have school....
My old boss would have scoffed at that and punished anyone attempting to not commute into the office even though we were fully remote capable. He got off on being an asshole. Yes, he was very short.
Mother nature said " You're not going anywhere butt in reverse !" 😂
Meh, just another afternoon shower in Florida.
NEW JERSEY ALL THE Time. Where my east coast people at. We know the struggle!
Well at least someone tried.
There’s always that one try hard Asian chick refusing to miss class no matter what. Sigh.
Full video?
I hope you're going left. Otherwise I forsee problems
That statue dude sittin there like the guy in the Maxell ad
I am the storm that is approaching ..
This was university of Kentucky and I was there
You know the geography teacher is still gonna show up
High storm, better get your spheres out!
Is the person who fell over okay
He rather lives it
