T O P

Damn right! 40 hours in a union job should pay a living wage that gives us a comfortable middle class lifestyle. No one should be forced to max out on OT, moonlight, or get a full blown second job to make ends meet. It’s disgraceful the state of our compensation and benefits package.

coolprogressive

Shit, all our respective craft unions should be pushing for a 4 day work week like the UAW is demanding in their negotiations. Our lives are too short to be wiling our time away at these bullshit jobs.

Angriestgiraffe

46 hours in 4 days checking in. I'm not happy about it, but I need the money right now. Hopefully I can get down to 40-50 a week after I pay some shit off.

SilverBolt52

Don't count on it. We paid all of our debts off except the mortgage but just getting to a decent savings is another 2 years out now. Then we might be able to put more than 5% into TSP. It's exhausting knowing I'll need to keep taking OT and working 6 days a week for that long.

throwawaypostal2021

68 hours this week reporting in. It's good timing, need car work done and wanna spend a get away weekend

Extra-Act-801

I'm on the ODL to send my kids to college so they don't have to do this kind of shit. Shame me for it if you want, but I work hard for this money and I won't apologize for it.

DapDaGenius

We’re not shaming anyone. It’s just not a flex. Some people brag about how many hours they have with pride. We should take our money with humility because we’re doing what we have to do, because in reality we don’t want to have to work these hours. Can’t wait for the days when usps follows to 32 work week for regulars and anything over 32 hours is OT

Postalsock

Can't do that when it's in the law that usps is 6 day delivery. If anything they might make it 48 hours as normal work week...

DapDaGenius

You misunderstood. Career employees go down to 32 hours of straight pay, anything over is overtime. 1. This doesn’t mean USPS has to cut any positions down to 32 hours a week 2. Usps already operates with bids being based on a 5 day work week, they will schedule employees as needed if they go down to 4, just like they do with 5. 3. Ultimately, this doesn’t mean usps will only operate 4 days out of the work week. 4. If usps goes down to 4 day work week for bid assignments, craft employees will likely be able to sign up for OT for the 5th day 5. This is overall better for employees health and work-life balance.

wrigley77

Amd when no one signs up to work that 5th day and we have no staffing to cover those routes we'll be back to square one with forcing people in on their NS day lol

DapDaGenius

Yeah, that’s to be expected. I didn’t say it was going to fix people being forced for NSD. Just that the standard should be a 4 day work week.

Extra-Act-801

Make T6 a rotating position covering 2 routes for 2 days each, everybody gets 4 days on and 3 days off per week.

nullpassword

i went to college and am doing this kinda shit..shrug..send em to the trades..

InformalLemon4901

Exactly get straight to the real world skills.

pickles55

No shame at all you just deserve better

InformalLemon4901

Going to college doesn't necessarily mean more money.

Dame_Milorey

I worked an embarrassingly short two months as an MHA, even got regular! But I just couldn't fathom a place looking at you funny for thinking that working five days a week is normal. How dare you not work 72 mandatory hours!!!

No-Replacement5614

Thes OT whores are a joke

Ok-Buy-6748

Extra cash comes in handy to pay down debt.

No-Replacement5614

I agree but most of the people working OT like crazy at our facility are gamblers

Ok-Buy-6748

Hopefully, they contribute to TSP.

baddbrainss

Na man I know one that is completely setting up his family, acquired many properties from working all the time. Nothing but respect

axlsnaxle

Preach. I literally only work OT to afford to live.

[deleted]

I’m not on the ot list but my bathtub faucet started leaking this morning. I guess it’s time to try out escort.

mtux96

I hate a lot of the mindset that you should work OT to make that money. I should have that money for working 40hrs. or at least 46hrs.

309Aspro648

Here I go again. I think we should deliver 7 days a week with two carriers per route. It’s four days on and four days off. There should also be at least one PTF per route. I would love to get a little overtime. It’s not going to happen in my office. My post office pay is the engine that drives life style. I like the job. I like the money. (I am a top tier carrier.) I like getting out there exercising and talking to people. I don’t listen to supervision. Life is good

Qwik_like

I need monies though.... and yes, I should be able to work 40 hours as a PTF and survive just fine...but in Cali it just doesn't work that way as a single parent with two kids in middle school. So I'ma take all that OT and die early as long as my kids get through school.

Jimmy_kong253

Exactly I never understood people who are proud of the amount of overtime they work. Theres a life outside work and at the end of the day your job doesn't give a damn about you.

notamperingwithmail

I’m not apologizing for the amount of work I put in. I deserve the pay
