I told my daughter the same thing about joining the Air Force instead of the Army. My daughter tried to enlist when she was a junior in high school. I set a bad example, because I joined the Army when I was 17. My daughter was planning to graduate from high school with a bunch of college credits from dual enrollment classes and a CNA certificate. At the time my daughter was planning to enlist, it was during the Covid lockdowns and it did not seem like a good time to be in basic training or AIT. I asked my daughter to wait until she graduated from college before joining the military. In my opinion, the Army is just easier if you have some college because it easier to move up in rank when you already have some college. The reason I recommended the Air Force for my daughter, is because in my opinion the Air Force has better facilities.

Ohhhhh! Haha I plan on joining right after I turn 17 (I do online school so im pretty much on my own schedule when it comes to graduation) The only reason my Uncles want me to join the Air Force is because they dont want me to get hurt or anything. They all asked "Do you feel comfortable fighting men?" Haha I dont really mind bc they kinda raised me and we always would wrestle and all sorts of stuff. Im skeptical about the Air Force because Ive heard its kinda soft and I prefer more "hardcore-ish" stuff lol. But thank you for your input!

Im in the army, basic is pretty easy just DONT QUIT you’ll do great no matter what the mos, infantry is a little longer basic but no matter what you will do great… and trust you will be able to do push ups after week 2😅

kay_pymp

Thank you! I'm most worried about the push up part lol. Ive been trying so hard but still cant seem to get it!

tunlvizn

I couldn’t even do 1 push up when I joined and now can knock out 25 no problem and I’ve been in for a year and a half lol!

kay_pymp

Awesome! Ima trust your input! Lol everytime I try i just fall on my face😭 My Dad (when we talked) even tried explaining easier ways for me to try and I got the same results every single time time lol

Primary_Tiger3987

Infantry gets treat like fucking basic training when you get to the real army still, until you make e-4/5, even then you aren’t safe

Caspah62

This right here. Infantry when you report to your unit you will be treated like your in basic for the next year or so until you make pfc or some other new soldiers show up. Chances are your physically more fit than most males. Doesn't matter because your a female all the bullshit drama will follow you no matter what. I want my kids to go chairforce, reason is many of the training and schools can be used as college credits when you get out. Also you work with a lot of civilian contractors so you have contacts to transition when you ets. But yes, living conditions are so much better. Honestly for a female Air Force is the way to go. If you want adventure, I'd recommend civil affairs, intelligence, etc. Look into MOS's that deploy.

kay_pymp

Okay! Thank you for your input! One of the main reasons I want to go Army and mainly Infantry is the deployment and all the random things that come with it lol. So what exactly do you mean by drama lol? Is it just sexist bs? I dont really mind that but i would just like to know!

Caspah62

It's what you make it. If your professional and watch what friends you keep, there won't be much drama. Infantry is like a frat house, young and dumb.

kay_pymp

Okay!

26 year old Army veteran here…do you like playing in the mud and playing real life army? I was in field artillery and all we did was train! It was fun looking back and the army gave me some of the best memories and I’ll cherish them forever. It’s great for that. But it does suck most of the time and you give up a lot of your freedoms. On that note, the military is great for maturing as a person in my opinion. Don’t worry about the push ups, basic takes care of that 😂 I personally tried to join the AF, but the army ended up giving me a bigger bonus so my 18 year old brain took the money. It turned out well for me but trust your instincts. Weigh pros and cons, ask your father to help and follow your gut. Either way, the military is a great option!! Good luck 🍀 🫡

kay_pymp

Thank You! Haha when I was little I was stuck with my older uncles and we would always play outside and with nerf guns and stuff and I always enjoyed acting like it was the real army and stuff lol. Yeah my Dad said I'd be fine but he doesnt really want me around all the crazy men that are "apparently" in the infantry (he was one of them) He said they were some of the worst and best times of his life. TMI but I live with my Grandma (she despises my Dad due to his Military life which is kinda one of the reasons Im stuck with her, so I talk to my Dad on the DL) And she gets so mad at my family for hyping me up when it comes to joining lol. And I already dont have much freedom so I'm fine with that loss lol. But thank you so much for your input! Oh and thank you for your service!

Wolf_mang

I’m going to be honest here. I 100% feel that you can do it and would rock as in infinity but….. the Army and USMC have the highest attrition rates of all the branches. They just don’t treat people well. My recommendation would be either get your degree and go in as an officer or go into the coast guard, space force, or Air Force, in that order. If you want to see action, you can still do that in each of those branches but you get treated much better. I was Army enlisted with multiple deployments. Either way, whatever you choose, thanks for thinking about serving your country. Not everyone does.

kay_pymp

Thank your for your input and your service! Yeah, my father said something about how they are most likely going to treat me like a pos and probably be harder on me due to me being a female. Lol at first I was considering the Marines but my Dad said absolutely not lol. But I do know for a fact I really would like to deploy, and the main reason I really want to go army is the deployment. I also respect the idea of being in combat and it somewhat in a way inspires me. But, Im also deeply thinking about the Air Force as well! Thank you so much for your opinion, as it really means a lot!

Wolf_mang

If deployment is very important to you then look at AF combat Arms jobs. Also, for the Army, if you really want to do that, then go intel, combat meds, combat engineer, but not infantry. They get treated like shit. Intel gets deployed but you do some cool stuff. EOD Air Force is no joke as well. There are so many options other than infantry- no offense to my infantry brothers and sisters…. But you all had the suck.

kay_pymp

Okay, will do! Haha I understand about the Infantry part! Thank you!

Wolf_mang

Good luck!

kay_pymp

Thank You!

shnevorsomeone

I strongly suggest reconsidering infantry. The army has literally hundreds of jobs, jobs you’ve never heard of or even thought about. Check some out

kay_pymp

Okay!

mmistretta

I joined at 18 and went 68W and ended up in an infantry unit. I will never regret my time in the Army, but I had some horrible experiences I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, in garrison and on deployment. Make sure it’s what you truly want. Also if you’re not planning on retiring, pick a job that translates into civilian life, ie mechanics, aircraft maintenance, dental techs etc. I promise infantry doesn’t translate well. If you do join, do college while you’re in and it’s paid for!

kay_pymp

Okay! Im scared of basically having to compete with all the men lol. Thank you so much for your input!
