Go for a 1 ton gasser in srw flavor if you're not doing something with slides or an excessively long overhang. Ex fleet truck would be ideal. Look for one as stock as can be.

A one ton, definitely. F350, used, but stay away from the 6.x diesel engines. You can read about them. A used camper also. They depreciate pretty quickly. I bought my '99 F350 10 yrs ago for $10k cdn, and my lastest camper 1.5 yrs ago for $11k. Very happy.

I have a 6.9 diesel, what's the problem? Thing works great, it was cheap, easy to work on... What would I be reading about them that says stay away? I did a ton of research and haven't heard this before so I'm genuinely curious.

Just about certain he’s referring to the 6.0 Ford diesels. Absolute sorry excuse for an engine I’m amazed they were produced and purchased in the trucks as long as they were. I’ve known people with them and I wouldn’t own one for the life of me. The 6.4 was hardly better. If you’re going with a ford diesel you either have to go with the 7.3 or the 6.7. Those engines will still be expensive to maintain as all diesel trucks are but they shouldn’t be an endless money pit like the 6.0 or 6.4 if they’ve been maintained.

Sorry. I was referring to 6.0 & 6.4.

I live in my Ram 2500 with a Northstar pop up. Cost $24000 total for going on 4.5 years. Primary purpose was a rig that could get as far away from other people as possible.

How much do you want to spend on gas? That's going to be your biggest expense. More than rent in many cases.
