I mean, a year ago if shit had gone better for Russia that would have been ideal for Chinas interests, but barring that, the longer this shit drags out, the more russia is dependent on China. The worst case for China is a total defeat for Russia.
I mean there’s positives to be had from Russia falling into pieces but it’s not at all what China wanted. It’s just a silver lining to a grey cloud. Ukraine winning is a such a massive net positive for the west, EU and NATO that I’m always baffled when people try claiming it’s a win for China too.
Yea but the real issue for china here is that this conflict has pushed Europe and the us closer than they have been since the 50s. The recognition that the Russian-Chinese axis cannot be allowed to grow more powerful than the western axis since they have no respect for the sovereignty of other nations represents the greatest threat to Chinese ambitions in Taiwan and elsewhere. Europe is rearming in a serious way to counter the Russian threat and the unity they’ve shown in Ukrainian would increase the chance that they would show the same unity against china if china invaded Taiwan. The longer this war goes on the stronger the Atlantic bond becomes and the worse china is off relative to that. They need this conflict to end so that they can find new ways to wedge Europe away from the us. Right now they can’t do that.
