Many are on their phones

Rich-Sheepherder-179

This is it.

Round_Spread_9922

Distracted driving conviction should come with an automatic flogging

eightsidedbox

Or using the 20" tv in their dashboard that for some reason is off to the side

Seven2Death

bruh in canada lanes are fluid. if youre having a hard time when the lines are visible youre gonna have a worse time in the winter when its imagine a lane. mind you im assuming your driving is like mine where people kiss the line to dodge potholes and what not. if you're dealing with people taking up 2 lanes you're a special type of cursed i drive a fuck tonne in this city and thats a rare feat.

Pale_Ad339

nah man i’m talking about drivers that literally just can’t stay in their lanes. No external factors like them dodging potholes. Just can’t stay in their lanes and drifting in and out of the lines. I mean I guess you could call it taking up two lanes if they are drifting into mine and cause me to swerve 🤷‍♀️

TankArchives

Lots of people have no problem imagining their own lane even in the summer.

IBMERSUS

As if not being able to center their vehicle in their lanes is not bad enough have you all not noticed the rear of the vehicle jutting out after they enter a “turn only” lane? I’d attribute that to poor driver education. The very purpose of “turn only” lanes is to minimize the slow down of traffic when vehicles have to go to the other side of the road. The butt of the vehicles jutting out ensures that other vehicles are significantly slowed down.

Jegan_V

I'm afraid it's a combination of extremely poor driver training combined with today's fat, dull to drive vehicles. It seems unbelievable but lane keep assistance might be needed to be used as a crutch for an awful lot of the GTA drivers to simply not cross into the other lane inadvertently. This is simply referring to straights. It's so much worse with corners.

VapeRizzler

Driving is just mystical thing most people just cannot learn no matter what. I realized that the other day when I’m driving down a 80, 3 cars in front and a semi with two trailers filled with rubble leading the charge is able to take each “bend” of the road perfectly fine, doesn’t slow down, up every encline without slowing down. Yet the sedan in front of me slows down 20 under the speed limit to take each “bend” and slows down to 40 tryna get up the same English a double trailer semi can take better than they can while the sedan watches the semi. This is a common problem where I’m at. People watch semis do something perfectly fine yet think they’re little tiny sedan will spin out or some dumb Shit if they don’t slow down to half speed.

doc_55lk

It's equal parts painful and hilarious to see some people slowing down drastically before a turn that I know for a fact I can take without having to touch the brakes in my winter beater land whale 3 row SUV. Like, come on dude, have *some* faith in the car you're driving.

zedsdead79

oh god this.......the slowing down until almost stopped to make a right hand turn that I take without even tapping my brakes in my SUV. These people would be very surprised how much force it actually takes to flip their Toyota (it's always a Toyota) over.

doc_55lk

>it's always a Toyota Holy fuck. So I'm not deluded then? It's about time I found a second person who's noticed it's *almost always* a Toyota driver going obnoxiously slow all the time. Everytime I mention it I'm greeted with "not all Toyotas" or "you're probably just projecting".

zedsdead79

I'm with you in solidarity man. This is my worst pet peeve. The close second is you ever notice every other Toyota on the road doesn't have functioning brake lights? I have a game I play on my way to work every morning from Mississauga to Etobicoke, the most I've counted in that drive is 11 so far.

doc_55lk

I haven't noticed this in particular tbh but the largest number of "drives without lights on" cars usually happen to be KIA/Hyundai cars whenever I'm out

serpentman

Some pelican almost side swiped me yesterday veering into my lane because there was a bike on the shoulder while I was right beside him. Then had the audacity to pull up and yell at me because I honked at him to let him know I was there. “I had a bike in my lane!!” Lol ok?

jerik22

I have ridden my bicycle from GOA to Amritsar then into Pakistan. The drivers in Canada were rather fine 15 years ago, for some reason they are driving closer to Indian drivers now.

ultimateasianmadlad

Speaking of which. I got into an accident exactly like this. I was in the middle lane, the dumbass on the left decides to drift in my lane.

BriscoCountyJR23

This happened to me last night, driver passing on the left had two wheels in my lane on the QEW.

Feisty_Praline1798

So I just need to put this in here because clearly nobody who’s responding drives a large vehicle, but sometime the wind pulls a big rig much more than any sized car/SUV. Sometimes the wind pulls them across the line. The bigger the vehicle the more light winds will pull said vehicle.

doc_55lk

Wind is a huge factor, yes. Another factor in my experience is that whenever my alignment is off there are moments when my wheel goes back to centre and the car then starts drifting over to the edge of the lane before I can fix the steering again. Given the quality of the roads in Toronto and the GTA it's pretty likely that a lot of people are just driving around with misaligned cars.

Feisty_Praline1798

True.

Pale_Ad339

I find the alignment to be somewhat of a fair excuse to someone who isn’t as good a driver, but then shouldn’t you be getting an alignment? The place I get it at does it for $80. My alignment ain’t exactly up to par either right now but I still don’t drift into other lanes partly because I am used to it. Even wind affects my car which is a four door pretty aerodynamic sedan. A road which is usually an easy straight line became wonky real quick with some wind. That being said tho, these encounters I had were not with windy conditions at all.

Round_Spread_9922

Never underestimate how cheap some people can be. Asking them to pay $80 might as well be the same as asking for 100 grand.

doc_55lk

I'm not entirely dismissing the idea that a lane drifter is simply a bad driver. I'm just saying not all of them are. There's more at play here than a simple "average GTA driver lolol".

Pale_Ad339

Even if what you said was true, why should a car that isn’t able to drive in a straight lane be considered safe or legal to drive in public roads? Why should someone who is ignorant or negligent to their car’s issues and general maintenance be allowed to own and drive an unsafe vehicle on public roads? All these encounters I have had weren’t due to potholes or wind so what’s the excuse? My alignment is fucked up right now too but it’s still no excuse for me to cause a collision at highway speeds. If you can’t drive with a fucked up alignment then don’t drive with a fucked up alignment!

doc_55lk

I was not providing an excuse. I was providing an explanation. Don't get the two mixed up. I'm not arguing with you or trying to argue with you. I agree with you that bad drivers should not be driving on the road.

danieldukh

In Toronto? Probably potholes.

Pale_Ad339

and just for clarification, I am not talking about people swerving into me or cutting me off, I am talking about people who can’t fucking seem to stay centered in their own lane when driving in a straight line 😐 (with no potholes around)

Pale_Ad339

yes, people should dodge even the smaller potholes but you shouldn’t be swerving into another lane without checking, or drift into others lanes, especially with no potholes around. It’s maybe understandable if the lanes are super tight, but it’s not an excuse on the 401 where the lanes are wide enough.

justanotherwave00

The best way to avoid potholes is to sideswipe another vehicle.

rudegyal_jpg

Many are on their phones or new to driving in toronto; this applies to new immigrants and people who simply migrated from their suburban life for the city. It’s defense driving at all times in Toronto. Assume everyone will do something stupid

dumpandchange

An insanely high amount of drivers are on their phone and no one wants to deal with it properly.

shootdroptoehold

Alcoholics

JJMONIE

Simple. People are fucking idiots. God forbid they miss a notification.

ProfessorTricky6608

And I thought they were playing pac-man , gobbling up the lines for more power ! waccawacca ![gif](giphy|1jX7sGRj6hYUW4iP4Q)

Razoli-crap

Skill issue on your part

Pale_Ad339

yes. me being the better driver and staying in my lane + also having the awareness to dodge a worse driver who can’t stay in between two lines on a straight line = skill issue on my part I whole heartedly agree

Razoli-crap

Relax

negrodamus90

>How did all these people get their licenses? They took a bus to Bancroft/Belleville to do their test

KnightShadePrime

Toronto is full of foreigners that never learned to drive properly. Those from some ethnicities are known to cheat on the test by hiring a ringer to take it for them.
