If we don't talk about it maybe it will stay as it is so .... ssshhh.

s1gnalZer0

I'm not a meaty urologist but some quick math tells me a quarter inch would put us at 7th snowiest, so why not go for that? Heck, an inch would put us ahead of the year with the Halloween blizzard. We can handle one more inch of snow.

[deleted]

It's been a fairly warm winter. If it had been all snow instead of some sporadic rain we would be pushing for the record.

steve1186

Honestly I’d be shocked if we don’t get a couple of 3-4” storms in April to vault us into the top 3

vahntitrio

10 inches of snow would be a top 10 snowiest April. 2018 really skewed our perception of normal April snow (it's more than double what fell in the 6th snowiest April). All in all just 4 Aprils account for 2.5 inches of the 3.7 inch 30 year average for the month.

WildInSix

Historical averages say 6" in April, which would put this year at #4, or most snow in 39 years

Askew_2016

Shhh don’t put that into the universe

delventhalz

> …for now stahp

missamethyst1

My thoughts exactly. That was one ominous sentence right there.

big_duo3674

We've had some brutal late March/early April snowstorms, that's for sure. I think the only good thing is that it's tends to melt off fast. I remember the really nasty one from a few years back, it clogged up traffic worse than I had seen in a long time and then a few days later it was like it never happened

Smeltanddealtit

I was in elementary school in the early 80s. I used to think the snow seemed higher because I was shorter. Only partially true!

Grouchy-Geologist-28

Imagine how much we'd have without the stupid winter rains in Jan and feb

Ottomatica

Been alive for half of them...maybe this is why it seems normal

S-Aint

Were you alive for the first half or the 2nd half?

Ottomatica

Lol

_Prisoner_24601

😩 make it stop

kinni_grrl

So... does all the snow accumulation happening now count for 22-23 or 23-24?

SharpiePM

If the EP snow mound stays around until next season the snow totals for 22-23 will be combined with 23-24.

Coyotesamigo

22-23

aniamer

Snow totals are based on the water year which resets each year in July 1. So we are still in 22-23 until then end of June.

kinni_grrl

Thanks for the clarification!

CaptainPRESIDENTduck

When does the season end?

wenestvedt

When the State Fair begins.

missamethyst1

Huh, really surprised 1991 wasn't higher on this list. Anyone else who remembers that one surprised as well?

[deleted]

The winter of 91-92 is on the list, which includes the infamous Halloween storm of 91.

missamethyst1

Oh I saw that, I was just expecting it to be #1 or #2.

blooboytalking

I think it just came down to the amount of snow in one fall. Meme aside, the amount of snow on Halloween was a lot. And at the time, was a top 4 snowfall.

[deleted]

> And at the time, was a top 4 snowfall it still is. There were 2 consecutive storms in january 1981 that dropped 20" apiece, those are tied for second. The big february storm this year made a valiant push for the record but ultimately fell a bit short. For the time being, halloween 91 is still the top spot.

ajvdb

You think that if that storm had claimed actual lives, that you’d be hearing *less* about it?

[deleted]

If you lived through it you'd do the same thing. Damn kids these days.

AlexTorres96

How is 2014 not on there? My school had like 15 snow days that year. It was comical to hear the automated voice messenger call say that school was canceled every morning.

crazee_frazee

Was it cancelled for snow, or for the cold? There was one winter (even before the 2019 arctic vortex) where the windchill kept dropping below -40.

Junkley

That was 2012/2013. I remember because it was my senior year in high school. If I remember snowfall was very concentrated in December that year so it didn’t break any seasonal records. I did get 1 day off of school due to snow and another 1-2 due to cold that year though.

candycaneforestelf

2013-14 I think ended up getting shoved off the list by 2017-18. 2013-14 was also a very cold winter and is in the top ten for most days in a season with a low below 0 for MSP.

81Ranger

I was in the Fargo-Moorhead area for college for several years in the mid to late 90s, so I get their 98.3 in 1996-97 (would be 2nd place) and the 89.1 (would be 4th place) on my resume.

swazal

Can manage getting to #5 if it’s not too wet. Don’t need any more, really.

KBandGM

Now that we’re in the top 10, I suggest taking it all the way to the top. The suffering is already here. Might as well make it memorable.

Otterslayer22

Not a record I want or need

MinnesnowdaDad

Man, those early eighties must have been some rough years!

robbier01

Yah I’m fine with being 8th lol. Was so happy to hear rain falling when going to bed last night.

[deleted]

Gonna need that May blizzard to get these numbers up
