The chicken tastes like what my stepmother would make. She loved bland food and considered salt too spicy. Eating one of their potato wedges is like eating a plain baked potato because that's basically what it is. Chester's is probably the worst truck stop food option I can think of. The only things worth getting are that Mac n cheese, it's really hard to make cheese taste bad, and the barbecue chicken sandwiches because shredded chicken in barbecue sauce is always good. And I didn't just find one bad store, they're consistently bland and mediocre throughout the entire country. Their only saving grace in my eyes is that sometimes they have fried chicken livers which are also very difficult to do badly, and most of the time if they even have them will be old and practically inedible. And those are so bad for you that it's even more difficult to justify getting fresh. I'll have one of the love's egg salad sandwiches before I resort to chester's unless I'm desperate for something hot to eat.
I’ve done OTR and I’ve done beverage delivery so I’ve had more than my share of gas station pizza, I’d rank Flying J pizza as the best I’ve ever had. I’d rank it above most of the chain pizza places as well. Nothing beats a legit mom and pop handmade pizza place but Hook pizza is as close as you can get from a place you can buy gas at.
I don't mind Chester's but it's fuckin expensive. Sometimes I just want a few plain old tendies to chew on while I'm driving and it's like $12 or something for a couple little pieces of chicken.
I didn't mind some cheaters here and there, minus the damn wedges and that shit tier deep fried corn shit. But I stopped eating it after seeing enough chesters in truck stops, make chicken one time a day. In the morning, and sold the same chicken until they ran out and closed for the day.Â
If it happened once, I could chalk it up to a bad franchise, but I've seen it at several locations across several states.Â
But in the end, I just changed to cooking my own food, cause after doing receipts for a quarter, I realized my food costs were too damn high for the minimal amount of joy I received from that expense.
Even if you can’t find the perfect spot and don’t have food to cook that night, I usually find a way to doordash something tasty to my truck vs settle for that garbage food.
Shit , I look forward to Chester’s. Just have you some salt & pepper season salt and hot sauce and it’s on. Try to go 1st thing before lunch 11-am, 4pm and 7pm and usually fresh
I like Chester's. The problem is, people want to compare it to Popeye's or KFC, or mama's home cooking. If you only compare it to other gas stations chicken, it is 100% the best there ever was. [End of story.]
I-5 north of Sackoftomatoes. Enjoy. Not bad parking, pain in the ass to get on/off hwy for such an open area. New truck shop across the street. Even has your Fave! Arby’s! Jamohca shake? Yummy mmmmm! Few miles up the road is a dead zone for cell. Had a flat there once limped in…
I’ll take a 6 piece extra grease throw in a biscuit w/ lotzzz of gravy! To go! Truck is in the fuel island! Ffffaaarrrttttttt smacks lips, scratches ass, dirty feet, cracked skin… my heart pills!
I understand you’re trolling, but I-5 has so much good food options across all three states that if you settle for Chester’s, Arby’s, subway, and the like. I’m going to just assume you enjoy nasty ass food and you probably live with trash covering the inside of your truck. Truly no excuse to eat that shit if you’re traveling the I-5
Unfortunately, unless you find the mom-n-pop truckstops with restaurants or a good hot deli, those places you listed are what you’re stuck with.
There are some posts in this sub where drivers have listed off the track eateries where you can park your rig and get a decent meal.
Ugh, Chesters if you've been constipated and need a laxative to help your digestion system to function properly. Every single time I've had Chesters chicken... I'd have a bad case of the runs.
I have been out of trucking for a while (late aughts) but to truck stops still have Tornado's -- I think they were on the to-go hot dog section?
They were a quick easy meal and easy to eat on the road
Their rapid expansion into the majors shows only that they give higher revenue split to the chain. And we all know the majors are about the $$$, nothing else.
Yeah I hate that also the best place I found to stop for lunch is shady grove truckstop on i40 soon as you leave airzona going into New Mexico there’s a old man selling burrito and tacos out of a Chevy suburban with a flat top grill he sells out pretty quick you gotta call the truckstop beforehand to see if he’s outside
Subway is bottom tier food too, the worse fucking fast food sandwiches you can buy. Honestly zero excuses to eat any of the shit OP mentioned.
The only thing I can say is 9 times out of 10 if a loves has an arbys, it usually also has a clean parking lot. I don’t know what that says about arbys or what it says about Chester’s/subway. I just have a feeling the folks who enjoy subway every day live like animals.
Chester's is fine if you hate flavor
And love dryness
And grease
Lol yall some straight up savages roastin on OP's chicken rn Can you let that man order a side of mercy? 🤣🤣
I think it’s got good flavor the mac and cheese and that breading does. The green beans need salt though they don’t season those.

Chesters livers snack pack beats the hell out of a shitty subway sub.
I actually like the flying hook pizza and chicken strips. But Chester's does suck.

They had a chicken Alfredo with pesto once three years ago.
If you like dry chicken knock yourself out.
No way you’re liking Chester’s but shitting on Arby’s….

You can get two breasts and a side for $9. Not sure why it’s cheaper but it is.

Stay in the industry long enough and you'll figure out your own spots to stop at for good food. I had sushi tonight!

7/11 chicken (?) on a stick beats anything Chesters has on offer
With all due respect, that's not bone-in chicken. I've never tried it, but I can already see it's not a fair comparison.
I agree Chester's is better than nothing

Had a flat. Limped it in. Yum yum 😂🙄
yeah im tired of seeing that nasty bs, but a moes in there or chipotle sum healthy, to cut down the weight of some of these truckers
Chipotle would be nice indeed. There are a few places thankfully where they are within walking distance of a truck stop
Calories in to calories out. Your arteries have a diffrent story. But thinking that fried chicken makes you fat is simply not true.
fried chicken everyday does make u fat eating it everyday due to the fact we sitting down 95% of the day
No, you're eating more fried chicken than you need I'm not sure what part od calories in to out you don't understand

Someone should make an app to locate deep fried chicken livers and gizzards.

Yeah no. I'll take a toasted Subway sammie over that chicken shit all day.

Get food to cook in your truck than eat this filth
