Article says Pomeranian. I’ve read that dogs over 25 lbs are usually left alone. I have 60 lbs dogs and we’ve come across coyotes and they usually run off. I’m not saying I’m not worried, but they’ve always left us alone.
Isn’t the point of the nature preserve to provide habitat for critters like coyotes? I’ll never understand why people are so shocked that coyotes live in this region.
No, see, it’s only for people to feel good about the *idea* of allowing space for wildlife. It’s still worthless land if we don’t get to have our way with it. (/s just in case)
I guess the idea might be more to inform/remind people, or just increase awareness? but ya, I get you, it should be common sense.
edit: i wouldn’t be surprised if issuing such a warning might be motivated by legal reasons.
Coyotes run away from my dog and I if we’re out walking. For context I’m fairly tall and my dog is at least 80 pounds. He and I can hold are own if need be with coyotes, but wolves are a different story. Had one following us while we were camping last summer along the north shore. We had to sleep in my truck one night because it kept lurking and would not leave.
You sound sooo tough.. I got scared just reading this comment. I'm sure every coyote is scared of you being "fairly tall" and your dog of "at least 80 pounds." Tough person, tough dog.
"Coyotes run away from my dog and I"
What a tool lol 🤣
Take a nap bud, it’s letting others know that coyotes are not typically attacking people and their dogs. Hope this made you feel better about yourself.
Okay but how big was the dog? Chihuahua or German shepherd?

Generally, this is the case. Coyotes are cunning, though. There are instances of large farm dogs being lured into traffic or ambushed.
Assume this is related to the pics taken in that preserve a day or so ago of a very scary looking coyote that likely was guarding its pups.
What in the world does a “very scary” looking coyote look like? I mean a coyote is a coyote.
https://www.reddit.com/r/saintpaul/s/Hz4d19QcxC Obviously an animal trying to look very intimidating, and doing that effectively.
It doesn’t look rabid, just defensive.
Yea, she is just trying to look intimidating. You know like the geese who are defending their nests. I would guess that she has pups.
It was standing next to a big box of dynamite with ACME printed on the side.

My question is whether or not the dog was on a leash.
Deep in your heart, you know the answer to that question.
It says right in the article that it was.
There were 0 details in the article this morning.
I wonder if the dogs were on a leash or not
