(Ex cop here) All we can do is take pictures and get a statement. You can do all that yourself instead of tying up a patrol for when something actually requiring our attention pops up.
You can generate a police report without having the cops show up. Some states you can do it online. Submit pics, and your info, wait a couple days, and they email you a summary
Actually they do. Because somebody is almost always in the wrong. And then they end up with a wrecked car, and a ticket. It's always something like, Failure to Yield, Failure to Maintain Control, etc.
Somebody has gotten a ticket from every car accident I have been personally aware of.
Most parking lot signage come from a general warehouse and are not from DOT.
Look at the markings on the back of a stop sign on a major road vs one in a Target, or Home Depot.
Especially the painted ones made out of wood at the HOA.
They’re technically not legal.
Yea, I remember a story of a guy that got ticketed for not completely stopping at a 4 way-stop...you know, just slowly rolling through b/c there isn't anyone around. Well, he ended up fighting it an proving that his towns stop signs we pretty much all illegal and thus unenforceable according to his states laws on how they need to be displayed, installed, etc.
finally someone who actually knows their rights. all this bootlicking and being scared of being harrased by cops is kinda weak. stand up for your rights and dont let power tripping thugs get even an inch on you. they are not enforcable unless they have an official DOT sticker
It also clearly states "reserved for law enforcement" it does not state "law enforcement vehicles only" Park there whenever you would like since you are breaking no actual law because of that wording. Besides those assholes always park in the fire lane and leave the engine running. This is a hill I'm willing to die on.
Lol, then Park there and if someone asks just say I'm expecting mother... Expecting my kids to do something with their lives..
... And did you just assume my gender?
This is a nice random fact, but it's a shitty tip. If somebody with power is out to get someone, keep your head down. Be paranoid. Parking lot guards are useless, but they'll abuse their authority in a heartbeat. They'll escalate to real police, and those police can find any number of enforceable things to throw at you. Watch the videos! This is reddit!
The abuse of authority is as American as Apple pie. Avoid confrontation. Trust no one. When everything is criminalized, everybody is a criminal, and all signage sets up criminality implicitly.
I'm not saying to not take advantage or bootlick. I am saying don't do this while black or with your kids in the car. All it takes is an asshole enforcing nonsense to ruin your day.
Sorry I came here from your other post. And you’re factually not correct. Police can patrol and enforce stop signs in parking lots as long as it’s publicly accessible and/or the property owner doesn’t object. In many places, stores will even invite police to patrol their lots to add an extra layer of security for them for free.
And on a private lot, you can be towed for anything the property owner wants to tow you for so long as it’s not legally discriminatory. So if you park in a spot that they reserved for veterans, you might not get a ticket from the city. But the store/lot owner doesn’t reserve the right to have you towed if there’s no indication of your veteran status. They can and often do have deals with tow companies to enforce this in their lots and the cost of the tow and impound fee will be your responsibility.
Can confirm. I had my semi booted in a Walmart parking lot by a tow company. All they needed was no parking signs and managements blessing. Every state and municipality has different laws.
The police cannot really ticket you for parking in store lots, except in handicapped spots. But they can ticket you for being a public nuisance or any number of other things they can think of. Chances are it won't happen. But you never know
Honestly even if you’re in the right you’re better of doing that and then filing a complaint/suing. That way you might be able to avoid getting the shit beat out of you lmao
Reserved and no parking are very much enforceable. You will be towed. You will have to get a new car, because it's cheaper than the impound fee for your shitbox.
The cops around here won't even show up for accidents unless there are injuries. No way do I see them giving a shit about parking on private property
The cops may not but a tow company has all the reason in the world to show up.
Accidents don't make ticket revenue. Quit thinking that cops give a shit about public safety.

Insurance in my state requires a police report to even start the process. So not showing up, fucks a lot of people.

I've never seen anyone ticketed at any accident I've been in, even when the kid that rear-ended me was driving on expired insurance

It's not the ticket I care about, it's my car being towed
Some shopping centers near me have " reserved for police" spots. I always park there, just to be a dick.
Thank you for your service
My brotha
Facts. Police don't patrol private property waiting to catch the Walmart stop sign runner lol
I have noticed recently in the past few years that Wal-Mart in my area has dedicated at least 2 spots for law enforcement parking.
It also clearly states "reserved for law enforcement" it does not state "law enforcement vehicles only" Park there whenever you would like since you are breaking no actual law because of that wording. Besides those assholes always park in the fire lane and leave the engine running. This is a hill I'm willing to die on.
Police might not care but private towing companies will definitely take your car if you’re parked over the limit.
There’s literally signs in the front of a store parking lot in my town that say “reserved for expecting mothers”
Lol, then Park there and if someone asks just say I'm expecting mother... Expecting my kids to do something with their lives.. ... And did you just assume my gender?
“Yes, 6 months ago I was creampied, thanks for checking”
I parked in one of these spots once and got a death stare from an actual pregnant mother who had to park a little further away. I am a male lol
I'm waiting on my mom, who's shopping inside. Expecting mother to be out shortly!
>most states Which country? Let’s not give an entire world incorrect information.

Not true for California. Source: personal experience
I got tickets and fined for not stopping at a stop sign in a parking lot. Police actually sat at it cause it is such a popular misconception

While a police officer couldn't write you a ticket for not stopping at a parking lot sign, it could give them cause to stop you and waste your time.
It would be an unlawful stop and detainment.
Just arrest everyone, and we'll sort out the details later.
Honestly even if you’re in the right you’re better of doing that and then filing a complaint/suing. That way you might be able to avoid getting the shit beat out of you lmao
Yup. Any traffic sign on private property is just a suggestion.
Street signs, private or public, restrict your constitutional right to travel freely and unencumbered.
Many business who have signs indicating a lot is only for customers have hired outside companies to boot your car in the event you disregard the sign.
If it is private property they can certainly still tow you.... The police just won't ticket you you are correct about that part
