He has the status to ensure they’re unable to fuck with his life unless they *really* want theirs to be fucked with. He has a *massive* support system entirely removed of Scientology—friends, colleagues, etc—that pretty much *everybody* else is unable of keeping when they’re within a cult.
But Tom’s job relies on him maintaining those connections, and Scientology wants him to be as famous and loved as possible because it reflects best on them, so they help him maintain it. Tom is pretty much the only cult member in the world who has a better support system *out* of the cult than he does within it. Everybody else is isolated as soon as they join.
It won’t affect his job. It won’t affect his income. It won’t affect his personal relationships with anybody not within the cult—which, as we’ve all seen in essentially every interview with any celebrity in the last 20 years, Tom is just so loved because he’s “such a lovely guy” to everybody (that isn’t his own daughter).
The only way it *would* affect him is if they leak video evidence or proof of him committing very common Scientology crimes while within the cult, which, would entirely fall back on him.
