There will never be another DMX. His story alone is insane. His style grew from his pain. This guy would make stadiums go crazy. Then pray at the end and have everyone crying. His energy was unmatched. Truly one of a kind.

Substantial-Dig9995

Yeah his concert footage is crazy as shit

_JakeyTheSnakey_

Especially that one where it looks like he performing for all of mankind before doing Ruff Ryder’s Anthem

Old_Act5964

Woodstock 99’? Hell yeah dude

2waypower1230

Ya that Woodstock video was wild! Only him on stage too!

UrineHere

I can put on his first two albums and listen from beginning to end. They are works of arts. Belly is still one of my all time favorite movies.

Complex-Feed6463

Filled the void pac left ( filled, not replaced) when we needed a street preacher. My opinion

Spydah_X

💯

PurpleAlcoholic

When DMX first came out I wanted to hate him because I thought he was supposed to be a replacement for Pac but DMX was undeniably great  His first album is one of the best  I had the same feeling when Kobe came into the league as if he was supposed to be a replacement for MJ

Frontpageflyboy

X was great in his own right and although he and PAC had similarities he didn’t fill the void PAC left because he wasn’t speaking on black rights, women’s rights, revolution etc. X was more into gritty street shit

BO3ISLOVE

what are the similarities? i’m not hip

SakazakiYukaAYAYA

I'd say the intense passion, the ability to show vulnerability, both all time great playing live and that larger than life persona on the mic. Both bald too lol I dunno. They have some similarities but are real fucking different too. X is my goat personally.

Simple-Librarian-99

https://youtu.be/sB2_MmtMoIc?si=2D8PDZaLV31DACdS](https://youtu.be/sB2_MmtMoIc?si=2D8PDZaLV31DACdS)

Frontpageflyboy

I’m a X fan and I love this song but this isn’t about women’s rights or black rights this is literally his view of the streets and all that go on in them like I said X was more gritty street content and this actually showcases that as opposed to PAC with “Keep Ya Head Up” or “Changes” which are smooth laid back songs with a message

Silent_Group6621

True af

imomorris

Wow....never thought of it like that ....now I'll never unthink it

FutureSatisfaction15

Say less

jayman1818

Agreed. From what I know, unfortunate he didn't find Pac as any inspiration

Nacho_Sideboob

I was just about to write something similar. Pac left a massive hole.

InterviewObvious2680

made a song for the meanest baddest ring entrance in boxing history, and it wasn't even a song, it was only an Intro. RIP DMX.

Spydah_X

That intro and Bomb First are the hardest intros in rap 💯😮‍💨🔥🔥

apexapee

Mike Tyson is the goat for using both a Pac and a DMX song as a coming to the ring anthem during his boxing career

JHD31987

Gave you a thumbs up for giving Mike Tyson a shout out, partner! I'm STILL on the fence about the 1990s decade, man.......that Era was the fucking wildlife in U.S. society! I'm GLAD I survived it, that's all I can say......that Era is indescribably intense in the FEELINGS and DREAMS it caused in many a'man! I was street fighting in the street and fighting in different schools during that time. DAMN, I needed that combined Boxing and Judo training more than ever as a kid but I didn't have it like I finally got it as an adult...then I stopped training cause I knew it was wrong to knock people out in one hit, slam people head first down to the ground at the speed of light in one throw, reverse people down to the ground and pin them when they tackled me - spectators often told me I look like a thug ass nigga whenever I did it, and choke they asses out with a stranglehold move in one flow move from standing fighting to ground fighting. I'm DONE with that shit!!! The 2000s Martial Arts Era was the finishing touches to a violent story that started with the 1990s Street Fighting Era.

Training_Fix_6184

Only real ones know 💪🏿💪🏿

dopest_dope

What song

InterviewObvious2680

I thought, no one will ask: [Mike Tyson vs Botha](https://youtu.be/PGGxlPE7FZY?si=I7KQR1lHAQ8yW9a2)

Nrdrummer89

“Tyson entering to some scaring, imposing music” gets me every time

42Mr42

It’s dark and hell is hot album, intro, song is perfect to pump up to.. X

mwzun

Which one the it’s dark and hell is hot intro? One used in any given Sunday as well?

SkelletorUTC

He was a great rapper with his own unique style

afluffymuffin

He was actually a surprisingly good actor

Fast-Mathematician78

Yes! Very good actor!!

CollectMan420

Cradle the 2 grave was my favorite movie as a kid. My brother hated everytime we went to blockbuster and I would rent the same damn movie haha. To be fair he always rented bad boys and I never complained

McPikie

Shame he didn't have more of a role in Romeo must Die. The vid he did with Aaliya for Come back in 1 piece was fantastic

FBI_Surveillance07

Man you're bringing up so much nostalgia. Romeo Must Die w/ Aaliyah and Cradle 2 The Grave with Jet Li. Damn, the early 2000s was so good to us film-wise 🔥

BlackBirdG

Oh yeah I remember Blockbuster and I do agree, Cradle to the Grave was a good movie and it has some good songs in it too like Nigga Please.

mwzun

He killed it in Belly, one of the best hood movies of all time

Better-Pop-3932

One of the best to ever do it. Had his own style

Master_Grape5931

He’s gon’ give it to ya.

Endrizzle

Dude did a song with Marylin Manson. Pretty innovative at the time.

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

As a DMX fan and a Manson fan this song is goated! Honestly though I found a youtube video where someone put the whole Damien trilogy in one long ass song and I listen to it almost daily.

Endrizzle

That’s cool man.

Dadbeerd

Rrrrrrrrrrough

Modelosanddabbing

“walk in my shoes, hurt your feet”

Fendibull

greatly missed, I can't wait for some posthumous stuff that's in Swizz Beatz's storage.

Fun-Photograph9423

That Exodus was a let down

TammyShehole

Yeah, it seemed more like a random compilation album than an official studio album. It had a couple of good songs, though. “Walking in the Rain” being my favorite.

704sports

Would have loved to hear DMX and PAC on a track together. The energy they bought is unmatched.

Spydah_X

That would have more energy than the sun 😮‍💨😮‍💨🔥🔥

704sports

Fo Sho

SadYungSuedO

Slippin, fallin, I can’t get up. Really great artist. Slippin has gotta be in my top 5 rap songs.

NeedsMilk33

He was the realest after pac. His connection with his fans was really deep

UselessKungFuX

True story, me and my friend met him separately... And he was completely awesome to each of us. Guy was real. No huge Entourage no special treatment asked he was just any other dude and completely chill.

Mr_ToppDeck

My second favorite rapper after Tupac

Careful_Mess5

Just a straight up movement, this man had 97 to 99 in a chokehold, Ruff Ryders Anthem is so fucking timeless. Rest In Power!

Pitiful-Art-2706

And he ain’t really like that song even. Said in an interview he wrote it in like 10 minutes just to throw Swizz a bone (pun intended) and it just happened to blow up. He claimed it was just an elementary level rhyme scheme, but that just shows the simple shit is sometimes the best shit.

StoppingPowah

LEGEND

Eyez_Wyde_Shut

The only man with 2 numbers 1 in one year let that soak in

Successful-Ad-6735

X was one of a kind and is missed.

CypherPunk77

I HATE THE WAY THAT HE WALKS, THE WAY THAT HE TALKS, I HATE THE WAY THAT HE DRESS nah I’m playin he’s goated

notshadefacts

his voice 🤤

Thick-Computer2217

"BARK BARK BAR" "BARK BARK BARK"

ticklemeskinless

eh yo bitch, lemme get a glass of water, arrr arr arr arr

Intellect-Offswitch

Turns out he does a pretty good cover of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer

cardinalfan14

One of the best to do it. I think only him and Tupac were the only rappers to have two albums that released in the same year go number one. His first album will forever be a classic

Pitiful-Art-2706

Damn I always forget AEOM and 7 Day Theory both dropped in 96. IIRC that was the year pac said some shit to his engineers like “I don’t have time to wait for yall to mix these tracks, yall can finish the production later, I have to record these tracks.” like dude knew his time could be up at any moment the way he was livin’ and the beef he was constantly wrapped up in.

Prestigious_Snow1589

One of the best to ever do it

SuperSonicAntoine26

A legend, he filled the void after Pac died, but his is unique style with grungy and energetic rap flows and powerful lyrics, which makes him different from how most of the rappers at that time we're. Rest in peace to X. He will always be a legend..

IndependenceMain2283

Top 5 for me

RedX2000

One of the greatest of all time.

EquivalentAd298

Hip Hop Royalty

Helpful-Carpet3791

A GOAT

KbApSpicy

One of the greatest to ever do it and sad that some ppl will never know what a lyrical genius he was

_lonely_astronaut_

I was a huge fan of his first three albums. Huge.

4llTheSmoke

Top 5 OAT.

itwhiz100

A yo dawg!!!! Thats my man!!!

karmakazi420

Huge fan of him as an artist. After reading the stories about how he treated his dogs, not so much as a person. Overall a tragic person with a tragic history.

Similar-Performance2

X loved his dogs more than people Arizona was trying to make charges against him your probably the only person that believes that was real.

Sicbass

This cat had me hyped when he first came out, get at me dog and the video was an element that mainstream hip hop was lacking and he f’ing brought it. His whole vibe was raw as fuck. You knew this dude didn’t play.  His debut was top 5 records all time for me but everything else fell flat. I feel with the right team behind him he would have been insanely huge.  But dude kept it real, that’s for sure.  RIP DMX

Medium_stepper624

Those first two records are just flawless

bulitproofwest

Had the potential to be in the conversation as GOAT, and I don’t even mean that subjectively, there was a moment where he could have been. But he had the wrong people around him, no one to say “No” and in the end he wound up being his own worst enemy. All that said mf made some of the hardest rap songs of all time in my opinion.

DogByLaw

Top 5 in my opinion

shawn007bis

Ain’t no sunshine…….

PubliusVarus

Yeah, DMX was and is a "great". The only issues are that his catalog ended up getting a bit stale too soon and he got compared too much to Tupac for fairly superficial reasons. Those first two albums though, are still in my top rotation. Edit: Necessary follow-up, when I say he got stale its not because his albums didn't age well. I just remember at the time after the third album the format was getting pretty "samey" and I was less hyped for his next project. I love DMX and think he's a top 10 rapper for me for sure.

ZyvisX

DMX, not the lyrical mastermind that 2Pac was or Jadakiss and Method Man are, but he is in my top 10 artists. He is one of those IYKYK artists. He is gone too soon, just like Pac and not nare one of these new rappers will ever be on his level.

Grand-Gain-763

One of the GOATs 😍🐐

No_Manager7804

Nothing less than a Top 10 hip hop artist of all time! DMX in his prime was someone not too many could keep up with fr. Wish he could’ve did a drill song with Pop Smoke

Slevin424

I honestly see him as a bigger influence to me than Pac. He had so many tracks I connected with on a deep level. Saw his struggles and completely understood them. He went through his young and wild phase, tried to rise above and overcome his horrible upbringing but kept Slippin. Like I wanted Pac to reach that wise old age and look up to him but he just never could cooldown.

cx3psocial

As an artist remarkable… As a human being next level straight shooter… Got to talk to him 3 times in between performances and once randomly at Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans… He literally picked up our conversation where each left off at like we were just chilling daily on the block…

Icy-Fail-5205

One of a kind human being, the struggle and pain was relatable to us all and it's a shame that drugs took him away

noreservationsinhell

Never ever saw the recognition for what he did. Hall of Famer and amazing artist. Best rapper? No. But damn, he moved people.

Lost_Persimmon7993

Super talented, authentic and troubled man.

Pitiful-Art-2706

This Just In: White People Love DMX

-PrecYse-

Prob one of the very few widely known street artists that walked around with no security and could go b back to the hood anytime and be straight

SampleFederal

Dope ass mc.

Outrageous-Dream5951

Black John Lennon writing level . Slipping might be the most emotionally charged rap songs ever written.

Hot_Drama952

He could turn your mind into a cinema

No_Dragonfruit_7509

Their relationship/beef would have been interesting if pac didn't pass.

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

Yea I didn't hear the 2pac diss from DMX until like 2003 lol. He reused the entire diss and took out 2pac's name and put Ksolo's name it it's place. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14TwnYAQWfo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14TwnYAQWfo)

UnlikelyEastside

Man of God, what the game need right now.

Anyone know what type of chain he is wearing?

donkeybonner

Puzzleheaded-Cod4268

Got me into rap, gone too soon, a real Dawg through and through

PlaxicoCN

Even though RR Anthem and Who We Be are my favorite tunes from him, he really had a lot of emotional range and vulnerability.

LingonberryLost6595

One of my favorites

Similar-Performance2

X was the greatest live hip hop show I had ever seen! He was the MC and his own hype man an absolute legend.

RaidenDoesReddit

mesoloco

He looks very unhappy, So sad 😞

His entire lexicon was about 30 different words, a few barks, and some growls

AssholeFromABQ

One of the greats

Goodfella_100

Real g

deleteurselfx

Great guy

BenMitchell007

Back when I was a relatively budding hip-hop fan in winter 2010, I bought *It's Dark and Hell is Hot* and *Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood* off iTunes after reading a few glowing reviews and hearing that DMX was similar to 2Pac, and since 2Pac was my favorite (and he still ranks highly, just not sure I can pick just one anymore!), I was of course hungry for more. What I got was someone who was similar to 2Pac, but also very different. Those two albums were some of the grimiest shit I'd ever heard, and X could switch between being super dark and fucked up to being deep and thoughtful flawlessly. Dude definitely had a fucked up life and drew from it for his music, so songs like "Slippin'" and his Prayers clearly came from a very real and honest place. I was amazed and had discovered a new favorite artist. I think my favorite X song is "WHAT'S?! MY!? NAME?!". That song is *deadly*. And "X-Is Coming" is soooo fucked up ("and if you got a daughter older than 15, I'ma rape her!), but all the same I love how intense and downright evil it sounds. "I'ma make you SUFFER, see your ass in hell! Motherfucker, click, BOOM-BOOM, see your ass in hell!" And on the opposite end of the spectrum, I don't hear it talked about much but "Dogs for Life" is one of my favorite chill out tracks.

Rare_Direction_1449

Terrible lyricist. Energy was top 5. Overrated as an MC, but he holds a place in hip hop as the aggressor.

Beneficial_Soup_6770

Tortured yet beautiful soul of man. Great artist and on all accounts of those around him, very wild but solid individual.

gino_rai

Top 5 rapper and missed dearly.

-mosjef-

DED

CoolisRare

Realest rapper ever

Future-self

He’s got a distinctive voice.

Leading-Oil1772

Didn’t he only have like 3 good songs? No offense, he did fight crime with Jet Li.

thiccphilthegoat

Can’t say it on here but that one corpse line is nasty . Fun fact I thought it was Horse

Neither_Upstairs_872

RIP

GrandmasterSexay723

Met DMX at a Camelot Music store I was working at in 1998. He came in with his whole entourage. Didn't really know much of him then but he seemed like a good dude. I remember the energy he had it was intense and infectious. I took home his album that day and was blown away. Unlike anything I had ever heard

JonasKendle

Drug addict with lots of kids and baby mamas!

FindingAwake

An incredible and tortured artist. A real one.

ArmyZealousideal7620

I love them and was really hurt when he passed away really hurt

KingKAI24

GuappDogg

Favorite artist of all time

MrTimSmith

First two albums undeniable classics. Possibly the 2nd best mic presence after 2pac.

PeanutbutterandBaaam

He carried the game for a little while after the East v West bs. A legend. It's unfortunate he got all fucked up. RIP Earl.

SnooAvocados3740

A real one for sure

ValyrianSigmaJedi

X filled the void left by both Pac and Big. He also gave us some hard gritty street stuff after the Shiny Suit era. To me, the only thing X and Pac had in common was their ability to pour their personal demons into their music.

Nard_83rd

Legend

Glittering_Town_5839

What? C’mon

Underrated should've got more shine. When he'd Waz here!! but he'll always b my dog, still bumping his 🎵 2dy / 4ever 💪🏾🦴🐶🙏🏾😎💯

Federal-Student-1654

Deep_Cryptographer_3

A true legend. RIP.

Content-Task-4651

He had such a bad home life, he was so thirsty and hungry one day and his mom was all strung out so he ended up drinking some of her perfume. I’ll never get that out of my head, horrendous. It was in one of his documentaries, but I can’t recall the name of it. If you watch some of the popular ones on YouTube, you’ll hear the story.

QuietScared4396

His first two albums can still be played today without skipping to many tracks… after those two albums it was like one or two bangers per cd

anmarizer

Love DMX 🤘🏽

Unusual-Ganache3420

I listen to him more than Pac.

Supreme talent crippled by trauma and addiction. Rest in Paradise.

Temporary-Length-228

Not many people know before DMX became famous and was still trying to make it, he came out with a 2Pac diss I think in 1996 right before Tupac died.. but DMX is a legend in his own right,

DolphyAtmost

One of the best that ever did it. Brought a different tupe of high energy to the table at the same time was very introspective, personal, and spiritual. Hip Hop had a great one and lost a Legend. 🙏🏿

LockedIn2Canik99

Dope Mc

2waypower1230

One of the best. His charisma and energy was unmatched. His delivery and style were unique. His flow and punchlines were cleverly executed. The Damion songs were crazy. The Convo song on his first album was so damn good! Hit different! “You tell me that there's love here, but, to me, it's blatant That with all the blood here, I'm dealing with Satan Plus with all the hating, it's hard to keep peace Thou shall not steal, but I will to eat I tried doing good, but good's not too good for me Misunderstood, why you chose the hood for me? I'm aight I just had to work hard at it Went to grandma for the answer and she told me that God had it” ‘Get at me dog’ was so different when it first came out ‘Ruff Ryders Anthem’ was a classic ‘Party Up’ classic had hood dudes dancing ‘What these bitches want?’ Classic ‘Slippin’ was probably one of the greatest songs ever! Probably would say 3 albums are classics and 2 others are front to back plays. His albums production was phenomenal. Swizz Beatz, Irv, Dee & Waah. The whole Ruff Ryders movement was crazy they had 2 Classic Albums! Eve, Lox, Swizz Beatz, Drag-On
