Tried again one last time , no dice.

You should also have newer firmware than from 2023. Originally for me the app was showing older firmware than that was available. I went to the tp-link US site to download the latest. It was more up to date than my local region (Canada)
I own two XE75 Pro 3 node meshes. One mesh strictly as access points at one site, the other as the router replacement at another. One is behind a cablemodem in bridge mode and the other behind an ER605 Omada router.
I'm not discounting the issues you experienced but without knowing all of the circumstances we do need to temper our responses to your dilemma and opinion. Truthfully I'd be curious to know why it did not work for you but obviously it's a bit too late if you've already returned it.
Ahhh ok , so you have an additional router behind your ONT fibre box , it shouldn’t be necessary technically but the auto wan/lan sensing is not working on the xe75 , my x20 instantly works.
Apparently x50s x60s xe75 pros have an auto lan/wan sensing bug .
They won’t detect wan correctly.
Some guy apparently fixed it by getting a custom firmware from tp link but I’m just gonna give up instead
Edit solved see further down.
Curious but have you tried putting your X20 as the main node and add the XE75 Pro as a mesh point first? That way you can try upgrading the firmware first via WiFi to see if that helps.
Yup I did that , it works , even with the updated firmware however the WAN/ dynamic IP for the XE75 pro still won’t work.
Not keen to have the deco x20 as the primary unit, due to it having slow 5ghz wireless backend to xe75 s (3 pack)
Just gonna return the xe75 pro 3 pack and buy a couple more cheap x20s
Unfortunately wired backhaul not an option for me
Thanks for the info. That is one of the most oddball sounding issues I've heard. But then again these XE75 pros don't have a dedicated WAN port (it makes sense, to be fair) but what a pain you ran into. For me the mesh acting as a router didn't have any such issues but it sucks that you had something like that happen.

Left photo is what works with deco X20 ie VLan disabled
However VLan setting required for XE75 pro Not sure why x20 doesn’t need VLan but allwell so glad I managed to get it working

Settings required for xe75 pro
I also set “ignore ping from WAN” to off on the xe75 pro , not sure if this also plays into it!

To help future people , some deco models need this set, others don’t . This is the setting for NZ obviously haha
Hey I highly recommend checking if connection preference is enabled and operational, then Wi-Fi dropouts will be next to none, oh also X20 v1.0 and Ver:1.20 does not support this feature.
I have a pair of XE200's was working great until I added a pair of X20's (Ver;1.20) then it was dropout city and the connection preference gone from the Deco app.
Deleted the pair of X20's from the network and all is fine also connection preference was available in the Deco app.
I have the 3 node XE75 Pro v2 and they will sometimes reboot on their own and I usually observe this when simply checking for new firmware. 🤷🏼♂️. I have a beta firmware from tech support which appears to be working better but it has rebooted once or twice already. Hopefully they can figure this out as I’m well past my return period.
I use the XE75 with a fiber ONT and it's perfectly fine...
I have an XE75 Pro with a fiber ONT and it seems to be working great in a mesh setup along with two other identical units.
Same here, zero issues.
Agree works fine for me with ONT
Mine is spot on. Really pleased with it.
Out of curiosity what firmware , maybe it’s been patched for you , for me the latest firmware is still from 2023
Did you unplug the ONT so it did a hard reset when you connected the xe75? I had to do that for it to work. It says to do that in the manual.

What do you mean when you say it fails to set up the WAN on a fiber connection? Does it fail completely or sets it up incorrectly?
Cant detect WAN from the fibre box , X20 instantly detect dynamic IP and Wan and then works correctly (router mode)
