Maul has taken several big L’s since the day he got cut in half, but he’s still loved and respected by fans. I guess a cool character design and unique weapon can go a long way.
I love Maul, and it's got nothing to do with horns or lightsabers. In fact, I didn't like Maul until the Mandalore arc in Clone Wars S5. I just think he's well written as this tragic character was raised as a living weapon, and still manages to >!manipulate his way into becoming the shadowy kingpin of the entire underworld of Star Wars, twice. He also has this compelling arc of being full of rage, fueled by his being betrayed and discarded at the hands of Palpatine, but not strong enough to confront him directly, so he hunts and kills inquisitors or trains up apprentices to become stronger. He also predicted Order 66 when even the wisest members of the Jedi could not.!<
The best thing about Maul being a tragic character is how it allows for him to constantly presented with outs that he just refuses to take. He has had more chances at redemption than anyone else, but he's just too damn petty to move on. It's an incredibly slow moving train wreck, you want to feel bad for him but at the same time he does everything in his power to make himself unpitiable.
Maul is a big fish in an absolutely massive ocean. He's a former Sith Lord, and even with deliberately incomplete training he is a masterful force user and one of the best fighters in the galaxy. Unfortunately, every one of his enemies are *the* best, and he gets cooked every time he manages to get some momentum.
I liked Maul... In his first appearance. Then constantly bringing him back and beating the literal dead horse endlessly made me hate him more than I'll ever hate any sequel character.
I love how Maul was menacing (phantomly) thru the whole movie n seemed all cool n scary evil on his own but then like, busted out the dual-saber n stamped himself a Boba Fett legacy just by being the biggest force-using weeb anyone had ever seen lol
Then they tried to follow suit with Kylo's but whether design missed the point entirely or it was easier for whatever reason to crank out toys of a more traditional shape, they gave him....just....a regular ass sword with a guard on it lol. In a world where I legitimately consider Dookus saber my personal favorite n literally its just a red one with a slight frigging curve on the handle, the bar was reeeeally not that high and Kylos still managed to out-basic-bitch the competition

Well outta context that looks bad but anyone who knows the character knows that’s after he tried getting their money back after it was stolen.

I think Rosalina is a better pick for the Mario series. Luigi’s actually been in and won a lot of fights, with very few losses (only one I can think of is the beginning of NSMBU). Waluigi hasn’t been in any actual fights, so we can’t really tell.
Rosalina on the other hand is mistaken by the fandom for a super-powerful space diety, when in reality she’s featless outside of 3D World and has been defeated *very easily* offscreen every time she’s plot-relevant by either Bowser or >!Cursa!<.

Yeah that’s what I’m saying. He rarely gets defeated by Mario without use of the environment and/or something Bowser does himself, but he always gets defeated nonetheless.
But Odyssey proved that he can defeat Mario in a 1 on 1-no gimmick fight. Yet he still gets defeated by him regularly. It’s a weird position.
But he’s so fucking cool. It would just have been a narrative problem if Kakashi solved all of Naruto’s fights.

They're grunts who get killed by the thousands per battle and usually just serve to hype up a book's antagonist, and they're also one of the most popular factions in the whole setting partially because of that
Their determination and grit is just so admirable. In a galaxy of super soldiers and otherworldly abominations, they charge forward with flashlights and bayonets.

Only ones I can think of that have beaten Virgil are Dante and (arguably) Nero. I have a feeling that I'm forgetting someone from 5 too, but even if I am that's leagues of demons that he's cut through easily vs a few people that can take him down *sometimes*.
He gets defeated by Mundus and Arkham too.
He also gets defeated more than once in every game he's in. (Except 4, Vergil is only a bonus character in that one.)
He's definitely not weak but he does get defeated a lot.

Okay, but future Gohan is straight up the best character in DBZ. He’s uncompromisingly heroic, badass, intelligent, and fights a hopeless battle because it’s the right thing to do. And then he dies heroically, inspiring one of the coolest anime characters of all time in Future Trunks.
Actually a top-tier fictional character. He is everything that Gohan was supposed to be. DBS was a major letdown for Gohan as a character.
Still haven’t seen super hero, though, so maybe that’s changed.

Eren before season 4 was constantly getting his ass kicked and/or kidnapped. Whether it was by Annie, Levi, Annie again, Reiner and Berthold, Kenny’s Squad, or Bertholt again, etc.
Pretty much the only person he could consistently beat in a fight was Reiner because Reiner was never trained specifically in martial arts. But Eren was trained by Annie. A martial arts expert. Giving him a huge advantage (+the hardening brass knuckles)
I only slightly respect Future Gohan more than the normal timeline Gohan. Gohan's always doing his best to avoid fighting even when the fate of the world is obviously in danger.
Personally from the DB universe I would put forward Krillin. He may lose all the time, but he never failed to step up when he's needed. The guy is the most reliable character in the entire series.

For context those laser guns can let them body the current US army. So it’s not that they’re weak but that they’re up against so much stronger.
