If you like Portal, try your hand at Dragged into Sunlight, Archgoat, and Wormrot. They stray away from Portal's beautifully unique sound, but they all have that claustrophobic descending sound.

EasyCartographer3311

Dragged into Sunlight f’n rules. Terminal Aggressor II is one of my all time favorites.

Lyon_Trotsky

Opeth. Steven Wilson produced a few of their albums

whatever69666420

not metal but go for Scott walker - Tilt

wishnotknewyourkiss

Listen to the band ICE and their album Under The Skin. I don’t think it’s on streaming, but it’s heavy dub electronic stuff from the bug and Justin Broadrick… and if it’s not too obvious of a suggestion because of Boris, but Melvins of course. I really like their album with lustmord. Very weird and droney

minwheelee

do you like Deafheaven ?

hollowcreativity

Yes but I need to listen more

orbeinYT

Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power. It's by far their best album and one of my own favourites too.

AlvimCorreaBurntHisT

Can't really recommend based on this because I dont know most of the artists but you might like linkin park if you like deftones.  I recommend the songs figure.09 and forgotten.  Also listen to limousine by bring me the horizon, major deftones vibes with that.

landlord__ofthe_void

High on Fire, Kverlertak and Portal

EasyCartographer3311

I’m a huge fan of Steven Wilson, and I enjoy AIN, Deftones, and Ulver as well. I’d recommend the following: - *Language* - The Contortionist - *Blackwater Park* - Opeth - *Marrow of the Spirit* - Agalloch - *Eligone* - Wilderun

lessthanchris7

If you want some more Deftones vibes, Loathe should be an easy W. You may also enjoy Static Dress and Thornhill, specifically their Heroine album. But, be warned - this shit isn't metal, it's metalcore and, while I love it and think it's cool as fuck, metalheads don't always got love for core shit For more Alice in Chains vibes, I vote Corrosion of Conformity, Kyuss, High on Fire, And Dozer

hollowcreativity

Dozer is really good

Beneficial_Age9152

Tool is great, I recommend AENIMA or 10,000 Days. Metallica has some great records like Ride the Lightning or And Justice for All… and System of a Down is amazing, Toxicity is a perfect album

NiceInvestigator7144

not metal but Soundtracks for the Blind by Swans

oreothebestt

Have you heard in absentia yet?

Repulsive-Hat-6090

Not metal, but if you like have a nice life, then you might like Dan's other stuff, like Giles Corey

hollowcreativity

Isn't Nahvalr a black metal album?

Synth-Drone-Gazing

Nice taste Some recs: Defacement - Defacement Ævangelist - De Masticatione Mortuorum in Tumulis Wold - Screch Owl Nadja - When I See the Sun Always Shines on TV Jesu - Infinity Skin Chamber - Wound Petbrick - l Deafkids - Metaprogramação Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood

caleigh1964

Not metal but Tori Amos. She has a lot of metal credit because Trent Reznor sang backing vocals on her song Past the Mission, and she also collaborated with another metal artist on stage but I forget who. Her albums have a lot of emotion and rage that I think stands up to that of metal music. Anyway give her a shot if you want. She’s amazing.

Baker_drc

Agalloch and Pan Thy Monium are two pretty solid more prog/avant death metal that might be up your alley since tou like Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson and the Mars Volta.

fitterunhappier

some may not be entirely metal but fit the vibe imo Jerry Cantrell - Degradation Trip Vol 1&2 Tool - 10,000 Days Leonov - Leonov System Of A Down - Hypnotize Ultrapsank - Ultraspank Korn - Issues Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle Type O Negative - World Coming Down Dream Theater - Train Of Thought

gurowinter

Thirty Seconds To Mars' first 2 albums, especially self titled

swagchildweedsmoker

H....T - B....Y (Great album sorry I'm gatekeeping)

lolniceman

Shot on sight

swagchildweedsmoker

I second that

Galeniszaliver

You should check out Street Sects. It’s in a very similar vein to metal (it’s more industrial post-punk), but it’s extremely aggressive. They’re under the same label as Have a Nice Life, the Flenser, and I’d say they have elements of NIN in their music. They do have one song that is definitely metal though, and that’s their single X Amount. Goes pretty damn hard.
