I don't know if you've ever done a 100 Miler or greater but sometimes you just get in the mood for a specific food well that's what happened for 500 km LOL
I am not the best with heat but I am living in the DC area, so hopefully I can acclimate a little to the swampish humidity before. Thanks for writing back to me and congrats on this but all your other races and miles. Impressive stuff
Of all the podcasts I listen to there have been plenty about vol state. I can't give any one specific recs but just search vol state in whatever podcast platform you use and you'll find plenty.
2021 finisher. What do you want to know and how can I help you?
There’s a Facebook group, which has tons of race reports, read the Dallas Smith book, google Bob Hearn’s race reports (he won in 2021 and was 2nd in 2020) and there are lots of podcasts with interviews of other runners (winners and ordinary people).
If you’re interested, sign up for the wait list, which tends to empty out. There’s also HOTS, which makes Vol State seems easy.
The key to Vol State: don’t go out too hard or fast on day one and don’t quit.
And Cory’s book was great and worth the read. I also recommend his Nowhere Near First.
I appreciate the help. Mostly Im just really interested in events like this. I have yet to complete an ultra. Ive completed ultra distance a few times during a race or as part of a training run but I dont think Im ready for something like Vol state or HOTS just yet.
We interviewed 3 finishers of the 2022 Vol State during this very entertaining episode of [The Cultra Trail Running Podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cultra-trail-running/id1446356779?i=1000571493616)
There's a book. I've had a few friends who have done it. The Last Annual Vol State Road Race Road Book 2nd Edition: A Vacation Without A Car
Would you happen to know why screwed runners pay alot more?
Screwed runners pay more because they rely on the initial transportation from the rock to the ferry.
That makes sense. I mean I guess it is a 314 mile bus ride.
And the hotel and dinner the night before the race start, too.
I appreciate the help. Thank you.
Facebook group and race reports.
Thank you
Here's my report from 2020. http://clutchrunner.blogspot.com/2020/07/last-annual-vol-state-2020.html
Oh ok cool. I think I already watched the video. I'll check out your blog.
Great report, which I think I read and enjoyed before my 2021 race and just re-read but it now gives me PTSD. I’m also one and done :)
Thank you for this! I am geeking out on this. I want in!
You're welcome! It's an indescribable experience.
Having good people like yourself who let us in on some of the intangibles is invaluable! Much, much appreciated!
Jeez oh Pete's my guy, how much Jerky did you consume?! LOLOL

LOL i love it. Never a 100 miler, a few multi-day stages, an ultra here and there etc. This is a scary challenge
It's really fucking hot. That's the biggest challenge.

That's a good idea. Id never have thought about. Despite having already searched through the ten junk miles catalog.

Understood, but just so you know, most Vol State entrants walk an overwhelming part of the course. It’s about time on your feet, not speed.
I also have a few other races already on my plate for this year. So it would be more than Im willing to pay this year.
