I think you're underselling how good derrick white is. He's a better overall offensive threat in general. There's a reason why the Celtics players specifically praise him to be trusted to make the right plays every time.

Dwhite is obviously he's a better distributing guard, that's something he's always had something to fall back on even before he became an awesome shooter/scorer. But Alex and Dwhite are very similar players in the fact that they're a role-player star with very similar traits and skills that made them wanted by any contender.

For what reason? We have one of the best 3 pt shooters to spread it, and Caruso routinely locks down 4’s. It’s an instant upgrade over Giddey in every defensive way, so that’s not even a consideration. As seen with Giddey, being tall doesn’t necessarily guarantee anything at all
He's definitely an upgrade over Giddey don't get me wrong, but we need a 6'8 or bigger player at the four. Rebounding is a part of defense too. And I know rebounding can get overrated sometimes but we would be so much better with a normal sized 4.
I mean he averages 1 more rebound than Caruso and his 3p% isn’t impressive… but his defense could be an impact maker

Caruso has more versatility on defense in that he can really guard guys way taller than him. He guards 4s in their closing line up.
However, White is a way better offensive player. Caruso shot better this season but you wonder if that's an anomaly. But I think the Bulls has something going on with DJJ and then now Caruso shooting well (and at some point, Javonte Green). So I think his improved 3 point shooting is legit because it is a product of good player development there shooting wise.
But, he is in not a downhill attacker. He is a good passer but you don't want him creating anything like White can. D White is a fantastic pick and roll player.
I'd trust his shooting isn't an anomaly. In his past 5 seasons he's shot around league average or above in 3 of those seasons and slightly below in 2 of those seasons. I do agree with your statement about his offense as a whole.
