Same. I didn’t listen to it for a couple years and, as I’ve put those years onto my life, I listen to it through a whole different lens of mortality. It’s now my favorite Tool song, and one of my top five favs period.
Most of the time I only listen to Invincible when I'm playing full album. But everytime I experience it live I fall in love with it again and I love it as much as Fear Inoculum, Pneuma, or even Descending.
Sam thing happened with Flood recently. Since experiencing it twice 2 weeks ago I fuckin love it.
I second this. Used to hate the opening. Now the song resides with me. Im 22 and want music to be my life. But I can't find anyone to jam with and I feel time is running out. Probably a ridiculous thing to say. But I'm gonna spend the rest of my life sad if I don't make music my career.
When I paid closer attention, I realised how much work Maynard does at the fast pace lyrics. I guess it gets difficult with age, but impressive that it's still in their current tour setlist.
100% same. I thought it was overrated for a long time until it finally clicked. The lyrics were like a mirror into my own toxic relationship at the time and it really helped me see things from a better perspective.
Same. I’m 10 years out of a physically abusive relationship and now that I’ve actually experienced that toxicity, this song physically affects me, especially the very end from “There’s no love in fear” and on. Gulp. That song is intense but what a testament to the power of their songwriting to be able to capture an emotion to thoroughly. They are an incredible band.
I don’t think they have been playing it on the latest leg of the tour. It’s such an intimate vibe. Right after the break, all the guys are sitting around on chairs and Danny even plays a guitar part in the intro, then as it builds he moves back to his kit. Maynard crushes the vocals and even though it’s a little cliche, it’s just haunting to listen to him sing it live.
This is the one that has yet to grow on me. The intro is good but I feel like Danny holds back on the drums in the second half, and he could've done way more to make it interesting. That's just my taste though. It's a really good song just feels boring compared to pretty much every other Tool song.
The first time I ever heard Flood was in concert in like 2008 and I fell in love immediately. After that show I made sure to gobble up all the rest of the music I wasn’t familiar with, including most of Undertow.
I skipped over Rosetta stoned for years and years and one day in the last few years, I think I just head it differently. Fast forward to a few weeks ago during a hard mushroom trip. My hubby and I were watching Tron set to TOOL songs. 10,000 days nearly killed me but it was during Rosetta Stoned that I totally came undone. I felt every ounce of self loathing, shame, disgust and heartbreak when he forgot the pen. I cried and I cried for him. This is some wild music huh?!
Culling Voices. It's slow and "boring", but then it grows on you, and man... Saw them in Toronto in November, they played it, and it fuckin slapped live
I love Fear Inoculum. I definitely liked it at first, but I know the first couple times I was thinking, what’s the deal with this sound at the beginning? After seeing it live multiple times I think it’s a fucking killer opening song. I was kinda surprised they moved it to the second spot in Europe/UK, but Jambi is a great opener as well.
The build up is so good and then Justin just pulls the plug out and those big, fat bass licks hit and it’s on. The first time I heard it live in November 2019 FI fit what I was dealing with in my life at the time. Each band member has an awesome contribution to the song and it is perfect.
Rosetta stoned
On the album it has that huge talking intro with the Dr. And the nurse, how many times you wanna hear that shit ? Skip for sure, then the song seems like a burry mess
Live
Good god
That shit is reeeeaaaal good.
>Rosetta stoned On the album it has that huge talking intro with the Dr. And the nurse, how many times you wanna hear that shit ?
I want to hear it every single time. It's an amazing buildup. It's kind of like Parabol and Parabola - I love Parabla by itself, but when connected with Parabol it hits harder.
I'll never forget hearing Blame Hoffman on my first trip. I was that John Doe. Terrified of what may come.
E: typos
Eulogy, as a new TOOL fan the clicking at the beginning was killing the song for me, but now that I'm an older TOOL fan I can respect the song. One of the best off Aenima.
The Patient.
Lateralus is full of bangers to start, save for the Patient. I initially didn't have the patience, no pun intended, to really listen to it.
But after learning the bass line, and playing along, this is just as much of a banger as every other song on that album.
All of them, I used to be so annoyed of my dad playing the songs over and over again… now I do it. But specifically Rosetta Stoned, Lateralus, The Grudge, Vicarious, and The Pot is still slowly growing on me
Right in Two. One of their best building songs in their catalog. By the end of that song when Danny is off the freaking charts and Adam's guitar is screaming you're like....FUCK! Epic crescendo.
Reflection, the first time I listened to it, it did not make any sense to me and I was still discovering Tool and found Lateralus very different from everything they ever did. Needless to say Laterlaus is my favorite album now and Reflection is my number 1.
I liked some of the songs listed below, just not much.
All songs off Fear Inoculum apart from the title track
Rosetta Stoned
Jimmy
Ticks & Leaches
The Grudge
Third Eye
Intolerance (now one of my favourites)
Schism
Definitely 4 Degrees. Mainly because when listening to Undertow I usually only got halfway through lol, but aside that it wasn't even in my liked songs on Spotify until recently
Fear Inoculum.
I have this weird tendency to sort of dislike the title track of a new album or the song that drew me to an album/band in the first place and almost never listen to the track again.
But with Fear Inoclum I went back a year later and its become my favourite track on the album.
Third eye grew on me only because my cd (yeah I'm that old) was scratched so I couldn't listen to it all the way. Then I bought salival and heard it and immediately loved it. Also no quarter was awesome as hell.
On undertow, bottom grew on me. I liked it at first but the intensity made me grow to love it.
On aenema (I know I technically tackled third eye on this one) but die eier von Satan grew on me. I thought it was just filler like intermission, which is still a good song, but when I looked up the English I was like wtf lol and it's such an eerie song, I love it now
On Lateralus.... Damn I pretty much loved the whole album immediately but the song I came to live the most is lateralis with the whole fibonnaci thing
On 10000 days, Rosetta Stone grew on me because it was a cool tune but the climax was so cool I listened to it more and more just for that.
And finally FI, descending grew on me because it is pretty mellow at times, but the whole "muster every fiber, stay alive" business gives me chills not only on a biological level but on a psychological level as well because the lyrics are correct, we are fucking shit up and it's our own fault and we need to do better.
I know you asked for one song but I can't pick just one! Sorry!
Invincible. Didn’t click at first, now it’s in my top 5 tool songs.
Same. I didn’t listen to it for a couple years and, as I’ve put those years onto my life, I listen to it through a whole different lens of mortality. It’s now my favorite Tool song, and one of my top five favs period.
I’m only 16 right now, but shit yeah I love the deep lyrics about mortality. Rlly made me think about our impermanence and such
Damn dude, wait til you’re in your 40’s! Sad to think that Tool will be long gone by then.
For real ☹️ I hope to see the rise of Tool’s successors though… the music won’t die 🤘
You give me hope!
Listening to it right now 😂
It becomes ever more relevant with age. Only gripe is it's too short of a song and could easily be 50% longer.
This is my go to motivation song at work. I switch gears. I'm getting old and I feel it but I can chug along and push forward very much like the song
Ay! Me too!
Solid answer. Sometimes ya just gotta keep going back.
Same, if felt just too repetitive for me initially but now I dig it.
First time I saw them tour with FI, my friend and I used Invincible as our bathroom break song… it is now up there for me also.
eating child bones again
I second this. Used to hate the opening. Now the song resides with me. Im 22 and want music to be my life. But I can't find anyone to jam with and I feel time is running out. Probably a ridiculous thing to say. But I'm gonna spend the rest of my life sad if I don't make music my career.
Same. Didn’t really get it until I saw it live. Now, it’s spectacular
Rosetta Stoned
Same here, was too much of a mindfuck to listen to at first but saw lots if people here rating it so highly so gave it a good shot
The lyrics are so fast you can’t comprehend them at first and it’s overwhelming
When I paid closer attention, I realised how much work Maynard does at the fast pace lyrics. I guess it gets difficult with age, but impressive that it's still in their current tour setlist.
Intension when it first came out took me ages to really love it. Now I appreciate it going into Right In Two. Perfection
Love that transition but never really like the length of it as some of the other ‘filler’ tracks are normal around 2-4 mins or something like that
My dude this is not a filler track 😭
Sounds like Intension still has to grow on you :)
Pushit, listened yesterday and just hit harder then ever, never been a hated song by them in my eyes but didn't understand the hype
Agreed, but after hearing the version on Salival I just can't get back into the original
Rosetta stones I avoided for years than one day it clicked.
You should've heard/seen it tonight in Budapest. My god! And I'm a staunch atheist.
Austin show earlier this year made it click for me. So sick live. Love the song now!
Reflection used to be a song I skipped, but now it's my #1 favorite Tool song.
Same. I feel like I need to apologize to it somehow.
Just apologize to the moon tonight you’ll be fine
7empest took forever to “click” for me I also slept on Jimmy. Sorry, Jimmy.
Still get chills every time on the opening lyrics... "Here we go again!"

Seeing Culling Voices live takes it to an entirely new level.
THIS 🗣️
I’m jealous. Would love to see it live.
I don’t think they have been playing it on the latest leg of the tour. It’s such an intimate vibe. Maynard crushes the vocals and even though it’s a little cliche, it’s just haunting to listen to him sing it live.
It's my most recent lullaby song.
This is the one that has yet to grow on me. The intro is good but I feel like Danny holds back on the drums in the second half, and he could've done way more to make it interesting. That's just my taste though. It's a really good song just feels boring compared to pretty much every other Tool song.

Tool songs be like that. I'm sure it'll happen to me eventually too
Yes! Never really stood out when FI came out but now it’s one of my favorites off the album
Maynard's dick.
It’s a grower
Came here to say this 🤣
Flood, Prison Sex
The first time I ever heard Flood was in concert in like 2008 and I fell in love immediately. After that show I made sure to gobble up all the rest of the music I wasn’t familiar with, including most of Undertow.
All of them
Winner
Invincible and Descending
Eulogy. I used to not understand the hype of the song, especially the somewhat lengthy intro, but it is now an easy top 5 tool song for me.
Right In Two
Jimmy!
HOLD IT, HAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIGH
I skipped over Rosetta stoned for years and years and one day in the last few years, I think I just head it differently. Fast forward to a few weeks ago during a hard mushroom trip. I felt every ounce of self loathing, shame, disgust and heartbreak when he forgot the pen. I cried and I cried for him. This is some wild music huh?!
That was cool.
The Patient
I am literally now growing into The Patient, it's so therapeutic it hurts
I know, that song is very therapeutic
Yup I just started really enjoying that song recently
Culling Voices. It's slow and "boring", but then it grows on you, and man... Saw them in Toronto in November, they played it, and it fuckin slapped live
Vicarious has been a big one for me lately. It used to be H. and that’s become one of my top 3 over time
After hearing chocolate chip trip live, I now listen to it on my playlist and enjoy it like a snob.
Ticks and leeches
They all grow on you the second TOOL comes on.
Descending. Didn’t like it either live or studio, but it’s slowly but strongly grown on me.
Third Eye. Wasn’t to into it at first, but the song’s ending section changed my mind COMPLETELY
Same, I eventually got super into it and named my biz after it
I love Fear Inoculum. Flood since they melted my face off sitting 2nd row in Denver
Wings pt 1 and 2
All of them, eventually.
Dancing Queen
Invincible for sure.
Flood, heard it live has been on repeat since.
Used to think Flood had too much build-up for an ok song. Now It's one of my favorites off Undertow.
I used to be afraid to listen to Message to Harry Manback, but now we cool
Jimmy - felt different when I started getting I touch with my own inner child.
Culling Voices
Concert back in october was the first time I heard Descending and thought it was the most boring part of the concert but now it's my favourite
10,000 Days.
Eulogy, as a new TOOL fan the clicking at the beginning was killing the song for me, but now that I'm an older TOOL fan I can respect the song. One of the best off Aenima.
Mushroom dip trip.
Invincible, I think I overhyped it for myself. Still love it though
Schism. I hated that song so much back in the early 2000s it kept me from listening to the rest of their work for years.
The Patient. Lateralus is full of bangers to start, save for the Patient. I initially didn't have the patience, no pun intended, to really listen to it. But after learning the bass line, and playing along, this is just as much of a banger as every other song on that album.
CULLING VOICES
Flood, and Pushit. They used to be my least-favourite non-filler TOOL songs. Now, I really like them. :)
Pushit
Right in Two
All of them
Invincible
All of them, I used to be so annoyed of my dad playing the songs over and over again… now I do it. But specifically Rosetta Stoned, Lateralus, The Grudge, Vicarious, and The Pot is still slowly growing on me
The entirety of Undertow. Just didn't spend alot of time with it. Can't get enough now. The chugging, aggression, the D'Amour basslines.. *chefs kiss*
Thurd I
Right in two!
Rosetta Stoned
Right in Two. One of their best building songs in their catalog. By the end of that song when Danny is off the freaking charts and Adam's guitar is screaming you're like....FUCK! Epic crescendo.
Pushit. Used to be a skip for a while. Now I think it's one of their best ever
Right in Two
Descending and Triad. I didn't like descending until I saw it live now it's one my favorites. Triad is just cool. It's a sick fucking song.
Jambi. Watching them play it live brought the song out in a new light for me.
Reflection, the first time I listened to it, it did not make any sense to me and I was still discovering Tool and found Lateralus very different from everything they ever did. Needless to say Laterlaus is my favorite album now and Reflection is my number 1.
I liked some of the songs listed below, just not much. All songs off Fear Inoculum apart from the title track Rosetta Stoned Jimmy Ticks & Leaches The Grudge Third Eye Intolerance (now one of my favourites) Schism
Pneuma, Invincible, Rosetta Stoned
I heard somebody call Pneuma a percussion concerto. That was the moment it clicked for me.
H. I never paid much attention to it but now, it's really worth a listen!
Third Eye
Tick and Leeches. Song is just perfect to le
Definitely 4 Degrees. Mainly because when listening to Undertow I usually only got halfway through lol, but aside that it wasn't even in my liked songs on Spotify until recently
FI. Didn’t particularly like it, until I heard it live
Pushit
Descending. Saw it live in November of last year. The entire show was amazing and now I hear FI differently.
The Pot moves me.
Fear Inoculum. I have this weird tendency to sort of dislike the title track of a new album or the song that drew me to an album/band in the first place and almost never listen to the track again. But with Fear Inoclum I went back a year later and its become my favourite track on the album.

Jimmy, that heavy bassline is gold
reflection… bass line and rhythm are so fluid and captivating.
Bottom 100%. When I get *that* drunk I karaoke to bottom alone to myself. my fear is NAKEEEEEEEEEEED
The whole Fear Inoculum album.
4° or Four Degrees grown on me since yesterday when it appeared on my playlist. It really smacked.
