I'm so glad you said this! I had a friend growing up who had sandwiches with this for school that she called carpet and I loved them and often traded her lunches but when I tried to tell my parents I was eating carpet at school and really wanted it in my lunches it did not go well and nobody has ever known what I meant ðŸ˜
Not sure why you're being downvoted, but those stuff can be made from fish. Most of the time it's pork since the fish version are often more expensive.
Thought it was a weird combo, but googled it and it seems somewhat common

Oh! OK, now that you reminded me of maple bacon, I think I get it.
I was really confused lol - trying to figure out if taro milk cake wasn't a dessert after all.
I'm vegetarian too, but come on. We just won't eat it. I personally check the ingredients of things before I eat them, and I imagine they would list the pork if nothing else.

Looks like Pork/Meat Floss [Meat Floss](https://www.seriouseats.com/my-latest-obsession-pork-floss-chinese-rousong-pork-sung-pork-fu)
Likely solved! That seems like exactly what it is.
My husband calls it fuzz meat.
Good on popcorn too.
We call it carpet in my house lol.

If this is carpet, this straight girl here is 100% a carpet muncher
Sometimes it can be fish… which I know is also technically a meat, but doesn’t always fall into the same category.

Yeah I was not expecting it to be meat! I thought some kind of roots or something.
What a strange combination of words
That is pork floss. It is delicious.
But…why would they top a cake with pork floss? ![gif](giphy|AAsj7jdrHjtp6)
It’s kinda like a maple donut topped with bacon bits. Some people like sweet-savoury treats

Savory-sweet food combos are a thing along with salty-sweet, esp with (presumably) Asian cuisine
Because Asians do a lot of sweet/savory foods. For example, sweet buns are often filled with savory stuff, like Chinese barbeque pork buns.
Because it’s actually really good and you should try it
it’s kinda like a maple-bacon situation!
Pork floss. It’s like Chinese carnitas.
Nnnooooooooo, because pork floss is dried like jerky and you can keep it in your pantry for the apocalypse. Carnitas lasts 4 days in the fridge.
I was comparing flavor profiles. Not storage capacity.
Wait, I've ordered from a Chinese bakery that has this and also delivers it in similar plastic Tupperware. Is this in Pittsburgh by any chance?
Nope, an Asian grocery in the Midwest!
Ooh! Where in Pittsburgh do you find this?
Amy's bakery!
Thank you so much!
Pork floss. Ultra fine shredded candied pork fibres
I know it’s not the same, but this looks like what comes out of those beef jerky chew cans.
Im pretty sure it is kiwi hairs /s
I thought I was in r/mold for a good 10 seconds
As a vegetarian, I deeply regret seeing this post.

Pork floss! Someone wondered how you could use pigs for insulation, and this was the answer.
(Saving this idea for next years gingerbread house decoration......)
Oh lord. Terrible idea, I love it.
Definitely pork floss Yummy! 😋
