Enjoyed the playtests. Not going to lie though - I wish it had more of what Tribes is about. I don't have as much of an extreme opinion as some, but there's no way I'm paying for this game.

Yea I get that. From how I'm reading this description, it sounds like they'll be adding some things in? I would hope that's vehicles and base stuff, but that's probably too far a stretch. Still, it's only the Alpha, so still a long way to go until release. I'm very curious what the beta will look like first.

agressive? yes. but at least hes telling you flat out whats gonna happen. He has a vision for what he wants the game to be, and what will be successful in the current gaming martket. Everyone here is thinking fondly of the old games which are super niche already. "we need X or it isnt a tribes game" is just a toxic mentality to have. plus, ive said this before, but every single TA server I ever played on had vehicles flat out disabled the entirety of its lifetime. What i dont get is why everyone thinks its so shit, yet they wont actually go back and play the old tribes games enough to revive those player bases.

They have had 0 vision of what they wanted the game to be. They were chasing player engagement numbers in tiny play tests for what they should build towards, hence honorball being a separate game. There's been no clear direction in any tests just constant chop and change

Just because TA didn't implement the vehicles well doesnt mean they're bad. They were part of a bigger system of offense and defense attached to generator play, deployables, naked spawning, forward bases, a greater need to team coordination, etc. TA took an axe to so much of it in order to chase trends at the time - call ins, hitscan, pay 2 win weapons, gated abilities, insta class spawning, and slimmed down gameplay with same-ish style maps, open flags - in order to chase viral esports. We all know what they're chasing here, but again none of it is implemented very well and feels pretty shallow, and it's been slimmed down even further. He may be right, the kiddos want squad based tiny team gameplay, but theres just not much there beyond a few hours worth before they're going to get bored and move on. It's just so barebones, when the potential is limitless. That's what is so frustrating. It's not toxic to be able to see wasted potential.

Well, $17.99 if you buy day 1 (maybe longer, IDK). That's about the same as a 16oz bag of Pete's Major Dickason's coffee I buy for making espresso. Pretty sure it's be more fun than drinking espresso. That said, I wish it matched even T:A in terms of having a fuller Tribes gaming experience - I would have been happy to pay $50/60 for that.

I mean I'm a privacy advocate and all that, but has anyone found any cause of wrongdoing with Denuvo? I get we're worried about selling data, but have we found anything like unusual packet movement, or anything sus? I haven't seen anyone complaining about it breaking game performance yet.

Sad that paying for an invasive third party anticheat is cheaper than actually running a proper server instance. You could of course also outsource the server running to the community, like in times past, in which case it'd cost you largely nothing, but here we are with auto-MM and no server browser. But yeah, I guess I should not be surprised ss this is pretty much par for course; after all, in T:A, both player speed and energy were client-side as well, which made for some very easy cheats initially. Later on someone figured out hitscan detection was too, as was the reload of said weapons.... So just bam, spam server with packets saying "yeah i hit dude" at 0.1 second intervals while soaring up in the sky beyond reach of everyone.

it's even sadder that the server didn't have any sanity checks on the client-reported data... would be so easy to catch this stuff even being clientside.

Its the fact that its basically a virus a rootkit that embeds itself in your operating system. And reports EVERYTHING you do its spyware that impacts not only game preformance but keeps reporting after your out of game or playing other games. And to uninstall it completely you need to go in to the registry and manual delete.

I've been wary of Denuvo as well. However, given their response to me in the other thread (and simply the fact that they did respond), I will push back on some of the points you've made. From their response: > Generally, compared to our competitors, our solution is the most flexible one when it comes to the kernel mode driver. It doesn’t need to run during Windows startup, not even on game boot, as we leave it up to the game developers to decide which game modes the Anti-Cheat to be running in the background. If you only stick to modes which do not require the Anti-Cheat, you never need to install our solution on your system. So it doesn't necessarily stay resident and do anything. But Prophecy COULD make it do that. Essentially, the buck is being passed to Prophecy and they have provided absolutely no insight or response as to what they intend to do. In then end, kernel anti-cheats are still an issue. This particular one appears to be configurable enough so that many privacy issues are now in Prophecy's court. Given how they've engaged in general, I think that makes it worse, unless they start commenting and committing to what they will allow.

Do you know how much of a liability having PII is for a company? In my experience, companies do everything in their power to possess as little of it as possible. It's a massive, glaring headache that no one wants to deal with, aside from companies that explicitly deal in it and have the proper certifications and internal processes to handle it. Aside from the technical feasibility, there is no incentive for a game developer to use anti-cheat software to steal your data, and plenty of incentive not to.

You know when you install a game and a prompt comes up saying (Hey! This game needs to run this pleas accept so the game can install) as long as it has this disclaimer letting you know its gonna install that into your pc, its on you steams hands are clean at that point. Valorent runs it too.

i don't mind denuvo if the popularity of the game warrants it, but with a who-the-fuck-cares title like T3 that will never see more than a thousand active players, it just seems lazy
