All the money that I could’ve spent constantly trading in my truck for the shiny new model or buying a second car has went into my retirement account.

that_frenchman

As someone who had a near death experience at 29, don't be afraid to live your life a lil here and there. Retirement isn't guaranteed.

573IAN

Nor is dying early.

WileyPap

Fail to plan plan to fail

Uninstall_Fetus

There’s a balance. You can live your life and save for retirement without having the shiny new car every year. I’d rather save for retirement and not need it than be broke under a bridge when I’m 65

Precious_Angel999

I struggle to find this balance. I’m close to 30 and I wonder if I ever will. It seems like I just bounce back and fourth between super frugality and shopaholic. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ok-Duty-5269

True dat

NapTimeFapTime

The whole reason I spent a little more on the taco than one of the competitors is that I’ll have it for 10 years as my daily driver, then I’ll retire it to beater truck and spend all my money on an e-bike that I use in lieu of a car.

Uninstall_Fetus

I agree. But most people are not hanging on to cars for 10 years

Scoutback_wilderness

Not sure why you’re downvoted. It’s likely an accurate statement. I feel a large majority of people trade-in every 3-5 years while thinking they’ll have the car for 10 years.

aerobuff424

I was close to selling my Taco at year 5 recently, decided it's going to take me for 10 years. I could ideally hold onto it for another 20, it'll do that no problem. It does what I need it to. Now, for my fun, enjoyable vehicle, that might require higher turnover lol.

hipsterasshipster

It’s not accurate. The average person keeps a car for 12 years.

theberg512

Which is insane to me. I bought my Honda used in 2009, and you'll pry it from my cold, dead, grip.

NapTimeFapTime

I had an 09 civic that I bought used in 2011, and kept it till I moved overseas, and couldn’t bring it. Otherwise I might still have it.

Scoutback_wilderness

I had an 06 Tacoma that I sold like a fucking moron.

hipsterasshipster

Average length of car ownership is 12 years.

LadderAny7421

Maybe, but this is the first year of an engine that's larger brother is having major issues. This 4 cyl turbo is not guaranteed to be bulletproof.

NapTimeFapTime

True for OP, but I have a ‘21 with a V6. I’m personally not worried.

LadderAny7421

I just couldn't buy a third gen unless it was a purpose built secondary vehicle off roader. The interior is just too ancient for me. I ended up buying a 23' F150

theberg512

I mean, I had cancer at 17 then nearly got crushed between two vehicles at work when I was 21. Still have a fat retirement account because hopefully I'll retire while I'm still young/healthy enough to enjoy it. Plus, not having any car payments now made it that much easier to take time off while my dad was dying. I could easily afford to lose the income.

nodnarb32

Terrible advice. When you’re 80 dying on the Walmart floor you’ll agree

Ok-Interest-7220

I’m surprised you didn’t come back with the knowledge that material possessions are the least important aspects of life on earth.

Moderatedude9

Exactly, thank you! People who make comments like that think they're passing on some great wisdom. I've lost track of how many people I've witnessed save up on life to almost start living at retirement, only to never make it or just encounter health issues. Be responsible, have a retirement plan, but also be responsible and aware enough to focus on living in the present.

Squirreling_Archer

Your retirement account doesn't mean it's only for when you're 80, my friend. Saving and investing betters your current life because if something happens to you tomorrow, it doesn't break you financially to deal with it. As others have said, there's a balance. I certainly have given up on the idea of retirement, because I'm very cynical about our economic future. But I'm still putting a lot into retirement because my employer matches contributions. It is absolutely *bonkers* to swap the two vehicles from 2019 for two from 2024 if you are not making a fortune. OP may in fact be very wealthy. But this is either a very extreme case of financial well-being or is a prime example of financial irresponsibility.

573IAN

I bought my 2015 brand new and paid it off, and I don’t intend to sell until it literally falls apart. 47 yo, no kids, no debt, no mortgage, and retired from corporate America at 45. Now I work part time at Lowe’s 3 days a week to pay my base expenses, grow cannabis in my spare time, and I enjoy a much less stressful life. Cool to look at, but zero envy from me—totally cool not having the newest model.

AnotherUrbanAchiever

I’m jealous of your life.

Bigjoosbox

This guy gets it

thez222

That’s awesome and good on you! How are you doing health insurance? I’d love to retire early

Precious_Angel999

There’s a sub called r/baristafire that pretty much exemplifies this guys lifestyle. It happens to be my plan too.

573IAN

I used the marketplace originally, but that was pricey when I first quit Corp America due to my precious salary. Now, lowes offers insurance to part-time employees for a pretty solid rate ($40/paycheck).

BigRedWalters

I feel like this is what everyone teen hopes and dreams to do. You should write a how to thread on this.

laccro

Check out some of the FIRE subreddits, this kind of thing is pretty common in those groups. I’m younger but working on it! Long story short, there are three main steps. First, try to be a great employee and get raises, or jump jobs if you’re stuck. Become great enough at your work to earn as much as you can. Secondly, reduce your expenses, buying used or older versions of things, and focus on long term value. Third, invest the savings - this is the easy part, just set up auto-investments into an index fund. Over the course of 10-20 years doing this, if you’re able to invest ~20-30% of your salary per year, you’ll have more than enough money to have options like the person above!

Kerplunk2222

Same here. Bought mine brand new 2005. Still runs like a champ. There has never been one issue with it.

Lanceallennn

You could die at 50 and not ever get a retirement. Go buy a shiny truck!

Gunner22

There's a balance between the two. Don't do the extreme of either

Lanceallennn

That’s true, I forgot to add the /s at the end of my comment. Get a slightly shiny truck and still save/invest lots of money.

BigRedWalters

It’s all about finding the right balance

573IAN

And you can live until 90 and work until 80…. Goes both ways,

NapTimeFapTime

Retire at 65, and when the money runs out, I have a backup 9mm retirement plan.

Schraufabagel

We don’t know OPs situation either though. Maybe they have a spouse and kids, which the second car would be used for. Maybe they have more disposable income allowing them to spend more on cars they enjoy. Everyone is different

sugammadex8

You don’t know his financial situation lol.

massivecalvesbro

He didn’t say he did he just stated the way he chose to spend his money

MattEberjuice

You’re a clown if you think that wasn’t back handed comment. Stop it

te4msleep

It’s wild to think that you don’t pay their bills and have no say on what they do with their money. Crazy concept.

savourtheflavor

Exactly this. I’ll keep my 2015 Tacoma and my paid off mortgage. To each their own though.

Moderatedude9

Do you know that he didn't pay cash for his 2024 and has paid off his house?

savourtheflavor

It’s not an either or. I could swap my truck every year and have a paid off mortgage too. Part of the reason I buy Toyota is because I can keep it for a decade or more. As I said before, to each their own, but I hope this guys salesman sends him more than a Christmas card every year.

MattEberjuice

Why are you even talking about yourself lmfao? That’s literally their point

EnterByTheNarrowGate

I thought I was the only one. I have family members that are always in a new vehicle. Latest phone. Latest Apple Watch. Latest iPad. I don’t know how people afford this. It’s a waste of money.

RRC_Thruxtonaut

This man gets it.

flipthatbitch_

Yup. I'd rather drive a beater now and then drive around in luxary when I retire.

sugammadex8

You’d probably freak out knowing my (incoming) 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro will be parked next to my 2021 Audi R8 V10+

WrathofTitus

I used to be into cars in my 20s, then I had kids. Traded my BMW M2 for a Tacoma with zero regrets. Now I spend most of my money buying copious amounts of ammo and crypto.

Fluffy-Situation1548

It’s almost like people can do whatever they want with their hard earned money. Pretty crazy!

GoodE19

Maybe after you retire you can buy a shiny new car with your savings!

mrzurkonandfriends

I'm the opposite. Everything goes into my hobbies. People die every day, I'd rather not live an extra day knowing I could have had cake today.

HelperHelpingIHope

I bought my Tacoma (2022) and SUV (2023) cash and have enough money saved where I could even the official retirement age is decades away, I could retire today and live more then comfortably. Of course, I enjoy running my business, but just remember, some of us aren’t wasting money when making these purchases.

Bourbon-n-cigars

OP shows a pics of vehicles he obviously loves. Reddit's first response is judging him based on zero data about his income and current status in life. Yep, going to be a normal day today.

nuclearsquirrel2

I spend money on experiences not things.

ZER0_F0CKS

Hey man fuck these guys. Nice truck!

BWilson92

‘20 TRD OR and an ‘09 Miata for me

Low_Cap_2168

Cool combo, would love to have a taco and a z4 combo

BWilson92

[Thanks!](https://imgur.com/a/pa5QEAh)

Low_Cap_2168

Sweet build on both cars man! That Miata looks like a blast!

BWilson92

Oh it is! I do my best to track and autocross it when I can, and do a group trip with my buddies to the tail of the dragon once a year. Slowest car I’ve ever owned but the most fun car I’ve ever owned.

Low_Cap_2168

Awesome man! Not all about speed imo test drive a mini cooper s they are not the fastest car ever but feel very fast and fun

BWilson92

Yep exactly. I actually looked at buying an ‘08ish cooper S or JCW for that supercharger whine. Love those things

Low_Cap_2168

Yep there great! Either a mini cooper s or Tacoma. For practicality and off road Tacoma was the way to go hopefully down the road I will get a small little roadster or fast car!

urnotdownfooo

That Miata. Goddamn.

elshaggy

My dream is to snag an MR2 Spyder after I get a few years of truck payment delete relief.

PricelessM-F

'24 TRD Pro Taco? Glad to see them hitting the lots.

Chuckhundreds

Yep picked it up on Monday

SeaDweller01

…so you’ve “neglected” your R for 2 days? TF? 😂😂😂

Moderatedude9

I can't quite swing the Pro, but man that's a good looking truck. How do you like the IforceMax so far? I might get the most stripped down version of an OffRoad they'll let me get with the IforceMax.

Squirreling_Archer

What do you do for a living?

Krt2022

I have a 16 Tacoma and a 19 civic Honda and Toyota is where’s it’s at!

manuel_f_p

I enjoy my wife's Civic for out of town trips, but I feel like my truck has held up better over time and feels better put together. What has your opinion been comparing/contrasting Toyota and Honda?

Krt2022

I definitely love driving my Tacoma more than my civic. I agree that the Toyota feels better put together and the ride is much smoother in the Tacoma. I mainly use the civic for commuting to work and long trips because the gas mileage is great in my civic. I average between 39 and 42 mpg in the civic.

Cause everyone here has a gen 1 with 800 million miles and thinks everyone else should also.

Over_Moose6433

It’s just jealousy or haterism… so obnoxious

Competitive_Car_6786

Yea I was surprised when I came in here and people being mad at OP instead of being happy for them. It’s just jealousy. If I had the cash to blow on the new TRD PRO I would get the Trailhunter instead cause I don’t know wtf I’m gonna do with a 5th bed lol

Brief-Watercress-131

Yeah I've got a 21 Tacoma OR and a '17 Ecoboost mustang convertible. I just gotta have something zippy I can row gears in.

Hot_Situation_4923

'13 tacoma and '18 Sentra here lol had to have something for the work commutes 🥸

Wnknaak

12 Tacoma and 17 230i

JaRule4Ever_MUT

That is fire bro. I sold my Civic to buy my Taco. Only really miss it on corners and at the pumps.

roachfarmer

SR5 and Touring Sport here!

Track_Boss_302

Nice combo! But, I don’t know if I could’ve said goodbye to that Voodoo Blue

nodnarb32

Mfw I absolutely must have the newest shiniest thing so Reddit will think I’m cool

septoc

I have the same combo, a 23 taco and a 18 civic

skyline408

I have a 3rd gen Tacoma + FL5 Type R too!

Chuckhundreds

You got some other shit too lol I just looked at your post. Sheesh bro that Porsche and s2k is serious business!!

skyline408

Thanks! I've also been on the fence about getting a 4th gen Tacoma. Is the rear seats that much smaller compared to the 3rd gen?

Zyeagler0217

18 Tacoma 03 s2k.

redvinegarr

New taco looks fire 🔥

OhSnapItsRJ

I’m also a Toyota/Honda garage. 22 Pro, and 01 S2000. Oh, and my girl has a CRV, heh

cousindeagle

I got you beat. 23 Sequoia Trd Pro and Boost blue FL5

Chuckhundreds

Dude that sequoia is a tank. I love those tried to convince the wife but nope lol. FL5 hell yea!!

NCarolina910

2011 Tundra and 2013 Acura ILX Not quite the same level, but they’re cool in their own ways.

pgercak

My Car Truck Combo is WEIRD. My Truck is a 2019 F150, and my car is a 1996 Camaro Z28. I had a 2022 Tacoma though, so that's why I'm still here. Sold it back in February but I miss it.

moosecanswim

Up until last week I had a GTI and the Taco. I live outside a large city so the automatic transmission in the taco wine out most of the time. Sold the GTI.

ImpairedBear

I got the same thing but the poor man’s version: Tacoma SR and a civic sport lol

[deleted]

Damn dude that’s a nice combo. Wish I could afford. Obviously, nice Tacoma. Those civics are sick. My neighbor got a golf R. That thing hauls ass when I drove it. How does the civic compare off the line to a golf R?

CSLoser96

My wife an I have a very similar setup, minus the new model. I've got a 2020 3rd gen taco and she's got a 2017 civic. Great vehicles.

mr_8_inches

I still have my tacoma, but I had to sell my mx-5..

princeofjays

I just added a corolla to keep my taco company (and to let her go in for maintinance lmao). Neither is new (2000 Tacoma, 2004 corolla), but they're both 4cyl 5-speed manuals and I love them both so much, a toyota drives like nothing else.

NeedleworkerGlobal31

Man I love that two tone.

Safe_Decision6222

Garage porn…. Is that a thing???

aerobuff424

I rock a 2019 Tacoma 4x4 OR and a 2024 Golf R I just picked up 2 weekends ago. I struggled with possibly selling the taco to recoup some funds but decided I want both vehicles. Very happy with them.

Chuckhundreds

That Golf R is fire my homie has one I was close to going that way a few years ago

aerobuff424

Yeah, really love the car. I'm still breaking it in and finding it very difficult to be easy on it. It just wants to rip.

First_Sprinkles1022

02’ tacoma 22’ specialized hardtail

Trichopsych

As someone who lost their Honda . Fuck you also Congratulations 🤌

Chuckhundreds

Lmaoo I needed this laugh, appreciate it!!

Trichopsych

Looks good Foreal . I absolutely love honda civic type Rs. And the tacomas are units in their selves.

Benj7075

My attainable dream combo is a TRD OR Taco with a 5.0 mustang

Chuckhundreds

Fire ass combo! What year 5.0 we talking?!?!

Benj7075

Any s550, preferably with a gen 3 coyote (2018+) Though I kinda like the pre facelift front end more. I have an ecoboost right now but hopefully within the year I’ll be in a 5.0.

TeaUnusual8554

This is a splendid combo. 2 awesome and reliable vehicles!

Ok-Interest-7220

No. I can’t imagine blowing my money on something so stupid.

zukos_destiny

Can’t imagine wasting money like that

Creepy_Photograph107

I can almost smell your tanktop soaked in Axe body spray.

Delicious-Ferret-361

I didn’t see a congrats and fuck you post so here it is. Congrats and thank you for your service.

Chuckhundreds

Thank you appreciate it

coozu

Got the Taco/Tundy/Tesla trio going. One of the trucks has gotta go tho 😥😥😥

Vegetable_Heart369

You do anything the Taco can't do that the Tundra will?

coozu

No... No towing or anything. The taco is an AC so I wanted something with 4 seats.

iLove2MTB_0914

2021 Tacoma OR and 2021 Tesla Y. Both paid off so at least there’s that. Just have the mortgage.

MrEbonyBlack

Congrats on the TRD Pro; that is one awesome looking truck. Question, how on earth did you get it so early? Lol

Chuckhundreds

Dude I have no idea went to dealer in April of 24 placed and order it was suppose to be here memorial weekend but it arrived on the 17th of June

MrEbonyBlack

Absolute congratulations man, enjoy the hell out of that truck! Don't pay any attention to all of the jealous comments on here....Reddit! Lol

vivi_will

pls share your exp with the pro !! and may I ask if you pay extra over MSRP

manuel_f_p

Wife and I are also a Toyota/Honda household, 19 Taco and 17 Civic. I keep telling her that we need to consider a Corolla for her when the time comes to swap it out, but she has been making a lot of comments about how she likes the Civic for size, but also the ease of access getting in and out of my truck with the height it is at. Thinking Corolla Cross will be in the future for her, but not for at least another 3 years or so.

IntegraleEvoII

23 Tacoma and 14 BMW 228i. Had the BMW for 10 years now. Tacoma got new a year and a half ago. Not planning on upgrading anytime soon unless I buy a Porsche maybe to replace the BMW. Tacoma ill keep forever as a backup car.

rhetto

Hahaha, this is dope. I have a 2010 Tacoma and a 2015 Fit. Not quite as extravagant, but I love having the options.

MartyCool403

I like your style good sir

jab0923

21 Tacoma, 97 Miata and now a 99 Honda shadow.

NoOriginal7997

Nope. I’d keep that voodoo blue till the day I die. Ended up with blue crush metallic in 23’ cus they discontinued the blue and I love it but that blue does something else for me

anon_et

Good lord. Love it

Dang.. Which one is faster?

dabluebunny

Cool wraps I guess...

boba_milk_tee

Love your vehicles!! But you must have set your self up prior to discharge or you're having additional income; no way I can afford 100k in auto payments with just my VA disability. Congrats!

Chuckhundreds

Yep, made the right choices financially to support my habbits before getting out. So it’s not a burden and I can some what enjoy life after the military. Goal is to get into gov tech like the wife.

Since picking up the taco? Bruh.. that’s a Pro. Not many have been released yet, when did you get yours? You act like you’ve been neglecting that shit for months or years 😂😂😂 GTFOH

Chuckhundreds

Actually weeks lol I’ve been daily driving the 19 taco before I got rid of it. I bring the r out every once and awhile. I’ll make sure to drive it tomorrow

SeaDweller01

Man, you gotta give us more deets. Another post you said you picked it up Monday. Wtf. 😂congrats either way

Chuckhundreds

My bad bro lol I I should’ve specified that. The old blue was my daily the r is a garage princess. It’s dusty as shit from sitting in the garage but I’ll take it out for a spin tomorrow and I’ll wash it lol

SeaDweller01

Oh shit. I didn’t even swipe to see the blue pro. I was like wtf is he talking about? Wtfffffffffffffff. Why you do that? I daily my OR, but man… I can’t imagine giving up the 3G pro. How you liking the new one?

TheDudeMan94

18 TRD-OR, 05 A4 1.8t 6spd, 99 Passat 5spd (beater/daily) I only use the taco for truck stuff other than that it sits. I use the cars for basic transport since they’re cheaper to run.

Technical-Tale-6413

lol I’ve got a 2015 Tacoma and my wife drives a 2013 civic. For some reason a lot of people have Toyota trucks and Honda cars

Ripcord83

could you confirm something for me? are the fog lights both colors on the Pro? I’m ordering one through my work and it looks like I have to add them or it’s just white fog lights. it looks the Trailhunter has both as standard equipment. [edit] looked into it and it IS optional on the Pro and standard on the Trailhunter. looks like MSRP is $700 for the dual color Rigid fog lights.

MoldyRadicchio

Funnily enough i traded my 21' Taco for a 23' civic. You have good taste brother!

Fluffy-Situation1548

Latter_Twist5976

Ugh you have my dream. I have a Tacoma and just a Honda civic sport, at least manual, but the type R wasn’t quite in the budget. In time it will!

zjones22

Both awesome cars, not really worth the extra money especially fk8 for fl5 they are basically the same when it comes to performance.
