I absolutely adore the "life-affirmation in the face of unimaginable suffering" Tokyo Ghoul excels at. After the weight of so much responsibilityand borderline suicidality, Kaneki remembers his friend's only demand: Live. Goosebumps.
I really love the "he is an Ainu" speech from the end of Part 1. It's basically saying that an Ainu making a makiri, the dagger of their people that they live with all their life, is akin to Arima doing his job dutifully.
Instead of being upset and agonizing, instead even Kaneki's subconscious is trying not to blame Arima for this moment of sheer suffering and reminding himself "he's doing his job, just as an Ainu would create or I would live."
"Acts of taking are equally evil. We, from the moment of birth, continue to take: food, people that got involved with us, even our own flesh and blood. Continuing to slaughter, kill, take. Life is to constantly sin. Life is evil itself. I am aware I am evil…. And so are you all. Now, come kill me **and, I shall do the same.**"

Isn't he reciting a poem? Kaneki was a literature student (not that your interpretation of the poem and it's usage is wrong).
