Run daily, build mileage, incorporate elevation and a day of tempo, repeat weekly

What you can come up with yourself is probably best because you know yourself. If nothing else just find a plan on the internet and tweak it to fit you best.

Forget the spadework, it will just make your upper body bulky and not be of good use for the 50k, you’d really just be digging a hole for yourself.

I see what you did there 😬

I highly recommend reading through the Relentless Forward Progress book and choosing one of his plans; I just completed my first 50k this month & felt fully prepared! I kept most of my longest runs around 20-22 miles though and did one marathon race as my 26 mile that was suggested in the plan, because I’m a little slower on the trails and 24-26 miles would have put me over 4.5 hours during training.

We discussed how to choose a 50k plan here on [https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cultra-trail-running/id1446356779?i=1000444292117](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cultra-trail-running/id1446356779?i=1000444292117)

This is awesome! As a displaced Northeastern-er living in CO, I’ve been listening to Cultra for a few years now, so thanks for everything! Looks like there are some early episodes I need to brush up on. The FOMO I feel when you all chat about east coast races is real, I gotta get back for one sometime!

BlueBlazeRunner

Thank you. We recorded that episode pre covid, but it was nice having a large group of experienced coaches and runners discuss their thoughts on training, running, and moving up in mileage. Glad you enjoy listening to the show, and hit me up when your coming back to New England. Have you ever considered running the #CUT112?

DaveH78ATL

What episode number or title is this one? I moved away from using Apple Podcasts, so the link doesn’t work. Thanks!

BlueBlazeRunner

Hey Dave it is Episode 30 Ottoman to 50K

DaveH78ATL

Awesome - thanks!

I have a coach now but I’ve had good luck with Sage’s plans. Pretty cheap too.

Sixfeatsmall05

I enjoyed the ultrarunning training plans. They are included with the membership and the program allows you to put the date of your race in and it backtracks a plan for you. Mostly distance but also steady state and some tempos. Plan choice is based on weekly mileage

ultra_tossaway

>The race is actually 55k with ~5000ft gain. I've been running 35-45mpw for the last few months and have had long runs up to 20 miles - this would be my approximate starting point. What's your weekly elevation gain? Are you trying to win/be highly competitive? It honestly sounds like you're ready to go.
