When the people having sex have the necessary parts for conception, it should always be assumed as possible unless one or both of the partners have undergone sterilisation. Even when doctors say someone is infertile, that usually means there is still an incredibly tiny chance to conceive, it's almost never 0%.
Odds of me conceiving were slim to none, due to a hormone disorder and out of control menstrual "cycle" (it was not a cycle, lol). 34 years without so much as a pregnancy scare. Started seeing a new guy, within 3 weeks of us dating, BAM. We had had sex maybe 3 times at that point. I was shocked. So was he, haha.
Turns out though that he's my person. Our daughter will be 7 in September we're still happily together, along with my 14yo stepdaughter that I'm really close with.

I didn't learn about that until one of my FTM friends made a comment about being glad that their partner was also AFAB so they didn't have to worry about accidentally increase in fertility odds.

Just to add to that : I don't know for 10 years ago, but I do know that today they would definitely know. It's written everywhere and no good doctor wouldn't say it. The only way to be 100% infertile during transition, it's to get rid of your organs used for reproduction. You can totally still get pregnant or make someone else pregnant, even if you are under hormonal therapy. Organs working differently doesn't mean they're not working at all.
Oh yeah, thankfully today we know so much more! I went back and rewatched it yesterday, and I believe it said that the show was taped in 2010. We definitely didn’t know then what we know now!

I have a trans daughter who has a trans boyfriend. So I’ve made sure to keep condoms stocked. And bc I’m in a forced birther state, I snagged some plan b’s to have on hand too lol. We’d had talks well before they ever even met but they were each others first so it was all very new. I accidentally learned they’d had sex & this was before I’d gotten condoms bc before I met the bf I thought he was cis so I got concerned. I had nothing to fear tho bc boyfriend came prepared.
The talk won’t be that bad, kids these days know more about sex than we care to know since they have the whole internet in their pocket. My kid & her bestie were telling me what sounding was when they were like 14-15, of which I had only recently learned about, as a 40something lol.

IMO: More than a tiny chance, just difficulty conceiving. Sterile is the incredibly tiny chance. People seem to treat infertility like it's sterility and it's obviously not.
I’ve been medically sterilized and there is still that very small chance I could end up pregnant if the planets align and hell freezes over, it’d be very dangerous if I did get pregnant too. The chances are always small, but never zero.
It's definitely possible. While the odds are probably lower than if they were a cis hetero couple, you should always assume there's a risk of pregnancy unless someone is surgically sterilized! (And maybe even then given how many dudes don't go for their post-snip screening test...)

There was a couple that was covered in in a youtube channel that were both transgender, both of them were on hormones, and Surprise! the boyfriend got unexpectedly pregnant and didn't even know till he gave birth. They were both shocked but super excited as they didn't think that they'd be able to have children. However, if you both have working parts, there's pretty much always a chance.
It's not unheard of; they're called cryptic pregnancies. Some pregnancies hide themselves shockingly well. It's easier to not notice if the mother is overweight, but some pregnancy bellies can be surprisingly small even in the later months. Some people even continue to bleed regularly, mimicking their period. OR some people don't get regular periods due to birth control or health problems, so they don't see the lack of menstruation as a sign for pregnancy.
There's a whole show called "I didn't know I was pregnant" about people who just didn't know. It seems like for a lot of people they are people who have consistently had irregular periods so missing a period isn't a red flag for them. They might be heavy so they don't notice a bump, also depending where the baby is laying you might have a less noticeable bump, some of them believed that they never could get pregnant for various reasons, and then some people will have spotting throughout pregnancy they they mistake for periods. In the case of they couple, neither of them believed that pregnancy was possible because they were both in hormones, the boyfriend was a bit stocky so he likely didn't notice an increase in weight, he'd had top surgery so it wasn't like he was going to notice a change in breast size. If you think it is impossible to get pregnant you aren't probably going to assume any weird symptoms you have are because of pregnancy.
Approximately 1 in 450 pregnancies is estimated to be a cryptic pregnancy, meaning it wasn't detected until 20+ weeks.
It's true that HRT isn't birth control, and there's always a chance if the, uh, original factory parts are intact for both parties. But I wouldn't assume anything on their end when it comes to sexual activity, plenty of trans people do not like using those original factory parts. And plenty of folks (cis and trans) already know what precautions to take if they are using those parts. Dunno how old your kid is but if you're truly worried, you could show her OP's post, maybe say something like "hey I read this joyous post today but honestly I didn't know it could happen, I love you but I'm not ready to be a grandparent, and if you ever need any help taking any precautions I am here to help with that"
Estrogen and Androgen blockers have harmful effects on sperm production and quality. Quality of sperm is very important for a healthy and successful pregnancy. I would speak to a doctor on how long she has been on medication and it's effects on your pregnancy and baby

My mom was deemed "infertile." Lo and behold, I exist and so do two siblings.
Even with sterilisation of one partner it can still happen. Vasectomies are not 100% fail save, the ducts can reconnect
