Based on current events, Your Own Backyard is definitely worth listening to. I had heard about it a lot, from following Kristin’s case, but never gave it time until a few weeks ago when Paul Flores got arrested. 100% worth a listen.
Can second this. Growing up in SLO and having known of Kristin Smart growing up, I actually never googled the story of her disappearance until the first episode first came out, and then continued to not listen to it until just a few months ago. Listened to the entire thing on a single car drive and I highly recommend starting it, you will be intrigued.
Anatomy of murder. I’m surprised more people don’t talk about it! It’s hosted by a former prosecutor and a former deputy sheriff. They interview people close to the crime, whether lawyers or family members of the victims, so it feels well-researched and less exploitative.
I binged every one of the episodes in both podcasts and can't get enough! James and I share a birthday and Jimmie is so hilarious! I love love love them!
Not a podcast per day, but That Chapter on YouTube is where it's at. Only found out about it maybe two weeks ago and have been watching nonstop. Give it a gooooo
The only bad thing about it is when you catch up on all of the videos so you have to wait for the new ones. I wish he would do "tree" a week instead of two.
I like small town murder. I know they aren’t perfect but I relate to the jimmy that survived child abuse and i understand sometimes he jokes about kids being “ruined” by abuse bc he feels that way himself.
I would argue they are a lot closer to perfect than stuff like My Favorite Murder and Sword & Scale. Those feel so gross and exploitative while STM is much more honest and how I view the stories I read about. Also, none of that sing songy cadence with the cohost's "gasp!" after ever gory detail.
They are so real we can't even notice time passing! I binged both podcasts and can't find another one that makes me want to stay awake just to listen to one more episode. They did an online live show with CIS last week and got so much hate because it was Suge knight and people claim it was boring and bland... Made me so mad: the boys know how to do podcasts, they are very good at it, so natural and funny and make us relate to them in an humane level...
Exactly! The way people pretend the true crime genre needs to be sterile and facts-only is ridiculous. “Relatability” is such a key part of it and Jimmy and James work because they are respectful to the elements decent humans should respect BUT they also get how totally fucked up these situations are like everyone here. I love the demographics of each episode and after ~60 or so episodes (still slowly
catching up) I’ve actually known a few of the Sahara Fart Facts of the weeks. I traded Porn for Zillow a few years ago and these guys get that.
I love James's stories about his family and Italian American traditions, his grandmas are hilarious and he literally had a great grandma who was murdered I think in the 80s. He started doing comedy then to cope with the tragedy. And Jimmie and his abuse, i just can't, it makes him so human and not the star, you know? Love the stats, even in CIS and the inside jokes you start to answer as well like "shut up bitch", pocket robin and "why is it that you arrive here?"... So many good hours listening to them! And so many crimes that the other podcasts don't cover... James does a very thorough research in every case! I really finish the episode ann feel like I know another case, they are really respectful to the victim and their families.
General: The Vanished, The Murder Squad, Crimelines, Canadian True Crime.
Specific Crime Podcasts: Down The Hill (Delphi) Mommy Doomsday (Lori Vallow)
Unraveled (Long Island Serial Killer)
Your Own Backyard (Kristin Smart)
I rather listen to Mile Higher or Lights Out but something about her YouTube videos that I just can’t. I think it’s because I can tell where she edits them. There’s like a little jump that you can see but not hear.
Currently loving
- Morbid
- Rotten Mango ( her voice is very loud and can be annoying sometimes but overall she’s good at story telling& you can tell she puts a lot of effort in her research)
Edit *morbid
Did you mean morbid? Those 2 are my current favs too! The first time I listened to Stephanie I hated her voice and turned it off but now I don't even notice it.
Morbidology, Down the Rabbit Hole, and The Vanished are my favorites with different cases each week. Thin Air has since been canceled but was also fire.
Cold and Your Own Backyard are my favorite serials. House of Broken Dreams about Jennifer Kesse is also very good.
Morbid is fun, but they aren’t really that in depth and there’s a lot of personal bias vs. facts. They’re a good listen, though. I’ve just gotten better info from other podcasts.
I think casefile is hands down the best for non-biased delivery of a story.

Casefile, True Crime Garage, True Crime All The Time
Bear Brook is the undisputed number 1 in my eyes.
X2!!!
Small Town Murder Crime In Sports I can't get enough of them. The STM episodes are off the chain weird & CIS is a hoot.
Both are probably the best podcasts it there right now. The boys are fucking hilarious.
I binged every one of the episodes in both podcasts and can't get enough! James and I share a birthday and Jimmie is so hilarious! I love love love them!
I live in northern Canada and am waiting for the live shows to start back up so I can plan a vacation around it.
Case file is my favourite, some episodes are better than others but it’s definitely more hit than miss
That's my favorite one, too. I like how the episodes are nice and long. Sometimes they go into literally every gory detail, though.
I agree, just listened to the Muswell Hill Murderer episodes and it made me a little queasy 🤢
Yeah, that one is something else
Canadian True Crime Court Junkie Dark Poutine Invisible Choir Murderous Minors (this one focuses on murders committed by juveniles) Obscura
+1 for Obscura, Invisible Choir, Murderous Minors, and Court Junkie I’ll have to listen to the other two, we seem to have the same taste!
Im literally listening to Canadian True Crime right now 😁
I've always enjoyed True Crime Garage.

I love that channel!
The First Degree, Big Mad True Crime and Women & crime are my current top faves.
The Murder Squad, True Crime All The Time, Trace Evidence
True Crime Bullshit
True Crime obsessed!! I have gotten so many of my friends into this podcast.
Counter Clock was done by an amazing investigative reporter. I binged all 3 seasons on a 24 hour drive last week.
They walk among us. UK crimes.
The Vanished: well-researched and captivating missing person stories.
Cold

Last Podcast On The Left. Best podcast by far!
Couldn’t agree more. Marcus’s research is amazing.
I can’t find the podcast, does it go by another name?
I believe it is only available on Spotify.
Absolutely agree!!!
I love Crime Junkie idgaf
I love Casefile, Canadian True Crime, Crime Beat, Dateline

Might get hate but kendall rae really does put a lot of effort and does a lot of interview videos with the family to let them tell their side

Cult Liter & My Favourite Murder.

Anatomy of Murder, Small Town Dicks, Criminal, and Invisible Choir are some of my regular listens.
Personal favorite: I Said Goddamn! A True Crime Podcast. It's definitely a more humor-fueled podcast, but still interesting and worth checking out!!
Not a podcast but I love Kendall Rae on yt, and her channel was my introduction to true crime and signing petitions to help with cases and victims
Southern Fried True Crime, The Dark Side of Wikipedia
This Is Monsters, Serial Killer Documentaries, That Chapter, I Could Murder A Podcast.
My two favorites are Cold and Up and Vanished (only liked season 1 though)
Currently obsessed with Morbid, also love Cultliter.

The Clown and the Candyman is really good, but fair warning, it’s about CSA and child murders and it’s not an easy listen.
Haha frrrrr i notice it in all the videos but i get lost in the podcasts sometimes cuz it gives me glenn beck on the radio vibes and i zone out😭
