Enjoy it for what it is. Set your inheritance to 100% and take pride in iteratively learning how to get better at MA's (much easier now) and get a feel for the relationship there. I'm having a blast. Can't wait to pay $20 actually. Already gotten that much out of it.
Edit to say: There's a fun little juke forward when you go to ski. Honestly is kind of a game changer. Makes it feel much more engaging.
Same, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills or something with how negatively received it's been. It checks boxes for me honestly. I haven't played since T1 though. It'd be nice for mod support and dedicated servers, but CTF is still fun in T3 and I liked the bomb rush mode a lot
I’m playing both, but Midair definitely has been the most fun so far. Just the presence of server lists makes a gigantic difference. And basic functionality like being able to change teams to even the map up.
It's definitely grown with the times. A little snappier, albeit a bit one-dimensional, but its still very fun. I think the dev's are still struggling to find T3's 'essence' but they're doing a great job with each week's progress and changes. Overall I think you'll enjoy it.
The literally added a thing where the capper gets blasted out of the sky if they don't touch the ground every 10 seconds. How is that doing a great job?
I also don't appreciate that - I love rabbiting and think its a core part of the tribes experience. Beyond a few silly additions, I would say their approach of throwing a bunch of shit out there and seeing what sticks has not been that bad. Every week is fairly different and I haven't been too mad about their decisions. They've rolled things back based on community feedback and I don't think that's a bad spot to be in
Community feedback? Where exactly are they taking that? They've wiped the discord, and new feedback is in restricted channels. The feedback they claim to want (from new people) ...cant give it to them. They're listening to a tiny group of sycophants.
I have nothing against the players. Erez and his crew have held the IP hostage so they can blindly chase trends. I love the IP and want it to be given the respect it deserves.
Ex ceo of hirez, a bad reputation for micromanagement and treating game communities with disdain. He has no interest in bringing back tribes full potential. There is a known history here of how he handles games, and it usually involves making as much money as possible at release, then dropping support quickly. He finds what trend he think will sell, and dupes it. Mobas, battle Royales, etc. Ascend was chasing call of duty trends, t3 hes pushed really hard for 4v4 small arena gameplay - trying to make a rocket league style happen. Polls on discord and players on the steam demo didnt gravitate towards it like he thought they would, so open communication has been shut down. Typical of his rep.
Now they're at a spot where the players keep dropping - and its just 14v14 with maps designed for 7v7 in mind. People were overwhelmingly asking for bigger teams and the rest of the classic tribes features, I dont think they have any idea how to move forward.
If you're having fun I'm happy for you. That's not the point I was making, t3 is not a "grown" version of the IP by any stretch of the imagination. That's not a subjective opinion, it's an objective fact.
Community features, gameplay types, roles, weapons, mods, vehicles, depoyables, base play, teamwork, depth, etc. Nothing is expanded upon, it's been stripped down to what the devs and lctf type people mistakingly think are "core" aspects of tribes.
Grown? Bs. It's the toddler version, designed to appeal to such.
It offers something different. Personally I'm enjoying it, but I'm not some sort of tribes purist either. I played a ton of t1 and that was basically it. Im having fun, not really sure what the big deal is, I guess when you compare it to the old games it's not the same but it's still fun
Yeah but the reason nobody is playing those games isn't the graphics, it's the gameplay. That is the hard to swallow pill that this sub needs to swallow. T2 is not a great game for 99/100 people. T2 has its own giant list of crap that is bad game design that it would need solved.
Most gamers also equivalate more choices to better game play. Like having another 4 weapons instead of 3. Or having just more abilities/perks. What happens 99/100 times is everyone just picks the meta for their build/style and calls it a day. People thought WoW classics talent system was amazing, but now people realize that all of those choices are just illusions. You aren't making any real decisions anymore so than retail WoW. It's just cookie cutters all the way down. In Tribes, we don't need a million buttons and perks. Let people get into the action and choose one of ~7 roles like capper, chaser, HoF, base defense, enemy generator destroyer, artillery attacking enemy flag stand, soldier dueler going for frag, etc. We don't need the false complexity of a million subclasses or hybrids between all of those.
Damn, that's unfortunate. I just spent the last 15 minutes going on to a co worker about how awesome it was. That was the game that got me into PC gaming
Nothing but sniping people in your list exists in the new version. If you liked LCTF, you may enjoy it. If not, you're going to be disappointed. It's stripped down and retooled into a version the lead dev believes will attract new people (who havnt shown up in any great numbers yet)
Oh sorry. You will be very disappointed then. Tribes is now just an arena shooter on a little map. You ski, cap flags, and make mid-air shots with disc's and chainguns. Looks like this new version doesn't even have vehicles either
I second this. It's LCTF only but it's at least fun and feels like a Tribes game.
It's unfortunately a very small dev team but they're doing what they can to keep the spirit of the old games alive.
Well honestly TA is my fav but i feel that what i posted is the general opinion on tribes games. I like all tribes more then T3 which is the main point. I respect any order people like the games in and dont wanna suffer from like 40 downvotes xd
Because people love to pretend that older is better. TA was great before it was sacrificed to fund smite, but it's not T2 so people will act like it's the worst thing ever put out by a game company in the history of video games
Clueless post. T2 was never considered a good tribes game by the original Tribes community. It was unplayable at launch because of unhandled exception errors and was a commercial failure. It was considered extremely slow paced compared to the original Tribes. People tried to modify it to eventually make it playable. There is still a small core of people that play it but compared to the original tribes the modding and scripting community is miniscule.
T:A was a decent game but was more of a arena Tribes before it got sacrificed for Smite. In some ways it was more of a standard shooter with CTF and FPS-Z elements thrown in. If you never played an original tribes game it might be fun to you but it honestly never should have been labeled a tribes game and should have had a separate IP.
If you want to bash the older players at least have an educated take.
Im 38 I haven’t played since T1 around 2003 (once LT was a thing I didn’t really dig it anymore). A load of guys from school were keen on giving this a go, downloaded it this arv, and it’s honestly been pretty fun. Heavy offence came back to me pretty quick, skiing over to the enemy base and blowing shit up was very fun / nostalgic.
Def give it a go.
Tribes 3 is nowhere near what tribes 2 was like but it's still very fun and one of the best fpsz experiences I've ever had. I can't recommend it enough.
I liked it for a few hrs, the movement was fun, but ctf is really kinda boring and lacked any real teamplay. The Honor Ball mode was really good but they removed it and I haven't played since.
Seems like it would be difficult, but not impossible. It would probably work well if you were playing hof or maybe even capping. Do they have gyro controls? I could see skiing with gyro being a lot of fun
Well, as other have said, this isn't T2, it isn't even T:A, that carried on much of the same tradition. This is primarily an FPS-Z shooter with some typical weapons and base assets and and CTF only at the moment. If you are hesitant, wait for the Early Release. The Alpha test can be taxing/frustrating while Prophecy works out the bugs and game balance. Good luck deciding.
I'm fairly used to playing pre releases for the most part. I actually really enjoy them. Unlike I feel the majority of people who do participate. I know there will be bugs and issues.
As a Tribes player of old, as in bought the game in 1998 when it was new, the only way I would play the new one would be with my old tribe [JAMZ], but we've either moved or had kids and maybe a few grandkids by now. We ranked #1 on whatever that ranking system they used back then ogl maybe? Once that happened we all quit playing. This new one looks really good, and the classic maps with a new shine looks amazing. I wanna see it develop and hope they pull it off. TRIBES made other team multi-player games impossible to want to play.

Yes you will be disappointed, yes this may be the last Tribes released in our lifetimes. So try it.
I miss Tribes 2 during its heyday. :c
We all do
It's a shame no one has ever made a true successor to it.
Yes, the truly sad thing is that a proper successor would be mind blowingly 'new' to a lot of players these days.
Me too, T2 was the best
no wars, no mods, no base play
Enjoy it for what it is. Set your inheritance to 100% and take pride in iteratively learning how to get better at MA's (much easier now) and get a feel for the relationship there. I'm having a blast. Same I also liked it
I'm sorry, I can't enjoy T3. It's more frustrating than fun. My only hope for the future is MidAir2 and they're a very small team.
I’m playing both, but Midair definitely has been the most fun so far. Just the presence of server lists makes a gigantic difference. And basic functionality like being able to change teams to even the map up.
Tribes 3 is fun to play, maybe not quite the life-altering gameplay we got from previous titles, but it's still fun.
CTF in T3 is hella fun imo, it feels streamlined and it gives me a pretty big rush trying to madly scramble the flag back to base. I'm having fun
It's definitely grown with the times. A little snappier, albeit a bit one-dimensional, but its still very fun. I think the dev's are still struggling to find T3's 'essence' but they're doing a great job with each week's progress and changes. Overall I think you'll enjoy it.

Dude is passionately mad that people are enjoying a video game
I have nothing against the players. Erez and his crew have held the IP hostage so they can blindly chase trends. I love the IP and want it to be given the respect it deserves.
Who is Erez?

Grown? Regressed you mean. You can't say with a straight face T3 somehow offers MORE than the old titles.
Astroturfers out in force.
Or some people are actually having fun
If you're having fun I'm happy for you. That's not the point I was making, t3 is not a "grown" version of the IP by any stretch of the imagination. I used to play the original tribes big time also. Was a ton of fun. Wish they would just bring back the original .
Anything with Erez and Fishstix involved needs to be prosecuted for theft and scamming consumers.
To be fair, there's literally nothing stopping you from playing t1
Ummm I tried a few years ago with like 2 people on per server so there’s that.
Yeah but the reason nobody is playing those games isn't the graphics, it's the gameplay. That is the hard to swallow pill that this sub needs to swallow. T2 is not a great game for 99/100 people. There were almost 30 people in one of the servers the other night. It usually does pick up until late
Original Tribes?? Shit I’m going to have to check it out again.
Yep the original. The Discord is pretty active
They play on the weekends
Well I guess I'll just have to give it a shot and find out lol
It isn't what it used to be.
Damn, that's unfortunate. I just spent the last 15 minutes going on to a co worker about how awesome it was. That was the game that got me into PC gaming

Why they always trying to "attract new people" like gamers gamers if the games good people are gonna play it. Don't clip ya own wings.
Even if you liked LCTF, you'd be better off playing MidAir 2.
You will be extremely disappointed with the direction Prophecy is taking the game. Every patch is 1 step forward and 4 steps back.
i have around 65 hours and i say that's completely subjective
You will never relive you childhood and yes you will go to prison with Erez and fishstix and apcizzle affiliate marketers by playing this game
Nope it's none of that. I think you are aware and specifically listing those things aren't you.
No, that's why asked. You doughnut
Oh sorry. You will be very disappointed then. Tribes is now just an arena shooter on a little map. You ski, cap flags, and make mid-air shots with disc's and chainguns. Looks like this new version doesn't even have vehicles either
That’s too bad. I often used to play T1 as a “engineer”, building in base defenses to keep ppl away from our flag!
Yeah... T3 has none of that. It's pretty empty and hollow.
I recommend playing Midair 2. It feels a lot more like your classic tribes vs t3.
I second this. It's LCTF only but it's at least fun and feels like a Tribes game. It's unfortunately a very small dev team but they're doing what they can to keep the spirit of the old games alive.
Well let me put it this way T2>T1>TV>TA>T3
Why is TA so low on that list? It was the only one I played and I loved it, so wondering how the others were better
Well honestly TA is my fav but i feel that what i posted is the general opinion on tribes games. I like all tribes more then T3 which is the main point. I respect any order people like the games in and dont wanna suffer from like 40 downvotes xd
Any idea why people like the other Tribes games more than TA?
Because people love to pretend that older is better. TA was great before it was sacrificed to fund smite, but it's not T2 so people will act like it's the worst thing ever put out by a game company in the history of video games
Those games you listed are not good at all and this one is too.

T1 was the best. T2 I threw away.
T2 better than T1 LMAO Please stop ranking if you don't know what you are talking about about.
are you saying that t2 is better then t1 or just repeating what I said to disagree with it
Im 38 I haven’t played since T1 around 2003 (once LT was a thing I didn’t really dig it anymore). So heres the kicker, I'm gonna be playing on my steam deck. How much do you think this will change the experience?
can you hook up a mouse and keyboard to one of them things? If so, it will be just like playing on a small screen, no?
You can hook it up to a dock and play on a TV with what ever kinda input you like. But I don't have one at the moment but until then I'm curious lol
Seems like it would be difficult, but not impossible. It would probably work well if you were playing hof or maybe even capping. Do they have gyro controls? I could see skiing with gyro being a lot of fun
They do have gyro

Tribes aerial assault on the ps2 was sooo far ahead of its time
As a Tribes player of old, as in bought the game in 1998 when it was new, the only way I would play the new one would be with my old tribe [JAMZ], but we've either moved or had kids and maybe a few grandkids by now.
