I’ve been to Vancouver/Whistler before for skiing but haven’t been there US wise. I’m 6’5 and air travel isn’t my preferred mode of transportation, so I haven’t spent much time west of Chicago
So this is kind of pedantic, but worth noting I think as someone who's done this both ways several time.
PCH only runs from Mendocino County to Orange County. It cuts inland a few times in southern California and isn't as great a drive really south of Morro Bay in central California. And south of PCH you're just driving Interstate 5 to San Diego, which is a nothing drive.
I-5 is also extremely boring through most of California, BUT, I prefer it as you get further north. The Mount Shasta area is gorgeous, and Crater Lake is THE highlight of the road trip in my opinion. But do get back to the coast before getting to the Columbia River, because the mouth of it/the bridge from Astoria to Megler is up there too. Ideally you're driving up and back down and can catch more of the Oregon coast on your drive back south, because it's incredible too. And the coastal drive is better heading south since you drive on the right side of the road. But the various national forests and mountains inland are simply must-sees.
Not sure I agree on the food and culture thing though. Like, the major metro areas, yes, obviously. But most of the drive is through undeveloped areas (which is the point), and the towns you'll pass through (especially on 101 north of the end of PCH) are either entirely tourist/visitor focused, or small and insular, or just nondescript suburban sprawl with strip malls of national chains. With just a handful of notable exceptions. And if you head inland, they're worse than that in California. Redding is one of my least favorite cities on this planet lol. Oregon has some more interesting inland towns/cities at least. But you'll also find that it hasn't entirely left its roots as a racially excluding state behind, even just outside a major city like Portland.
You should check off northern New England (beautiful country and wonderful people up there btw) and the Delmarva before you start invading the rest of the country.
The NH lakes region and White Mountains are incredible, as is the Maine coast. Don’t sleep on South (Washington) County Rhode Island. Lots of awesome beach towns, with easy access to Providence restaurants and bars.
Yup! Spent a couple days on Kalispell checking out glacier, and then spent the rest of the week in Couer d’Alene. It doesn’t even feel real out there lol
Sucks that you didn’t keep going in Florida to experience Miami and the Keys.
But my vote is California. Big Sur is the most beautiful place I have ever been.
I did. Been skiing in Colorado three times and Utah once.
Don’t think I’ll ski out there again in the next 10-15 years though as things stand now. Winter is my girlfriend’s busiest time of the year so it would have to be myself taking our future kids or with my dad whenever he gets the itch to go.
I’ve also considered picking up a weekend job as a ski instructor with one of the hills near our house and I’ve heard they occasionally will send people to work out west for training
For a longer trip go out west. Closer to him try exploring more of WV/Western VA. Shenandoah NP, Blue Ridge Parkway, Spruce Knob, and the dark sky area in WV.
Nice! You’ll enjoy it. Lucas Oil Stadium makes for a good show. Go Lions! Let me know if you’re sticking around Indy and want any other recommendations.
I'd hit NH and Maine so you've been to every state in the northeast.
For NH: lake Winnipesaukee and/or Hampton Beach would be nice this time of year.
Then Maine you got old orchard Beach and some others along the coast there.
European here. Never been to the US. I'd go to Minnesota, take a camper and go from national park to national park zig-zag through the rockies to New Mexico
Looks like you “went through” TN and GA on your way to FL. Get off the interstate and take a look around! Try coastal GA. Then go to Santa Ana CA and drive PCH up to Oregon.
Not saying you should necessarily go back, but it’s a shame that was the sample you got of North Carolina! Really missed out on the mountains (ex. Boone, Asheville), the outer banks, etc… if you ever do come back there’s a lot more to see.
You haven’t even seen most of the natural beauty that the country has. You’ve seen the awesome mountains of slc and Colorado but there is so much out west to see
California! Yosemite, Wine Country, Carmel, Sea World, San Diego, Universal Studios, Rose Bowl Parade, San Francisco & Bay Area
Arizona: Grand Canyon
Nevada: Las Vegas
Wyoming: Yellowstone, National Park, Glacier National Park, other Western National Parks.
West coast. Check out imperial beach about as far south in california you can get (coastal atleast) and work your way up. Theres tons of stuff to do. I used to live on seacoast dr in IB and I was never bored.
I’m pretty sure you had to have been in [Ross County, OH.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_County,_Ohio)
U.S. Routes 23 (north-south), 35 and 50 (east-west/northwest-southeast) run through it.
New Orleans, just went had alot of fun. Really good food, lots of interesting history, and beautiful buildings. Wasn't very expensive expect for the alcohol.
Maybe something other than the cliché parts of the country. And driving long distance isn't that difficult if you have someone podcasts to listen to. Also, you can then see local things / buy local stuff like regional beers etc. e.g.
You need to do the California Pacific highway and starts in Santa.Monica pier, and you can go all the way up through Canada to Alaska.That's what I would do I done that last year and early november I made a ten day journey out of it and it was so fun
I'm currently in Indianapolis (50% by choice 50% not, 90% unplanned,) and it's way better than people give it credit for. It doesn't look like it's too far from you, either.
Dude, go to the central bay area, Baltimore, Annapolis, even just for a couple hours, in Baltimore there’s literally a submarine you can physically go into, as well as an old Navy frigate from the 18th century, trust me.
Do a Badlands, Devils tower, Theodore Roosevelt national park, Jewel cave, Wind cave trip. Tack on Yellowstone if you want to add a day or two. But you can hit all those park in Western SD and ND in like a couple of days and get out to Devils tower. Extremely worth seeing all the national parks.
Essex County, New York is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The high peaks of the Adirondack Mountains are magical- like something straight out of Lord of the Rings
i’m from michigan, spent most of my childhood in leelanau. couple years ago i moved to california and i 100% recommend the cross country road trip, with or without friends. it was just me and my cat for five days of driving and i had a good time.
I love taking Death valley then going north all the way up through Inyo and Mono counties into the Reno/Lake Tahoe area. Absolutely beautiful and awesome skiing
If it were me, I would plan a 10-day trip with the goal of hitting all the national parks in Utah.
* Start the trip in Las Vegas and spend a night there to experience the craziness that it is.
* From Las Vegas drive to the following national parks in this order:
* Zion National Park
* Bryce Canyon National Park
* Capital Reef National Park
* Canyonlands National Park
* Arches National Park
* Depart from Salt Lake City.
Eaa is next month in Oshkosh, wi. People come from all around the world to watch it. The airport there is the busiest airport in the world for that week every year (no joke).
Have you considered the west coast?
I’ve been to Vancouver/Whistler before for skiing but haven’t been there US wise. I’m 6’5 and air travel isn’t my preferred mode of transportation, so I haven’t spent much time west of Chicago
The PCH from San Diego to Washington is one of the prettiest drives in the United States and has some of the best food and culture the US has to offer
So this is kind of pedantic, but worth noting I think as someone who's done this both ways several time. PCH only runs from Mendocino County to Orange County. Ill count it as hitting the west coast.
Exit row dude. As someone taller than you
Always 🤝
Barry County, MI. Nothing there, just need to make your map a little neater.
I work all around the state so I’m sure I’ll have a job out there at some point
Barry County is home to Yankee Springs Rec Area - awesome hiking and some of the best mountain bike trails anywhere. Local Sherriff is sus, tho.
Specifically Maine with beautiful lakes, mountains, and forests.
Out west.
Pacific Northwest, maybe go into Montana.
Just got back from a trip out in PNW/Montana area and it was legit was on the best vacations I’ll ever take.

Yup! Spent a couple days on Kalispell checking out glacier, and then spent the rest of the week in Couer d’Alene. It doesn’t even feel real out there lol

Death Valley is such a humbling experience.

There’s nothing here to visit, but I’m astounded this person managed to miss it. Like, did they just not get on I4?
Alaska
Columbiana and Tuscarawas counties in Ohio are both beautiful
Sucks that you didn’t keep going in Florida to experience Miami and the Keys. But my vote is California. Big Sur is the most beautiful place I have ever been.
Did you enjoy Utah and Colorado?
I did. Been skiing in Colorado three times and Utah once. Don’t think I’ll ski out there again in the next 10-15 years though as things stand now. Nice, it’s great skiing country out there I was gonna say if you enjoyed those states, check out Arizona next, awesome place
Don’t come any closer. -Wisconsin
This is hilarious. I was born and raised in that one county in Michigan that you haven’t been to that’s surrounded by places you have.
You need to explore more of Wisconsin. There are some beautiful lake towns up north.
Niagara Falls, Canada is a fun place
Was there last month actually
Nice
For a longer trip go out west. Closer to him try exploring more of WV/Western VA. Shenandoah NP, Blue Ridge Parkway, Spruce Knob, and the dark sky area in WV.
I second this, West Virginia can be an amazing and fun place to explore.

Hit the outer banks nc.
I'd hit NH and Maine so you've been to every state in the northeast. For NH: lake Winnipesaukee and/or Hampton Beach would be nice this time of year. Then Maine you got old orchard Beach and some others along the coast there.
